This experience exposed me to the significant impact that materials, chemicals, and design in mattresses could have on health and wellness, particularly for those with heightened sensitivities due to illness.
Motivated by a desire to create a healthier, toxin-free sleeping environment, I embarked on a mission to innovate within the mattress industry. This led to the development of Essentia’s Beyond Latex foam, a unique product that combined the supportive qualities of traditional memory foam with the health and environmental benefits of natural latex without the harmful chemicals.

My journey into the mattress industry was quite personal and began with a deep desire to help people who were battling cancer. I witnessed firsthand how their severe illnesses made them extremely sensitive to their environment, particularly to the chemicals and materials in their sleep environments. This sensitivity wasn’t just discomfort; it led to real health setbacks, including reactions to traditional memory foam mattresses that resulted in hives and respiratory issues.
Determined to find a solution, I embarked on a mission to create a healthier sleep environment. My goal wasn’t just about creating an organic product; it was about addressing the deeper needs of people who required a supportive, toxin-free sleep environment due to their health conditions. This drive led me to develop a new kind of memory foam, one that maintained the comfort and support of traditional memory foam but without the harmful chemicals. This material would be based on the organic qualities of latex but engineered to provide the slow response feature typical of memory foam, offering a unique blend of comfort, support, and health consciousness.
As I delved deeper into the science of sleep and materials, my efforts expanded beyond just creating a better mattress.
