Highlander Brewery was founded by brewmaster Brian Wilson in 2009 in South River, Ontario. The first beer developed by Brian was a traditional Scottish Ale which has since become one of the best-loved beers made by the brewery. It is designed to be more mellow than typical English pale ale and slightly sweet.
Highlander Brewery was bought by United Craft, which is led by mother and son Pat and Ian Macdonald in 2019. As a result of Pat and Ian’s marketing efforts, over 250 new LCBO and grocery stores began stocking Highlander beers. In 2020, the production moved to New Ontario Brewing but the brewing of Highlander beers continues to be overseen by Brian.
