Forty Creek was founded in 1992 when John Hall and Bill Ashburn took over the distillery in Grimsby, Ontario which had been in operation since 1992. Barrel Select, the company’s most awarded whisky, was first sold in Canada in 2000. It is a blend of grain whiskies aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. In 2007, Forty Creek released Copper Bold.

Whiskies made by Forty Creek have won multiple awards, including being named the Whisky Maker of the Decade in 2020 in the Canadian Whisky Awards. You can view all the awards Fory Creek has received for their whiskies and other drinks here.

Although Forty Creek still makes all their drinks in Canada, the company is no longer under Canadian ownership. It was acquired by the Campari Group in 2014. The Campari Group is one of the largest spirit-holding groups in the world.
