Tell us about yourself?
I am of Belgium origin, born and raised in France. After I graduated university in Belgium with a degree in Engineering, I worked for 20 years in the professional audio-visual industry when I realized there was an important gap in the industry that I believed I could fill. And so, in 2009, eight years after I moved to Canada, I founded VuWall out of my own home. I had a vision that video wall management in control rooms could be simplified by developing easy-to-use software that could run on commercial-off-the-shelf products. I built a team, and together, we did just that. Today, the company has grown to be recognized as one of the premier video wall control systems and AV network management solution providers on the market. We are headquartered in Montreal and have offices in Germany and the U.S., with more than 3,000 systems deployed in over 45 countries on all continents. Outside the office, I enjoy kitesurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and running with my dogs.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Be clear about your objectives and focus on them but be ready to change your execution plan and adjust the path to reach your goals.
What problem does your business solve?
We make it easy for operators in control rooms and emergency centers to make quick and informed decisions.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
The inspiration behind VuWall is that with today’s technology, there are ways to simplify the deployment and operation of video walls in command and control rooms WITHOUT compromising on performance and capabilities.
What is your magic sauce?
Beyond the simplicity and ease of use of our products, we work hard on keeping all our processes as simple as possible. Our user experience design (UX) applies to the whole customer journey, from the moment they call us for information until the day they have successfully deployed our system.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Our focus is to continue improving the user experience by simplifying their workflows and always staying ahead of the curve, bringing them the latest and most innovative technology. I would like the company to increase its market share in the U.S., western Canada, and northern Europe. Our vision? For our centralized management software to become the de facto technology used in control rooms everywhere to manage all of their audio-visual devices.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Our biggest challenges lately have been the volatile situation of electronic components availability and the increased cost of logistics. In the last couple of years, we have diversified our sourcing of components and tried to source more locally when possible.
