Weighted blankets provide Deep Pressure Stimulation, which can help reduce stress, anxiety, and other issues that you may be facing in your daily life. Sleeping with a weighted blanket may be able to improve your sleep quality, as well as help you fall and stay asleep throughout the night. There are a lot of factors to consider when purchasing a weighted blanket. Today, we’ll be presenting two of Canada’s best weighted blanket brands to help you determine which option may be the right choice for you.

Gravid Weighted Blanket vs Hush Weighted Blanket: Which is Better for You?

The Gravid Weighted Blanket and the Hush Classic Weighted Blanket are comparable models that both seek to eliminate discomfort, anxiety and insomnia during the night. Both have great qualities, but there are some areas where one blanket shines over the other.

The Gravid Weighted Blanket offers better temperature control and lower prices. Their covers are colourful and you can choose the option that works with how you sleep. Eco-conscious Canadians will love the materials used in this mattress. It’s also machine washable and dryer-safe.

The Hush Weighted Blanket, on the other hand, provides better weight options, size options, and better flexibility than Gravid’s option. This blanket also comes with a longer sleep trial and better warranty, though it’s best for those who don’t sleep hot.

The blanket you choose is up to you. Consider the following features when deciding which option may work best for you.

Blanket Construction

Hush Classic Weighted Blanket Construction

The construction of your weighted blanket can determine how effective the weight distribution is, how durable it is, and more. Here, we’ll take a look at how each blanket is constructed.

Gravid Weighted Blanket Layers

The Gravid Weighted Blanket uses a 7-layer design to create even distribution for the long haul. The blanket doesn’t tolerate weight shifting too much, meaning you are more comfortable and your sleep is more beneficial. The insert, which contains glass micro-bead fill, is constructed with a mini-grid. This grid uses stitched compartments for the fill, but they are smaller than other blankets’ stitched pockets. This means the weight doesn’t move around as much overall.

Hush Weighted Blanket Layers

When it comes to the Hush Weighted Blanket, you’ll find an inner weighted blanket with 2-inch pockets that help keeps the fill contained. These smaller pockets prevent shifting and settling over time. This inner blanket is flexible because of the smaller fill. This inner blanket is zipped into the minky cover to help it stay durable and comfortable for the long haul.

Weight Options

When selecting a weighted blanket, the available weight options are important. You should select a weight option that is no more than 10% to 15% of your body weight. This allows for the greatest benefits of Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT). Becuase weight options are so important, knowing what is available for each blanket type is important.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

The Gravid Weighted Blanket is available in three weight options across three different size options. You’ll find that the Twin and Queen-sized blankets both come in 15-lb and 20-lb options, while the King-sized blanket is available in 35-lb (which is meant to be a shared option for partners). This blanket isn’t suitable for children because it doesn’t offer lighter options.

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Weighted Blanket is available in multiple different weight options. You can get a ‘Teen’ blanket, which is smaller than a Twin and weighs 12 lbs. Twin blankets come in 15-lb and 20-lb varieties, while Queen blankets come in 20-lb and 25-lb options. You can also get a King blanket in 30-lb and 35-lb options. This means that the Hush blanket has a better range of weight options when compared to the Gravid Weighted Blanket.

Fill Type

Gravid Weighted Blanket Construction

Each blanket has a unique fill type, which refers to the ‘weighted’ part of the blanket. These fillers form the inside layer of the blanket and create the weight you need to sleep more comfortably. Gravid and Hush use different fill types in their weighted blankets.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

The Gravid Weighted Blanket uses micro glass beads as fill. These beads are machine washable and dryer safe. They are also hypoallergenic and eco-conscious. Usually, this fill creates a thinner blanket that has less bulk overall. Glass beads are one of the best options for weighted blanket fill, as they provide a quiet experience that doesn’t require a lot of extra bulk to be effective. These glass beads are quilted into place with small squares to keep them from shifting around.

Hush Weighted Blanket

Hush blankets use a special type of glass sand fill. This is an upgrade from organic sand fill, but it is quieter and less prone to leaking. This also means the blanket can be cared for without ruining the fill. The sand doesn’t spread out as easily as larger fill types would. This fill also needs a tighter, reinforced stitch to stay in place.

Cover Materials

Both the Gravid Weighted Blanket and the Hush Weighted Blanket come with covers. These covers can reduce wear and damage to your weighted blanket, but they also make it more comfortable to snuggle up with.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

Gravid Weighted Blanket Cover Materials

Gravid’s Weighted Blanket comes with two different cover types. You can choose the MicroPlush Warming cover or a Breeze Cooling cover. The MicroPlush cover is made with 240gsm MicroPlush material, which means it’s soft and extremely cozey. This is the best option for those who need a little extra warmth throughout the night. This cover comes in grey, navy, and a special holiday print.

The Breeze Cooling cover is made with eco-conscious Tencel Lyocell, which makes it ideal for those who sleep warmer and need a cooler solution. This cover wicks away moisture, allowing you to gain the benefits of a weighted blanket without any added heat. This cover comes in grey, navy, sage, blush, and lilac.

Hush Weighted Blanket

Hush Classic Weighted Blanket Cover Materials

Hush’s Classic Weighted Blanket uses a soft minky cover that is made with 100% microfibre. This cover is smooth and soft. It’s comfortable to touch and easy to snuggle up in. The cover uses a quilted design that makes it feel comfortable in any space. This cover is available in two colours, including white and classic grey.

Sizes and Dimensions

Most sleep accessories have standardized sizes, but that isn’t the case with weighted blankets. While you should generally choose a blanket that fits the size of your bed, a weighted blanket might also be used as a throw blanket. The sizes and dimensions are important because your weighted blanket might be used in numerous ways. Single users should select Twin and Queen sizes, while partners need a King-sized blanket no matter the size of their mattress.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

The Gravid Weighted Blanket is available in three sizes, each with its own weight options.

  • Twin: 48″ x 78″ (15 lbs and 20 lbs)
  • Queen: 60″ x 80″ (15 lbs and 20 lbs)
  • King: 90″ x 90″ (35 lbs)

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Classic Weighted Blanket is available in five different sizes. Two of those sizes are King options with slightly different dimensions.

  • Teen: 48″ x 78″ (12 lbs)
  • Twin: 60″ x 80″ (15 lbs)
  • Queen: 80″ x 87″ (20 lbs or 25 lbs)
  • King: 90″ x 90″ (35 lbs)
  • King 94″ x 96″ (30 lbs)

Temperature Control

Gravid Weighted Blanket Temperature Control

Weighted blankets can often retain heat due to the additional weight distribution they provide. As a result, those who sleep hot will need a weighted blanket that helps reduce temperature to stay comfortable throughout the night. There are a few ways that weighted blankets can reduce temperature. The Gravid Weighted Blanket offers better covers for temperature control, as the Hush Classic Weighted Blanket is one of Hush’s warmest options.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

There are two covers offered for the Gravid Weighted Blanket. The MicroPlush option generates heat, so it’s ideal for those who need a little extra warmth on cold Canadian nights. If you need a cover that helps with better temperature control, you should choose the EcoBreeze Cooling Cover. This option is made with sustainable, breathable Lyocell that wicks away heat and moisture, reducing the uncomfortable temperature spikes that sometimes accompany a weighted blanket.

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Weighted Blanket is a little warmer, with a minky cover that doesn’t offer any additional options. You could always choose a different, cooler cover as long as the dimensions are the same, but the cover that comes with the blanket is notoriously hot. This blanket is ideal for snuggling under on colder nights, but that means it holds onto more heat than other options. If you sleep extremely hot, the Hush weighted blanket might not be the right option for you.

Care Instructions

Caring for a weighted blanket can be a bit of a challenge. Thankfully, both the Gravid Weighted Blanket and the Hush Weighted Blanket provide easy care instructions. Following these instructions is important if you want your blanket to last. Improper care can damage the blanket or cause leaks, so make sure to follow these instructions carefully.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

The Gravid Weighted Blanket is machine washable and dryer-safe. It’s best to remove the cover and wash the insert separately. All cover options are also machine washable and dryer safe.

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Weighted Blanket is machine washable. It should be line dried or laid flat to dry, though you can tumble dry it on the lowest setting if you need to. The cover should be removed and washed separately and should also be line dried if possible.

Pricing

The prices for the Gravid Weighted Blanket and the Hush Weighted blanket are comparable, though the Hush is more expensive in every size except King. Here are the prices for each size of these blankets, so you can choose the best weighted blanket based on your budget.

Shipping

Though both Gravid and Hush ship from within Canada, their policies and shipping times are a bit different. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect when you order a blanket from either of these sleep companies. Gravid promises faster shipping times throughout Canada.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

All of Gravid’s blankets and other products ship free within Canada, except for locations within Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon. Your order ships within one business day and you can track when your order will arrive once it is shipped. All products ship from their warehouse in Markham, Ontario.

It can take 1 to 2 business days to receive your order in Ontario and Quebec. The West Coast and Maritimes receive the longest estimated shipping time, at 3 to 5 days. Most locations fall between these estimated shipping times.

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Classic weighted blanket ships free to most locations in Canada. Your blanket is shipped within 2 business days of your purchase if it is in stock. After shipping, the blanket will arrive in 5 to 7 business days (though usually much quicker).

When ordering Hush blankets and other sleep products, make sure to order pre-ordered items separately. The entire order must be fulfilled before it will ship, which means the in-stock items you purchased can’t ship until your pre-ordered items do.

Sleep Trial and Returns

Hush Weighted Blanket Sleep Trial

Both Gravid and Hush offer sleep trials for their blankets, though Gravid’s policy is much shorter than Hush’s. If you aren’t sure about weighted blankets, it might be a good idea to go with Hush first. You’ll have more time to see if it works well for you. The return process is simple either way, though the return policy is a little different between the companies.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

The Gravid Weighted Blanket comes with a 14-night sleep trial. They recommend trying the blanket for smaller periods first, such as when you are watching TV or relaxing. After your body adjusts to the weight, you can try using it at night. You have to use the Gravid Weighted Blanket for at least 7 nights before you can begin the return process, which gives you a relatively small window to return the blanket.

If you don’t like it, you can initiate a return on the Gravid website. You’ll need to pay to ship your blanket back to the warehouse. Make sure the blanket is shipped in the original packing. If the blanket is returned in different packaging, you’ll only get a 50% refund. This is also true if the blanket is returned in poor condition.

Provided that your blanket is returned in good condition and in the original packaging, you will get a full refund of your purchase price.

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Weighted Blanket, on the other hand, features a 100-night sleep trial. There is no minimum period you must use the blanket before you can initiate a return. You will have plenty of time to get used to it and determine if it’s the right option for you.

If you need to return the Hush Weighted Blanket during this 100-night trial period, you can begin the process through your account page on the Hush website. You will have to pay the shipping costs to return your blanket, though you don’t have to pay them up-front. You can decide to have the shipping costs deducted from your refund.

Hush does not refund damaged blankets, so they must be in good repair in order to receive a refund. Returned blankets will be donated to local charities if they can. Once Hush receives your blanket and examines it for any damage, they will initiate a refund to your account. It can take 14 days to process the refund and up to 5 business days for the funds to arrive to your original purchase method.

Warranty

A warranty can work in your favour if there is something wrong with your blanket. While Hush has a robust warranty policy, Gravid’s Limited Warranty system is more limited. If you want a guarantee that your blanket is free of defects, you may want to choose the Hush Weighted Blanket. It has a superior warranty policy.

Gravid Weighted Blanket

The Gravid Weighted Blanket uses a Limited Warranty system, which works within the same time frame as the sleep trial. You’ll have 14 nights to determine if your blanket has any manufacturing defects that could be covered under the warranty. If it does, you’ll get a replacement blanket.

This warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship. It does not cover wear and tear, misuse, staining, alterations, or damage obtained during the shipping process. If your blanket is found to fall under the warranty, you will be asked to either return the blanket or safely dispose of it.

Hush Weighted Blanket

The Hush Weighted Blanket has a full 1-year warranty that protects against manufacturing defects. This warranty covers defects such as torn or broken zippers, loose threads not caused by washing, leaking fill caused by holes or tears, and physical flaws that create breaks or splits in the material.

This warranty does not cover improper care, staining, or damage caused by misuse. If Hush decides that your blanket falls under their warranty, they will pay for return shipping. Your blanket will be replaced or repaired at their discretion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both Gravid and Hush are Canadian companies. Their warehouses and factories are located around Ontario, so all of their blankets ship from within Canada as well. Delivery times may vary based on your location.

Weighted blankets can help reduce anxiety, insomnia, and other conditions that can interfere with sleep. They provide a calming effect for most sleepers. Users who have issues sleeping or struggle with anxiety often find that they have better quality sleep under a weighted blanket.

Your weighted blanket should weigh no more than 15% of your body weight. Your blanket is usually most effective when it weighs about 10% of your body weight. For example, a 150-lb person should choose a 15 lb weighted blanket.

The Hush Weighted Blanket offers a full 1-year warranty. The Gravid Weighted Blanket, on the other hand, only has a 14-night warranty. Hush offers a better warranty for their products overall, so you should choose Hush if that’s a concern.

The Hush Weighted Blanket gives you 100 nights to try the blanket before you decide if it’s right for you. The Gravid Weighted Blanket only comes with a 14-night sleep trial, so you’ll have a lot less time to determine if it’s good for your lifestyle. You have to try it for at least 7 nights before returning it. When you try the Hush Weighted Blanket, you don’t have to keep it for any amount of time before returning it.
