Tell us about yourself?

Colin is a South African native and serial entrepreneur with over three decades of experience building multiple multi-million-dollar businesses globally in many industries and economies. Colin founded Make Your Mark Training and Consulting in 2004 with a passion to assist businesses to realize their full revenue and profit potential and do it with heart, making a positive impression on those their business impacts: staff, colleagues, vendors, families, customers, and the community. He is an absolute business genius and can assist you out of any challenge – his creativity is something to experience and witness!

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Always find mentors who have done what you want to do so that you can push your comfort zone, learn from their experiences, and have limited stress and financial challenges.

What problem does your business solve?

We mentor business owners to help them get from point A to point B with limited financial losses. We are business owners who have already been in the trenches and can bring extreme amounts of learning and experience to the table.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

There are many great products and services out in the world that can make a huge impact on our societies and planet. Many of them never make it to market because of funding and/or poor business knowledge. My goal is to help the inventor and passionate person become more business oriented and educated to take what they have to market and make an impact.

What is your magic sauce?

We have decades of knowledge and learnings as business owners. We have bought, sold, scaled and grown businesses in a wide variety of industries – both products and services.

We know what it takes to get to the next level. A huge part of the work we do is on mindset. When you get the business owner’s head in the game, it’s a game-changer for them.

What is the plan for the next 5 years?

To continue to mentor, grow and scale businesses to multiple eight or nine-figures and beyond. To grow my own portfolio of businesses to beyond $500 million in equity, have multiple eight or 9-figure exits, and help other business owners do the same. I also want to support and guide those with state-of-the-art technology or proprietary knowledge to take their product or service to market and make a huge positive impact on our planet.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

The biggest challenge is a single word… TRUST. When you learn to trust others and empower them through effective leadership, that’s when things completely change. You can only grow a successful business with top-class employees, and when you find them, trust them, and empower them, this is when your business grows and scales hugely.

The biggest external challenge would have been COVID-19. We have +420 events planned in 2020, and they were all terminated on March 13, 2020, when the world went into lockdown. We went from a multiple seven-figure business to pretty much zero overnight. This made us rethink where things were at and how we were going to move the company forward. It was the best thing that ever happened to us. I am COVID-19 grateful. We have a business now that is in line with my vision of being able to work from anywhere in the world. We have partnered with numerous companies and are watching them scale and grow. All guidance can be done remotely.
