Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-Lac is a monastery located in Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, Quebec, overlooking Lake Memphremagog. It was established in 1912 by Benedictine monks from France. Today, the abbey is home to a community of around thirty monks who live according to the Rule of St. Benedict and dedicate their lives to prayer, work, and communal living.
In addition to their spiritual commitments, the monks participate in various artisanal activities, most notably cheese-making since 1943. Their cheeses, which include the award-winning Bleu Bénédictin, are made using traditional methods. The abbey also produces ciders and other products made with apples from their orchards.
Visitors are welcome all year round to explore the abbey’s history, and its exceptional architecture. Visitors can also participate in guided tours and retreats, as well as liturgical services.
