Mill Street Brewery opened in 2002 in Toronto’s historic Distillery District. The first beer the company ever made was the Original Organic Lager, made with an earth-friendly philosophy. It was the first organic beer ever brewed in Toronto. The next drink the company produced was the Tankhouse Ale. By 2006, the demand for Mill Street’s brews had increased so much that the company had to move to new, bigger premises.
While not all Mill Street beverages were organic initially, in 2021, the company decided to update all their beers to be produced using organic grains. The company partnered with the Canadian Organic Trade Association (COTA) in 2021 to launch the Organic Future platform that helps provide Canadian farmers with financial resources when making the move to organic farming.
