At Kilne, we want you to revel in the process of making a home-cooked meal, whether that’s for yourself, your roommates, partner, kids, or guests coming for a visit. We understand how therapeutic, rewarding, and important it is to cook a delicious and nutritious meal at home with and for your loved ones. The tools you cook with should be just as thought-out as the ingredients you put into your culinary creations; that’s why Kilne products are created with quality in mind, designed for home cooks of all levels, and support healthy cooking—all while looking beautiful in your kitchen.

We’re proudly Canadian and design all our products on home soil. We work directly with the best manufacturers and suppliers who are experts at their craft to bring our visions to life.

Tell us about yourself?

I got into retail after graduation from MBA school and really enjoyed it. I love cooking and the kitchen because the quality of ingredients, as well as tools, makes a big difference for people. Creating products sustainably as well is a big thing for us.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Focus on your customers, and the business will follow suit

What problem does your business solve?

Kilne products are created with quality in mind, designed for home cooks of all levels, and support healthy cooking—all while looking beautiful in your kitchen. Our products are designed to be multi-functional, space-saving, and ultimately will require you to buy fewer ‘things’ for your kitchen, leaving money in your pocket. Our Everything Pan is designed to replace nine pieces of cookware, our knife sets are perfect for any slicing task, and even our accessories, like the Tawashi Brush, can be used for multiple purposes, from getting off stubborn stains to scrubbing a potato.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We were originally shopping for a set of knives and realized there were so many options, and it was hard to figure out which set to buy from which store. Our goal has been to highlight quality over quantity and keep money in our customers’ wallets through fewer items in the kitchen but better items.

What is your magic sauce?

Our pan is made in Italy, and our knives feature German steel. We strive to get the most functionality out of each piece so that we cut down on kitchen clutter. Our products perform better and last longer than all our tests versus competitors.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

We want to build out three main kitchen sub categories. The stovetop, the tabletop, and kitchen accessories.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

We saw a lot of initial success with our kitchen knives but ran into some supply chain issues as we launched into new product categories through COVID-19. We were able to secure supply to help meet demand in Canada for our products.
