Barry Gordon

We are an integrated real estate and transition company. We take on the entire challenge of selling your home while managing every detail of your personal property to whatever degree you wish—improving lives and the planet in downsizing and estate settlement by bundling services to reduce stress, complexity, risk, and waste.

Tell us about yourself?

I am the second generation in a 60-year-old company that I have been in my entire life. I originally started in it to help my father, but along with my wife, I have evolved the business over the years to make it a unique, niche market leader.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

I really don’t know other than if we understood the economic impact of a pandemic, there were a lot of opportunities to manage life events better. So many things changed throughout the past few years that affected economics and health that many of us find ourselves in a different place than we would have seen coming.

What problem does your business solve?

Gordon's Downsizing and Estate Services

We provide better options for people downsizing and settling estates. By offering a bundled approach across a wide range of services anchored by the real estate sale, vulnerable people in high-stress situations can get a predictable, seamless, lower-stress path through a difficult time.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We have always served people downsizing from the sale of assets perspective. Our business was inspired to shift toward an integrated services model when we saw the devastating health and stress effects on people and their families trying to project manage events piecemeal at an overwhelming time in their life.

What is your magic sauce?

By integrating services and delivering from a corporate level rather than an individual real estate agent level, we are able to provide unlimited free project management to our niche real estate clients and fund all activities (pack, move, unpack, clean, sort, ship, sell contents) until the closing of their house sale. Being process rather than personality-driven allows for a very robust experience without the most common conflicts of interest in real estate.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

To make our service ubiquitous so everyone will know about this option before they commit to piecemeal options, which continue to force them into being their own project manager.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Breaking through the noise of marketing messages. We live in a world where there have never been more choices, yet people make fewer decisions due to drowning in information and messages. The challenge is to be seen for those who are in need when or before they need it.

How can people get involved?

People downsizing or settling estates with real estate, who don’t have family or support close by, who also have contents to be managed and sold, we can help. Those who may be busy or older and unable, or simply don’t want to project manage their event and don’t have or don’t want to free up liquid resources to fund activities until their house can close safely, we help them too. Downsizers, lay and corporate executors, and families of both are our target clients. 800-267-2206, www.gogordons.com, or look for the book “Avoiding Chaos” by Barry Gordon.
