Tell us about yourself?
I came from 20-plus years in the advertising industry, working for agencies like DDB and Cossette. I was always in client service.
I started podcasting as a hobby. I used my hobby podcasts as an excuse to meet and interview fascinating people. Over time, I saw podcasts grow and brands start to take notice. But the brands starting their own podcasts were not doing it well and struggling with direction. I saw this as an opportunity to be a leader in the field and apply the principles I learned in client service. That’s how JAR Audio was born.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
While my co-founders and I took a lot of chances in the beginning, I wish I had started the agency even earlier. We’ve taken an iterative approach to everything that we do, and none of our success would have happened if we didn’t just start and taken chances along the way, but we could have started even earlier than we did.
My advice to myself would have been to listen to your worries but still have trust in yourself and your abilities. Just start.
What problem does your business solve?
Companies are struggling to build an audience. And once they have that audience, they struggle to keep their attention. Our expertly crafted podcasts solve this problem. Not only are podcasts one of the best entertainment tools for engagement, but their audiences continually prove to be loyal.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
We were inspired by some of the world’s most successful creative agencies. We’ve built JAR Audio with a blend of world-class podcast creativity, smart strategy, and precise production, and wrapped with the industry’s top client experience.
Podcasts have been around for 15 years, but its only been within the past five years that brands have taken notice. There is a lot of hand-holding required by clients, a lot of education, and their marketing dollars need to perform. JAR Audio’s service solves this for clients.
What is your magic sauce?
Not only do we create entertaining, engaging, high-performing podcasts for our clients, but we differ from our competitors by offering the best in industry client service.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
JAR Audio plans to continue to grow. Right now, we are incredibly active in North America but have plans to expand further into North America and Asia through some strategic partnerships. We are also evolving our service offering, including in-podcast advertising production, audio white papers, expanded video offering, and audio brand integration.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
The biggest challenge has been finding the right mix of talent. With podcasting being relatively new, it can sometimes be a challenge to find talent with enough relevant experience, specifically with podcasts.
