MARDA is a full-service property management company overseeing thousands of rental units in Southwestern Ontario. As a company that has grown from 34 units under management as a side job for me personally, it has become a business with nearly 50 employees and thousands of units to manage. We take care of everything from collecting rent, finding tenants, signing leases, and dealing with maintenance issues that arise. We are the largest privately owned property management company in our region, and with core values that include frictionless customer experience, growth, culture, and speed, we find ourselves fiercely protecting the assets of our clients.
Tell us about yourself?
I am a serial entrepreneur, having opened businesses including two property management companies, one rental management, one condo management, a bookkeeping business, and a warehousing business, all of which are actively growing companies today. I started in property management as a side job which quickly moved into a career that allowed me to be my own boss and contribute to our local economy in ways I could never have imagined!
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Being a CEO is hard, and giving yourself the personal time and attention you need in your life will allow you to excel that much more in business.
What problem does your business solve?
Management of rental property allows investors to strictly invest and not have to also do a job as part of that investment.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
The desire to be a community contributor while working to employ many people from the Windsor area and allowing property owners to invest and contribute to the Windsor economy helped inspire our business.
What is your magic sauce?
MARDA Management has a deep bench with many team members, extensive industry knowledge, and a robust understanding of rental property ownership as we are not only managers, we also own multifamily property in our area. This has allowed a perspective that exceeds what a traditional manager can offer and allows us to compete vigorously in the Windsor real estate and rental management industry.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
We are excited to grow and bring our company to other municipalities throughout Ontario. It is our intention to continue to perfect being best in class and empower our team to grow and evolve through efficiencies and opportunities to expand their own knowledge, skills, and investments.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
A lack of awareness of what is possible has been the single biggest delay in our growth over the course of the last 13 years. Our willingness to be uncomfortable and work in areas that are unfamiliar has granted us opportunities beyond what we thought was possible.
