Indigo has a long history in Canada having been founded as Coles Store by brothers Carl and Jack Cole in Toronto, Ontario in 1940. The store proved popular and during the 1940s they expanded across Canada including the opening of the biggest bookstore in the world in downtown Toronto.
Over the years, Indigo has changed names and hands several times. Today, it is a publicly traded company with around 200 stores across Canada as well as an online store.
