Tell us about yourself?
I am a business professional. I’ve built and led businesses for well over two decades. My primary areas of specialization are Human Resources and Sales/Marketing development. Over the course of my career, I have been a keynote speaker at events and performed training with hundreds of individuals. Having a substantial grasp of both business and HR legal considerations, I have performed consulting with a number of large Canadian organizations in efforts to retool their HR business units.
I am the CEO of Partner Staffing, a Western Canadian HR consultancy head-officed in Calgary.
On the side, I work extensively with charitable organizations, particularly Scouts Canada. I am active in the fitness community and am certified in fitness and nutrition. I also host the Bold Strong Podcast.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
I would advise myself to “hire slowly, fire quickly”.
What problem does your business solve?
What sets Partner apart is quality of access and delivery. We provide access to individuals that companies don’t have access to. Every staffing company has access, but we are committed to digging deeper, always.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
I like being able to help others be successful. I think this was always at the core of what I have accomplished so far. It’s a big motivator for me.
What is your magic sauce?
The magic sauce is finding the right people who are driven to make things happen. The focus should be on having great employees strengthen great client relationships.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
The plan is to open a physical location in Vancouver and then one in Edmonton. The focus is to grow the business and provide top-notch service.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
I think it is building the right team. As David Cottrell once said, “The most important thing you do as a leader is hire the right people.”
I am an advocate of asking my internal team applicants this important question during the pre-screen. ‘Do you have an exit strategy if this doesn’t work out?’ If they have one, it’s probably not going to work out.
