Giant Tiger was established in Ottawa’s Byward Market in 1961 by Gordon Reid. He launched the business with an investment of just $15,000. The company proved to be a huge success and the sales were almost $140,000 in its first year. In 1968, the company started franchising and has since expanded outside Ontario to most provinces in Canada.
