Darryl Hillock

Our mission is to unlock the potential of human ingenuity – by giving creatives an open and fair trade of their art and billions of inspired people the opportunity to enjoy and contribute to it.

Tell us about yourself?

Darryl Hillock graduated from Harris Institute for the Arts in 2003 right before the Napster boom. Darryl was lucky enough to work with the great Nick Blagona producing records until he opened and managed Bluewater Studios, a large format recording studio located in Downtown Toronto in 2004.

Darryl worked with many musicians, from world-class acts to local musicians.

In 2008 Darryl purchased Arcadia Academy of Music in Newmarket where he employed over 40 full/part-time professional musicians and provided lessons to over 400 families weekly, he mentored and taught many graduates of post-secondary music degrees, while s producing music for artists.

In 2017 Darryl Co-founded HWY 11 Entertainment. A management service and boutique record label.

In 2019, Darryl sold his Arcadia franchise to embark on a new musical journey. To try and bring blockchain to mass adoption through fair trade ideology and smart contracts, to allow musicians full control over
their creative work and profit directly from their work for the first time, ever.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Have faith in your purpose, even in uncertain times continue to pray and stay focused on your mission. There will be ups and downs but continue to trust on the creator and the rest will sort itself out.

What problem does your business solve?

Beatify is a music ecosystem which includes: A content streaming service utilizing blockchain technology, an NFT marketplace, and a Metaverse. BEATiFY lets fans contribute to the careers of their favourite musicians in a direct and real way. It streamlines the process of royalty and song payments, protects intellectual property, and pays the musician in real-time! It offers users a unique way to experience their favourite Musicians/Creators and gives the Musicians/Creators complete control of their own musical wallet.

Metadata ensures proper and simple payable/receivables in the form of a smart contract and can give greater revenue to artists.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We are built by musicians, for musicians. For too long creative culture has been at the whim of publishers, PRO’s and labels, now they can take their destiny into their own hands to have greater benefit from their intellectual property through the BEATiFY ecosystem. We’re inspired by creative culture and technology.

What is your magic sauce?

We are the musician’s choice for leading-edge web3 content solution. Our competitive advantage is that our ecosystem is tailored to musicians. It’s easy, fun, engaging and puts the music first. Tap into our community for educational resources on music, touring, web3, basically anything you need to be a successful musician.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

In the next 18 months, we are releasing version 2 of our hugely successful blockchain music streaming platform, integrated with a new NFT marketplace and the beginning of our own metaverse, complete with gamification. Compliance is also a top priority. Our 36-60 month goal is to move beyond blockchain, into some R&D which we can divulge yet.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Each day presents its own challenges, but our team is up to the task. Challenges such as funding, liquidity, adoption, market forces, maintenance, etc- arise every day. But the joy is waking up to meet the challenge and finding new and innovative ways to continue to help creatives and encourage musicians to keep sharing their voices.
