WaterShed Monitoring helps organizations that withdraw, distribute, treat, and discharge water to optimize their operations through better collection, management, and use of water-related data.
Through our scientific expertise and technological tools, we help all links in the water value chain to streamline their processes, to better manage their data and, ultimately, to make better decisions in everyone’s best interest.
Our mission: To unite, support, and equip stakeholders of urban and natural water cycles for the good of future generations. Together we protect our most precious resource.
Tell us about yourself?
It was in 2010, during my master’s research in limnology, that I was able to observe a juxtaposition in the water world. On the one hand, the traditional tools and methods of data collection, exploitation, and enhancement did not adequately meet the needs of water stakeholders and land managers. On the other hand, we were taught the concepts of integrated water management for watersheds without considering the domestic and industrial uses of the resource, which today form a parallel cycle that is inseparable from the natural cycle of water.
This is what led to the idea of data management software that would both better equip stakeholders in the sector and standardize processes, thus getting rid of silos in water management by facilitating the sharing and exchange of information so that everyone may benefit from each other’s efforts.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
I would tell myself not to hesitate and work with true marketing professionals from the very beginning.
What problem does your business solve?
We help water managers streamline their processes and make good use of technological assets to improve their team’s efficiency, requiring fewer resources to obtain the same results. What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
In the next five years, we want to consolidate the Canadian and French markets and make our first steps in the German and Swiss markets.
Regarding our technologies, we continue to develop smart functionalities for our proprietary data management tool Enki, and we are working with beta testers to improve the predictive models of Nerthus, our new cyanobacteria bloom forecasting service. We expect an official launch by the end of this year.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
The biggest challenge is convincing water stakeholders to make a digital shift and enter Industry 4.0. We did not expect change management to be such an important component of our work.
