Nu Grocery is a unique zero-waste grocery experience located in Ottawa, Ontario. Here, you can bring your own clean reusable containers to purchase bulk products, such as pasta, grains, rice, and beans. That’s not all, though – you can purchase just about anything here, from toothpaste to cereals and beyond. Some items (jams, milk, and more) must be packaged. However, everything that can be purchased without packaging is offered this way, reducing the strain on the environment with single-use packaging materials.

You can shop in-store or online. Some items, including bulk groceries, can only be purchased or delivered to the Ottawa area. This is because of the business model. If you choose to go in person, you should follow their purchasing process. First, tare your empty container and write down how much it weighs. Then, fill the container with your chosen product at the filling stations. At checkout, they will take the weight of the container and subtract the tare, so you only pay for the product you purchase. They also offer free compostable bags if you don’t have containers or if you forget them at home.
