Considerations:

The GhostBed Classic Mattress is the first option that GhostBed ever made. This mattress launched a successful brand of sleep accessories and high-quality mattresses – but what makes it so special? The GhostBed was created to be cool and supportive. It uses some of GhostBed’s proprietary blends to create a mattress that feels unique and lives up to the company’s name. If you need a mattress with light cooling, great pressure relief, and firm support, this is the perfect mattress for you.

It may seem like the GhostBed Classic is simple, especially when compared to some of GhostBed’s more complex offerings. However, this mattress offers everything needed to provide a comfortable sleep that has you waking up ready to take on the day. A layer of aerated latex provides proper airflow and responsiveness, while cooling gel foam cradles your deepest pressure points. A slab of motion-isolation support foam keeps you aligned and asleep, even when your partner tosses and turns.

The firmer feel might not be suitable for some sleepers, particularly stomach sleepers. Back and side sleepers (particularly heavy side sleepers) will appreciate the level of support this mattress offers, while still providing great pressure relief from layers of CertiPUR-US-certified foams.

GhostBed Flex Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The GhostBed Flex is a luxury hybrid mattress that uses a layer of micro-coils as well as support foam. This combination of support cores allows for a more comfortable mattress, especially for those who need additional help with balance or alignment to sleep more comfortably. This mattress is one of the most unique options on the Canadian market due to its dual support cores, which create a feeling that you are unlikely to find in other mattresses.

Even with a strong support core, this medium-firm mattress has great pressure relief. Layers of proprietary Ghost Bounce and gel memory foam helps create a softer sleeping surface, making this mattress ideal for side sleepers. It’s responsive and easy to move around on, too. The micro-coils provide great support from the middle of the mattress. Firmer coils around the perimeter of the coil layer bolster the edges of the bed, so you won’t feel like you’re sinking or sliding off when you sit on the edge of the bed.

This mattress will last for years to come, even after nightly use. In addition to the micro-coils, the high-density support layer keeps the mattress from sagging or becoming less comfortable over time. This mattress also features great cooling capabilities, making it a solid option for most Canadians regardless of sleeping preferences.

GhostBed Luxe Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The GhostBed Luxe is one of GhostBed’s most luxurious and complex options. It uses multiple layers of cooling materials to create a sleep surface that completely neutralizes heat. If you’re tired of waking up hot, this mattress can help you sleep through the night. Using phase-changing materials, latex alternative foams, and gel cooling foams creates some of the best temperature control on the Canadian market.

A quilted phase-changing cover helps reduce heat immediately. While this cover is soft and pressure-relieving, it’s also made with phase-changing materials. These fabrics only allow you to reach a certain temperature. Once you generate enough heat, the material begins to wick heat down to the lower layers of the mattress. Here, layers of GhostBed’s proprietary cooling materials help disperse it entirely.

The Luxe is the softest option available in our GhostBed mattress review. This mattress offers a plush top surface immediately followed by proper support and alignment. Because of stomach sleepers’ unique needs, this mattress is perfect for them. Side sleepers will love the way this mattress relieves pressure, too.

Mattress Construction

Each of GhostBed’s mattresses is constructed with comfort and cooling in mind. The materials used in each mattress work together to create a unique feel, which varies from model to model. Here’s how each of the three GhostBed mattresses we’re looking at in this review is constructed.

GhostBed Classic Mattress

GhostBed Classic Mattress Construction
  1. Plush Cover. This cozy cover is made with viscose and polyester. It’s stretchy and breathable, perfect for all of your favourite bed sheets.
  2. 1.5″ Aerated Latex. The top layer of aerated latex is responsive and cool. It adds extra bounce but still contours to your body, providing support and pressure relief where you need it. Tiny holes throughout the surface create better airflow and temperature control.
  3. 2″ Gel Memory Foam. A middle layer of gel-infused memory foam helps cradle your deepest pressure points and disperse any remaining heat.
  4. 7.5″ High-Density Memory Foam. A core of high-density memory foam balances your body, reducing motion transfer and providing proper alignment for most sleepers.

GhostBed Flex Mattress

GhostBed Flex Mattress Construction
  1. Ghost Ice Fabric. Ghost Ice fabric makes the first layer of the Ghost Ice cover. It’s a plush, quilted phase-changing material that begins filtering heat away from your body once it reaches a certain temperature.
  2. 1″ Cooling Fibre. The cooling fibre used to quilt this cover is breathable and cool, expertly reducing heat throughout.
  3. 1″ Gel Memory Foam. The top layer of gel memory foam adds great pressure relief and neutralizes temperature so you sleep more comfortably.
  4. 1″ Ghost Bounce Layer. Ghost Bounce foam helps increase responsiveness, so you’ll get a springier feeling throughout the mattress. It contours to relieve pressure points while making it easier for you to move around.
  5. 1.5″ Gel Memory Foam. A layer of gel memory foam acts like transition foam, isolating motion from the other side of the bed. The gel-infused nature of the foam is the final defence against heat build-up.
  6. 1″ Individually Wrapped Micro-Coils. The Flex is a hybrid mattress containing a layer of foam-encased micro-coils. These smaller coils are great for support, especially at the edges of the bed. If you need stronger support, this layer will provide it.
  7. 7.5″ High-Density Support Layer. Finally, a core of high-density support foam improves durability and reduces sagging over time. This layer holds the mattress together and helps all other layers support you better.

GhostBed Luxe Mattress

GhostBed Luxe Mattress Construction
  1. Ghost Ice Fabric. The first layer of the cover is made with phase-changing Ghost Ice fabric. It’s cool to the touch and wicks away heat and moisture throughout the night.
  2. 1″ Gel Memory Foam. Gel memory foam provides great pressure relief. It isolates heat and moves it away from you, leaving you with the coolest parts of the mattress.
  3. 1/2″ Cooling Fibre. Cooling fibre helps hold the quilted cover together. It helps remove heat, transferring higher temperatures to the coolest sections of the mattress.
  4. Ghost Ice. Ghost Ice is GhostBed’s proprietary cooling foam, which helps pull heat away from you as you sleep. This means you won’t overheat like you might with more traditional foams.
  5. 2″ Gel Memory Foam. This layer of memory foam provides more cooling for the core of the mattress. It also relieves those deepest pressure points, balancing your body without discomfort. It helps isolate motion, too.
  6. 2″ Ghost Bounce Layer. Ghost Bounce foam is a latex blend that cradles your pressure points, but provides better bounce throughout the mattress. This helps reduce the sinking feeling you might get with traditional memory foam and facilitate better ease of movement.
  7. 7.5″ High-Density Base Foam. The high-density foam core helps reduce sagging. It also provides better motion isolation and ensures that your bed stays comfortable for longer.

Firmness

Each GhostBed mattress has a specific, intentional firmness level that works best with the construction of that mattress.

GhostBed Classic Mattress

7.5 on Firmness Scale

GhostBed’s Classic Mattress is the firmest option in our GhostBed Mattress Review. At 7.5, this mattress provides comfort and support for side sleepers and back sleepers. Even heavier side sleepers will find this mattress supportive without adding too much pressure. Stomach sleepers might need a softer mattress.

GhostBed Flex Mattress

6.5 on Firmness Scale

The GhostBed Flex, on the other hand, is about a 6.5 on the firmness scale. It’s still medium-firm but works best for a wider range of Canadians. Side sleepers will appreciate the responsive layers of this mattress, which works to balance and align your body for better sleep overall.

GhostBed Luxe Mattress

The GhostBed Luxe is the softest option in our GhostBed mattress review. A 5.5 on the firmness scale makes this mattress a great option for most Canadians. Side sleepers and stomach sleepers will feel comfortable on this mattress, as it offers plush pressure relief and strong support from the mattress’s core.

Motion Isolation

Tired of waking up when your partner moves around at night? If your partner is often restless, your nights may be sleepless more often than you’d like. Thankfully, all of the GhostBed models on our list are great at isolating motion, preventing it from transferring across the mattress. If you are a light sleeper or keep a different sleeping schedule than your partner, motion isolation is absolutely essential.

When it comes to motion isolation, the GhostBed Flex offers the best chance at isolating motion entirely. This is because it features both a strong motion isolation foam core as well as pocket coil springs. These coils compress individually, so motion won’t transfer to the other coils in the surrounding area. As a result, this double isolation method works wonders for stopping motion transfer.

Both the GhostBed Classic mattress and the GhostBed Luxe mattress isolate motion better than some of the other all-foam mattresses on the Canadian market. The core of these mattresses is made with high-density foams that stop motion as it happens. Plus, multiple foam layers work to prevent motion transfer, absorbing motion throughout the night.

Pressure Relief

GhostBed Luxe Pressure Relief

If you often wake up uncomfortable or have painful pressure points where you touch the mattress, you need a mattress with better pressure relief. Mattresses with pressure-relieving properties use contouring foams to keep your body elevated and balanced, spreading the weight out across the mattress rather than focusing it in a single location. A mattress with better pressure relief will keep you comfortable even if you stay in the same position all night long.

All of the GhostBed mattresses featured here have great pressure relief, but the GhostBed Luxe stands out. This all-foam mattress is softer than the other options here when it comes to firmness. Its layers include gel memory foam, patented GhostBounce (a latex alternative that keeps you elevated out of the support layer), and a top section of Ghost Ice foam. The plush cover also helps reduce pressure immediately, allowing you to sink into the mattress without becoming ‘stuck’ in it.

Though GhostBed Luxe creates the best conditions for great pressure relief, the GhostBed Classic and GhostBed Flex aren’t slacking. GhostBed Classic uses latex and gel foam to reduce pressure, while the GhostBed Flex uses Ghost Bounce foam, Gel Memory foam, and a quilted cover for great pressure relief.

Temperature Control

If you often wake up hot and sweaty, your mattress might be to blame. All of the cooling sheets and cooling pillows on the Canadian market can’t help a mattress that naturally sleeps hot. Unfortunately, most foam mattresses retain heat, making it difficult to get cool if you generate a lot of heat while you sleep. Latex, cooling gel foams, and a variety of different cooling materials can help reduce heat throughout the mattress.

The GhostBed Luxe mattress is sometimes called the ‘coolest bed in the world’. Despite the fact that it’s an all-foam mattress, it uses multiple cooling features to reduce heat build-up, creating a comfortable environment for you to relax. If you often wake up sweating on other mattresses, the GhostBed Luxe might be the perfect solution for you. Between layers of Ghost Bounce, Ghost Ice, and phase-changing cover material, you’ll find a cooler sleep overall.

Just as with the other features on our list, the other mattresses we looked at are also good at reducing temperature. The aerated latex and cooling gel of the GhostBed Classic work to prevent heat build-up. Ghost Bounce and the cooling cover of the GhostBed Flex reduce heat as well, so these options are perfect if you sleep warm.

Edge Support

GhostBed Flex Edge Support

With standard foam mattresses, sitting on the edge of the bed can lead to sinking and sliding. It’s almost impossible to sit on the edge of the bed in the morning without discomfort. While many foam mattresses have found ways to rectify these issues, many still have sinking or sagging at the edge of the bed. GhostBed’s mattresses are a mixed bag when it comes to this issue, too.

The GhostBed Flex is the best option on our list for edge support. That’s because the pocket coil layer features a foam encasement and reinforced edge coils. Firmer coils along the edges of the mattress bolster the edges and prevent deeper sinking, providing support that the foam mattress options don’t quite manage.

Ease of Movement

Standard memory foam mattresses (and those that use memory foam layers) sometimes suffer from a ‘quicksand’ feeling. Because memory foam becomes softer with body heat, you’ll often sink into the mattress and feel stuck there. It becomes difficult to turn over, which can sometimes defeat the purpose of memory foam altogether. Thankfully, all of the options in our GhostBed mattress review use some variation of latex.

Latex cradles your pressure points just like memory foam, but it doesn’t sink as much. This means that you can reduce pressure without feeling stuck in the mattress. Latex is bouncy, too – you’ll be able to move more freely when you sleep on a latex mattress. The use of latex layers throughout these mattress options means they are great for combination sleepers or those who move around a lot at night.

The GhostBed Classic stands out because of the top layer of aerated latex it uses. Rather than having the latex layer in the middle of the mattress (or under some plush top cover), this mattress has the most responsive layer on top. This means it’s probably the best choice for those who want a springier feel and easier movement throughout the night.

Pricing

GhostBed’s mattresses are some of the most luxurious on the Canadian market. As a result, their prices reflect the quality of the materials and construction. You can expect to pay more for these mattresses, but they also last longer and offer unique benefits not found elsewhere. GhostBed mattresses use proprietary materials that you won’t see in other mattresses, which helps create a premium experience but increases the price as well. Here are the prices and dimensions of each size for each mattress in our GhostBed mattress review.

Shipping

All of GhostBed’s mattresses, including the models featured in our GhostBed mattress review, ship free to most locations in North America. The mattresses that ship throughout Canada are shipped from facilities in Canada, though some of them might ship from locations in the northern United States.

When you place your order, your mattress will be shipped quickly from the closest warehouse. Most customers will receive their GhostBed mattress within 5 business days of placing their order, though some will arrive much faster.

Sleep Trial and Returns

All GhostBed Mattresses feature a 101-night risk-free sleep trial. During the first 101 nights of using your GhostBed mattress, you can determine if it works for you. This gives you plenty of time to see if you like the feel and features each option offers, as it usually takes 30 nights to get used to a new mattress.

Because of this 30-night adjustment period, GhostBed asks that you wait at least 30 nights before initiating a return. If you still don’t like the mattress after the initial 30 nights are over, you can initiate a return at no cost to you. You can fill out a form on the GhostBed website to begin the returns process. The customer care team will respond to you within 3 to 4 business days.

After you receive a reply, you’ll need to find a local church or non-profit organization that will accept your mattress donation. GhostBed doesn’t do this for you like most other mattress companies. Instead, you are required to inform them where you’d like to send your mattress. They will pay to ship your mattress to this location for donation.

When your return is confirmed, GhostBed will process your refund. You should get a full refund of your purchase price within 14 business days.

Note that there are a few circumstances that don’t fall under the trial terms. The following circumstances void the sleep trial:

  • Sizing issues
  • Financing issues
  • Errors in your order
  • Cancellations or requests to cancel your order.

GhostBed also reserves the right to deny your return if your mattress is stained, ripped, or damaged outside of normal use. Mattresses that are not in shape to be donated will not be refunded. We recommend using a mattress protector during your sleep trial for this reason.

Warranty

Though all GhostBed mattresses have a guarantee of at least 20 years, the terms of the warranty for each mattress are a bit different. All warranties begin when you receive your mattress and cover defects in manufacturing and materials.

The GhostBed Classic Mattress warranty lasts 20 years. This warranty covers visible indents of greater than 1″ while the mattress is in use with a compatible bed frame (including platform, box springs, and adjustable beds). It also covers physical flaws that cause the foam materials to split, crack, or become damaged during normal use. Unlike the mattress warranty used for the other options on our list, the cover of the GhostBed Classic has a separate 1-year warranty against faults in materials.

The GhostBed Flex and Ghostbed Luxe are covered under a 25-year warranty. This warranty covers body impressions greater than 1″ in depth while the mattress is used with a compatible foundation (including box springs, platform, and adjustable beds). Any physical flaw in the material that causes it to split during normal use is also covered.

All three mattresses use the same set of policies for returns. During the first 10 years of use for all options, GhostBed will repair or replace the mattress at no cost to you. You’ll have to pay for shipping, handling, and transportation costs to have your mattress repaired or replaced.

However, during the 11th year of use, the warranty policy is different. Any repairs during this 11th year of use will be covered except for handling or transportation costs. Replacement costs are prorated. If you need your mattress replaced during the 11th year of use due to warranty issues, you’ll have to pay 50% of the original purchase price. The prorated replacement fee increases after your 11th year of use, but these policies change based on your circumstances.

Your GhostBed mattress warranty is only valid if you register your mattress within 30 days of purchase, can provide original proof of purchase, and have used the mattress on a compatible frame.

Final Thoughts

GhostBed mattresses are top-of-the-line options made with luxurious (and often unique) materials. Whether you need better pressure relief, temperature control, or motion isolation, GhostBed has a model that will suit you. Their range of options covers most sleeping preferences. These mattresses are carefully constructed to bring you the best sleeping experience possible and trying one of them is 100% risk-free. There’s no reason not to invest in better sleep!

Frequently Asked Questions

Most of the GhostBed Mattresses that ship to Canada are made and shipped from GhostBed’s facility in Toronto. However, stock is sometimes shipped from US factories, especially during periods of high demand. Materials from the mattresses are sourced throughout the US.

The GhostBed Flex and GhostBed Luxe have posted weight limits of 750lbs. GhostBed recommends that heavier Canadians purchase larger sizes to help evenly distribute weight across the mattress. The GhostBed Classic does not have a posted weight limit.

All of the mattresses in our GhostBed mattress review are compatible with adjustable beds, platform foundations, and box springs. Make sure to choose a compatible frame that is the same size as your mattress. No matter which foundation you choose, make sure to never keep your mattress on the floor.

Because GhostBed mattresses are carefully constructed to provide support and pressure relief, you shouldn’t flip them. Every 3 to 6 months, you can rotate the mattress 180 degrees to make sure that it doesn’t sag or indent to the shape of your body. Rotating the mattress can improve the longevity of your mattress and help it stay comfortable for longer.

All GhostBed Mattresses feature a 101-night sleep trial. This gives you over three months to determine if the GhostBed mattress works for you. This gives you plenty of time to determine if it works for you, though you should keep it for at least 30 nights before returning it. You can get a full refund of your purchase price if you return the mattress during this period.

The GhostBed Luxe offers the best temperature control in our review today. It uses multiple cooling features to reduce and eliminate heat, so it could be the perfect option if you sleep hot. You’ll find layers of phase-changing materials as well as GhostBed’s proprietary options.
