We at Foreshew Design Associates are passionate about architecture and creating special spaces for our clients. Whether that be a secondary vacation home on the lake or a garage to store one’s items, Foreshew Design Associates is here to deliver aesthetically pleasing yet functional structures.
Tell us about yourself?
I have a background in learning Architectural Construction Engineering Technology at Conestoga College. During this time at college, I decided to start what is now known as Foreshew Design Associates. Once I finished college, I moved my company to Golden, British Columbia, to help direct a design department in the heavy timber frame area of construction. During my time there, I was fortunate to meet Tim Stone, one of the co-founders of Kelly & Stone Architects. Tim Stone has been my mentor in architecture and my friend, and I owe much of my success and design awareness to Tim. I moved from Golden, British Columbia, to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to work with KS|a. After spending time in the Midwest, I moved FDA to Muskoka, Ontario, to grow it into what it is today. I have always been passionate about design from a young age. My father was also creative and designed homes as a hobby. My whole family has been in various roles in construction, so I would say I get this talent, honestly.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Trust in your instinct. Only you know what is best for you.
What problem does your business solve?
Everyone wants to live in a comfortable place that is tailored to them and the way they live. Many people do not know how to solve this dilemma, and therefore we step in to guide our clients to a successful project outcome.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
I knew that I had a talent, and I wanted to explore that talent. Design is a combination of opinions and expression, both from myself and my client. I loved the idea of working for a client and combing their desires/needs with my talents.
What is your magic sauce?
We are passionate about being technically accurate while being exquisitely creative. Being extremely diligent about the details, being service forward, and caring are what keep our clients referring us to their friends.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
My plan for the next five years is to continue to build the business with key team members that will push our process and talent to new heights with greater opportunities.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Educating our clients on the requirement of the necessary investment in order to create a truly unique residence. Making sure that potential clients understand our complete service and find value in what we offer has always been difficult. The issue in client un-education is that key projects that we may be excited about become lost opportunities for revenue and work for our team.
