We are a residential painting company that started in Nanaimo, BC back in 2011. Through years of hard work, friendship, and a common goal, we have been able to grow our team to better serve the Island, and as of 2021, we have begun operating and serving The Greater Victoria area.

Tell us about yourself?
It’s a long story, but I will do my best to keep it short. My father did some painting and handyman work for a bit and would get me and my brother involved sometimes. Later on, when I started attending university for my BBA, I would do property management and maintenance for a private company. Later on, I did some work for a couple of smaller painting outfits, where I learned more in-depth about the craft.
One summer, a friend of mine was getting out of the industry and moving out of town. He sold me his equipment and helped me form some of the core concepts of starting the business. From there, once the company started to take off, I didn’t return to university, and the rest is history!
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
I would suggest we invest more into our processes and remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
What problem does your business solve?
We help people decorate their homes or businesses and guide them to make the right decisions to create a space they can be proud of for a long time to come.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
When I was working for other service-based industries, I saw the standard that was being set. The bar was low in my eyes, and I thought I could provide a more professional approach to a service trade. We want to ensure people feel comfortable and trust those they are bringing into their homes or businesses. So if someone has a sensitive situation, an empty house or a grandparent that needs work done, we want to be the go-to solution they can trust to do a great job and walk them through the whole process.
What is your magic sauce?

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
The vision for Pride Painting is to continue servicing our clients with the same great experience they have come to expect. We want to attract the right clients and the right people to work with us, becoming the destination employer for those that have an interest in working in the trades and progressing their skills and careers. Our aim is to make it so that when our clients and community think of painting, they immediately think they better call Pride.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
Expanding our service locations has certainly introduced some challenges. It initially started with personal intentions to relocate, but seeing as there was room in the market for another painting company, it only made sense to expand the service area from Nanaimo to include Victoria as well.
Logistics and learning a new market can always be challenging, but for the first six months it felt like we started from ground zero. New staff, new clients, and no brand recognition. It took awhile to get our feet underneath us but we’re off to the races now.
