Obasan was founded by Jean Corriveau who worked for a family friend’s mattress company before launching his own business. During that time, he discovered that how we sleep is impacted by many factors. Motivated by what he had learned, he started Obasan in 1985.
What sets Obasan apart from most other mattress manufacturers is that they make customised mattresses. Instead of making one-size-fits-all mattresses, Obasan recognises that each sleeper has individual needs and cusomises the mattresses based on weight distribution, preferred sleeping position, and spinal alignment.
The mattresses are handcrafted in Ottawa, using responsibly sourced materials from Sri Lanka, Argentina, Peru, and Canada.
