Mariposa was started by British immigrants Mike Barry and John Palmer who met on a Toronto training ride. Soon after meeting, they purchased frame building materials and using a friend’s basement to start building racing bikes. They formed an official partnership and founded Mariposa in 1969. The first Mariposa bike was completed in January 1970.
Unlike most other bicycles that are produces by machines on assembly lines, the bikes by Mariposa are built by hand by cyclists for cyclists. The team members each have a dedicated role in the assembly of each bike.
