Injoy helps people with gut health issues achieve a deeper understanding of their health and improve their gut over time.
We believe everyone deserves access to intestinal health support from the comfort of their homes and that people should never have to wonder, “is this normal” when it comes to their intestinal health.
Tell us about yourself?
At a young age, I was diagnosed with cancer which started me on my path toward the health field. From there, I started volunteering on ambulances and at hospitals; I went to University to study Pharmacology at McGill (Montreal), worked as a researcher in an academic lab, and eventually became a health technology entrepreneur.
I also have friends and family with inflammatory bowel disease, and I was brought up in a house where gut health was always a topic of conversation.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Community is everything. Answering questions on social media, meeting with patients, and sharing your progress publicly are all great ways to show people the person you are and build trust, especially in the gut health community where there is so much misinformation.
What problem does your business solve?
It might be hard to believe, but there are over 90 million people across the U.S. and Canada who are experiencing gut health issues. On top of this, there are no at-home tools for these people to understand their health over time and what to do about it outside of the symptoms they are experiencing or going to the hospital.
Imagine being someone with a chronic condition such as diabetes and not having the means to understand their blood glucose levels. They would not be able to make informed health decisions or address issues before they become severe. This is the current state of life for people with chronic intestinal health issues.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
Injoy was inspired by the five-plus years our team has been focused on improving people’s experiences with intestinal health. Whether this is as researchers in academic labs, doctors treating patients in clinics, or patients experiencing many of the issues we intend to solve.
We are building a company for ourselves and others who share our frustrations with the current standard of intestinal health care.
What is your magic sauce?
Injoy helps people recognize and address day-to-day changes in their gut health so they can keep their health in check.
We have developed the first bathroom sensor to help people consistently track changes in their gut health and turn the time they spend in the bathroom into a positive moment of healing and understanding.
Our bathroom sensor works seamlessly with our gut health app allowing our AI to help people discover their unique gut profile, identify their triggers, and receive personalized dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
We also offer comprehensive microbiome testing, which allows our user’s to understand how their microbiome is changing over time in response to their diet, lifestyle, and symptoms. Uniquely, we ask every user to collect three samples every three months so we can provide a highly accurate analysis through 19 powerful biomarkers.
Most importantly, validation and transparency are extremely important to us, which is why we have published proof of our technology in peer-reviewed scientific journals and have
patented our AI, allowing us to be confident when we say Injoy is the world’s first intelligent gut health companion.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
The gut health field as a whole has a lot of room for improvement. There is still plenty of stigma, misinformation, and research that needs to be done for us to move toward a future where intestinal health issues are receiving the support they deserve.
For Injoy, success would mean creating a future where sitting on the toilet is more valuable than going to the clinic.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
One of the biggest challenges that Injoy and wellness companies in general face is achieving consistent engagement.
Users may stop using a wellness app for many reasons, such as notification fatigue, momentary distractions, or dropping off when they reach their wellness goals, but this just doesn’t work for chronic health conditions. The only way to prevent uncomfortable symptoms or worse is through consistent tracking, whether you’re feeling well or unwell.
It was this realization that directly contributed to the development of our Injoy Beacon. With this technology, we make gut health tracking a simple part of your daily bathroom ritual, reminding you to check in and monitoring your bathroom habits, so you don’t have to.
