Tell us about yourself?

My professional background is deeply rooted in customer service. Before the launch of LG Home Comfort, I was a multi-unit general manager for a popular quick-service restaurant chain, overseeing the operations of four to seven restaurants.

The inception of LG Home Comfort stemmed from a temporary gig my husband, and co-founder of L.G., took during a gap in his employment while I was on maternity leave. Over the course of that year, we both fell in love with the industry and saw space for us to enter and disrupt the market in a big way.

Over the years, our business strategy has evolved to where it is now: an opportunity to shift the industry focus from renting to owning HVAC systems to provide greater control and financial benefits to homeowners.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

For a long time, our business model relied heavily on others to be successful. I always knew the risks associated with handshake agreements and working with the ‘big fish’- I would tell myself to have confidence in the vision and take the leap. Having complete control over the direction that your company is taking means so much more than what appears to be stable at the current time but relies on the whims of others.

What problem does your business solve?

LG Home Comfort addresses the common issue of homeowners being locked into high-cost rental agreements for their HVAC systems.

We offer solutions that allow them to own their systems outright, reducing long-term costs and providing them with greater control over their home’s comfort and efficiency.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

The inspiration behind LG Home Comfort came from witnessing the frustration of homeowners trapped in costly rental agreements. Driven by the desire to take a stance against the HVAC rental market, educate homeowners about the risks associated with renting HVAC equipment and water heaters, and offer more consumer-friendly options than what the big players provided, my husband and I decided to start our own company to revolutionize the industry.

Our goal is to educate these individuals by offering them a better alternative—ownership. This not only enhances their home comfort but also provides financial peace of mind.

What is your magic sauce?

Our “magic sauce” is a combination of personalized service, transparent pricing, and a commitment to quality. Not only do we empower homeowners to manage their HVAC systems, but we also assist in clarifying and easing the transition from previous HVAC providers. We provide comprehensive support and education, helping those needing to exit contracts by navigating the fine print, ensuring a seamless transition.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

Over the next five years, we aim to expand our reach across Canada, helping more families transition from renting to owning their HVAC systems. Our vision includes continuously improving our services and introducing innovative, energy-efficient solutions to enhance home comfort and sustainability.

In response to the implementation of Notice of Security Interest laws aimed at safeguarding homeowners, we penned an open letter to the government advocating for further reforms and interventions to protect consumers from large HVAC and rental scams or contracts. We envision these changes as pivotal steps forward and hope to spearhead the provision of alternatives for consumers who have been consistently exploited.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced is changing the mindset of homeowners who are accustomed to renting their HVAC systems. It requires education and trust-building to demonstrate the long-term benefits of ownership. Despite this, we remain committed to our mission and continue to see positive shifts in consumer perception.
