Magic Lamp is a Vancouver-based Canadian business creating handmade rotating lamps inspired by traditional Japanese Mawari-Doro lanterns. Founded by a husband-and-wife team originally from Japan, the business began making its lamps more than three decades ago and has since produced over 100,000 pieces with the help of a small team.

Unlike motorized rotating lamps, Magic Lamps use heat from the light bulb to create movement. As warm air rises, it causes the colourful inner design to rotate silently without motors or mechanical components. Each lamp is made by hand in Vancouver and is available in a variety of designs, including personalized options featuring a child’s name. While particularly suited to nurseries and children’s bedrooms, the lamps can be used as decorative lighting throughout the home. Magic Lamps have also appeared as set décor in films including Tully and The Art of Racing in the Rain.
