David Patchell-Evans first had the idea for GoodLife Fitness in 1974 when he discovered a passion for fitness during his rehabilitation following a motorcycle accident. The idea took seed and the first GoodLife Fitness club opened in 1979 in London, Ontario.

Today, there are over 450 GoodLife Fitness clubs in total across Canada and over 1.5 million Canadians have a GoodLife membership. The company is made up of four brands: GoodLife Fitness with 200 clubs and 898,000 members, EconoFitness with 70 clubs and 265,000 members, Fit4Less with 96 clubs and 410,000 members, and Oxygen Yoga % Fitness with 60 locations and 250,000 members.
