Simplicity Car Care is one of Canada’s fastest-growing automotive franchise networks. Our vision is to make car care simple and affordable for every vehicle owner in the world. Simplicity Car Care is determined to have a positive and profound impact on its stakeholders
by providing the following value propositions:

  1. Increasing top-line sales to provide an enhanced contribution to the facility’s investment and infrastructure.
  2. Delivering unparalleled operational support and processes, allowing for reduced stress and decreased production costs.
  3. Leveraging our Multi-Store Operation (MSO) intelligence to guide as well as support our partners through any operational challenges that may arise within their business unit.

As passionate as we are about creating a better quality of life for our franchise partners, we are equally passionate about providing a best-in-class experience for our customers.

Tell us about yourself?

I began in the collision repair industry back in 2004. I was graduating from University and applying for law school. The law school application would require a year, so I figured I would work the year at the family business, which was one of two collision repair centres.
Within the first six months, I recognized significant headwinds that would put our small family business at risk. The most prevalent risks I identified were consolidation, streamlined operations, and a strategic focus on sales and marketing. With this being said, in the next six months, I was selected to attend the law school I desired, but I declined as I felt I needed to help the family business. I felt I had the skills the family business needed, and I couldn’t simply turn my back on them. I guess you can see my passion for the industry stems from my passion for family.

In 2010, I assembled a committee that would help us restructure the organization to focus on operational excellence and strategic Sales and Marketing. By 2010, the family business (Prochilo Brothers Auto Collision) earned 20 per cent growth YoY for three years straight. At this point, we knew we had a best-in-class operating model, but we couldn’t scale it fast enough through acquisitions. So myself and my co-founding partners decided to rebrand the business and undertake franchising under the new brand Simplicity Car Care.

In just six years, we’ve developed 87 locations servicing six markets across Canada. We process vehicles 40 per cent faster than the industry, and we are poised to hit our growth target this year of 110 locations as well as launch the brand in the U.S.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Problems are a treasure. Always remember, the price you pay for any problem that comes up is an investment in the future of the company. Pay today, fix the problem and ensure to reap the perpetual return for the solution you developed.

What problem does your business solve?

Simplicity Car Care

We improve sales and profitability in all independent collision repair operations while providing the operator with a better quality of life.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We wanted to create a high-impact organization that would really disrupt the status quo. We knew we had the right formula. We just needed the right catalyst. Franchising was that catalyst. The ability to help hard-working independent operators improve their business and, ultimately, their quality of life will demonstrate not just our leadership in the industry, but it will leave a legacy.

What is your magic sauce?

Simplicity Car Care

First is the experience of our leadership team. We have all run highly effective collision centers, so we know exactly what it takes and understand the pain points our franchisees are dealing with. However, our largest differentiator is our operating model and the fact that the leadership team continues to innovate in different ways to further enable our core strengths of providing an elevated client experience and reducing repair costs for our customers between three to six per cent through greater efficiency and effectiveness.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

In the next five years, we have a trajectory for significant growth. Our strategic planning suggests we’ll have approximately 250 locations in Canada, along with approximately 70 locations in the U.S. We will also be exploring international partnerships to grow our brand in Europe and the Asia Pacific through Master Licensing Partnerships.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

I would say one of the biggest challenges we’ve faced is two-fold:

  1. Identifying different opportunities to assist franchisees through the change management in our conversion process. I can’t say this has been a direct challenge, but change management is always important and people’s capacity to change varies highly.
  2. The labour shortage in collision repair.
