Tell us about yourself?

I have always been into healthy living, and when I discovered the power of the internet, I immediately wanted to create a business that combined the two. Having previously shopped at an online health store many years ago, I found the experience awful. They forgot items from my order, shipped me the wrong goods, and took three weeks to get them to me. I knew I could do better, so, with no background in websites or eCommerce, I took my life savings and launched what is now called Vitamart.ca.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Know your numbers. It can be enticing to focus on top-line numbers, such as revenue or how many units you are selling, but what really matters are the numbers that are driving profitability, such as margins and operational costs.

What problem does your business solve?

We make getting healthy simple. We offer quality vitamins you trust at amazing prices with exceptional customer service. Shopping at Vitamart.ca is the easiest way to get healthy with vitamins.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

Getting and taking vitamins shouldn’t be complicated. It should be easy to pick the right one, value-priced, and delivered in a timely manner. It seems simple, but it’s not. There are so many vitamins out there, and Vitamart.ca selects the right products to help you cut through the clutter and get your health on track.

What is your magic sauce?

We have the best private-label brand of vitamins in Canada called, BluChek. We hand-pick every formula, have the ingredients tested, and ensure the price is better than anything else of equivalent quality. While we sell many of the top third-party brands in Canada, you can’t get BluChek vitamins anywhere but Vitamart.ca.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

Continued growth. Getting healthy doesn’t need to be expensive, and we are on a mission to save everyone money by providing them with the best value in the vitamin industry. We plan to continue to expand our offering and drive down our prices while continuing to make healthy simple.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

We were completely unprepared for what COVID-19 brought. While we had lots of new customers, we struggled at being able to get enough of the right products in stock and predicting what products would continue to sell when the initial wave of demand was done.
