We help travellers by editing their videos into unforgettable memories so they can relive and share their amazing experiences to inspire others to do the same!
Tell us about yourself?
I studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa. I’ve been passionate about adventures and videography ever since I got my hands on a camera. My entrepreneurial career path happened by accident when I invented a rotating selfie stick to take better videos. It caught the attention of my friend, Marc Bjerring, who was reading a Steve Jobs book at the time, and my other friend, Patrick Lalonde, who eventually became our angel investor. Together, we successfully launched the Spivo Stick into the world. You might have even seen it on Dragon’s Den.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Don’t give up on the new idea, and do more market research!
What problem does your business solve?
We help travellers turn their photos and videos into unforgettable videos that they can share and cherish forever.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
At first, our business was focused on creating innovative camera gear to help travellers better capture their adventures. What we discovered over the past eight years was that the main problem wasn’t capturing the content. It was turning that content into video edits. So we decided to pivot our business into a full video editing service for travellers.
What is your magic sauce?
Our magic sauce in creating the perfect travel videos lies in our vast experience in making our own travel videos, designing and selling camera gear – giving us an intimate knowledge of cameras – our amazing customer service experience from being in e-commerce for eight years, and continuously improving our Video Recipe as we deliver tens of thousands of minutes worth of edited videos every year.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
In the next five years, we want Spivo Video to grow 10 times and to be the gold standard for creating travel videos for consumers all over the world.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Competing in the digital marketing environment has always been the biggest challenge and the main force slowing our rapid growth.
How can people get involved?
I’m betting that if you’re reading this, you have hundreds of photos and videos that could be turned into an unforgettable video. Get a video made at spivo.com or email us at video@spivo.com if you have any questions.
