In a sea of weighted blanket options, Hush stands out. Their variety, attention to detail, and willingness to change the formula sets them apart from other brands on the market. While Hush has expanded to other niches (including mattresses and other bedding and accessories), their weighted blankets propelled them into the industry leader they are today. In our Hush weighted blanket review, we’ll look at some of their popular models.

Should You Buy Hush Weighted Blankets?

Hush is one of the new industry leaders when it comes to weighted blankets in Canada. It has a host of core options, each with its own advantages to cover a range of Canadian sleepers. If you have ever considered purchasing a weighted blanket but didn’t know where to start, Hush can be a great option for first-timers. The wealth of options can seem overwhelming, but being informed about what you need can help narrow down your options.

Hush blankets are premium, well-made products. They are beautifully made using the best materials available. The wealth of options when it comes to covers, weights, sizes, and beyond really set Hush apart as a leader in this niche, as few companies choose to have multiple weighted blanket options at all. Regardless, Hush offers more variety than most other options on the Canadian market. We say that you should give these blankets a try. Reading our Hush weighted blanket reviews can help you decide which option works best for you.

Hush offers four different weighted blanket models:

  • Hush Classic. Hush’s Classic weighted blanket is extremely soft, smooth, and warm. A variety of sizes and weight options provide great coverage for most Canadians who like a little extra warmth as they sleep.
  • Hush Iced 2.0. The Hush Iced 2.0 weighted blanket offers great pressure, allowing you to sleep better without overheating. The bamboo cover is extremely breathable and airy, so you can stay comfortable no matter how you sleep.
  • Hush Knit. The Hush Knit weighted blanket is a chunky hand-knit blanket with a dedicated handmade aesthetic. This blanket is cool and comfortable, with two cover options and multiple colour options to fit your room decor.
  • Hush Throw. The Hush Throw weighted throw blanket is an 8-pound blanket made for your couch or favourite chair. The two-sided cover creates a comfortable fit for most Canadians, as you can easily find the side that works best for you. If you’ve never tried a weighted blanket before, this option can be a great first option.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Hush Classic Weighted Blanket is the blanket that put Hush on the map. This option comes with a soft duvet cover to keep you comfortable, but the blanket can be used without it. There are three colour options, including grey, white, and beige. This blanket uses glass sand to form your body, wrapping you in a comforting hug that is great for reducing stress.

While some weighted blankets are stiff and difficult to move, the glass sand inside this blanket allows it to be flexible. However, the way that this glass sand moves also makes it best for those who need extra warmth while they sleep.

Both the duvet cover and the inner blanket cover are smooth and soft, perfect for those with sensitive skin. It’s available in weight options ranging from 12 lbs to 35 lbs, but each size only has a small selection of weight options. The included duvet cover is a nice touch – you won’t have to go out of your way to purchase one separately with this blanket.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

If you’ve ever hesitated to buy a weighted blanket because of how hot it can get, you might want to reconsider with the Hush 2.0 Iced Weighted Blanket. This option is made with a cover that is cool to the touch, allowing you to sleep peacefully without overheating. The bamboo viscose cover actively cools you, reducing temperature and wicking away moisture to leave you feeling more comfortable overall.

The fill is flexible glass sand. The cover itself is quilted with small 2-inch squares, so the sand has little room to move around. Still, it can shift as you sleep because the fill is smaller. While you’ll still get the same amount of fill in every pocket, the fill might slide and bunch at one side or the other.

The cooling cover that comes with this blanket is machine washable, so you can keep your blanket clean. The inner cover keeps the fill in place, allowing the outer cover to reduce wear and protect your blanket. This can also prevent leaks if the glass sand ever rips through a seam (though this only happens very rarely).

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Hush Knit Weighted Blanket stands out on our list. It’s the only option in our Hush blanket reviews not to include a cover. There are two different material options to choose from, including minky velour and cotton. Each has its merits (and a different set of colour options). Plus, the hand-knit chunky looks great in any room of your home. If you prefer a handmade aesthetic, this might be the weighted blanket for you.

This blanket comes in a single size and weight option, which serves as a one-size-fits-all option. This blanket can be used as you sleep, but it works best as a throw blanket because it’s a smaller size. The range of colours (including grey, cream, navy, light blue, and dusty rose for minky velour and grey, cream, dusty blue, and burnt orange for cotton) helps this blanket fit anywhere.

Plus, it’s the only option on our list that doesn’t use fill. You don’t have to worry about leaks or uneven distribution, as the blanket is knit consistently to distribute the weight. The knit texture naturally provides holes for better airflow and heat ventilation as well, so you won’t get too hot when you use this weighted blanket.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Hush Weighted Throw Blanket is perfect for afternoons on the couch or curling up with a book in your favourite recliner. When you need a break to reduce anxiety or help you relax, this blanket can help no matter where you want to use it. The double-sided cover helps it stand out even among the other Hush blanket reviews we are covering here. There are two colour options (blue or gray). The colourful side of the blanket is smooth satin microfibre, while the white side is made of soft fleece.

You can choose to use whichever side suits your situation. The fleece is soft and moisture-wicking, while the blue or gray side is breathable and extremely durable. You can switch between them effortlessly. This feature helps one blanket fit all of your needs.

This 8-pound blanket is meant for individual use. It’s available in a single size (42″ x 72″) and one weight option that fits the needs of most Canadians. However, sharing the blanket will reduce the benefits you receive. If you want to share a throw blanket, consider choosing a larger, heavier blanket for your living room.

Otherwise, this option is great for getting cozy away from your bed. It’s durable and comfortable, with breathable covers that help you stay cool while you’re using it.

Blanket Construction

Hush Weighted Blanket Construction

The Hush Weighted Blanket Options use different types of construction to contain fill and create balance. Most use the construction method pictured above. An inner weighted blanket is constructed with 2-inch pockets to contain the fill. This prevents the fill from shifting around as you sleep or as you use the blanket over time. The fill has a small amount of room to move, which creates a more balanced pressure over the surface of the weighted blanket. All three of the blankets constructed in this manor use glass sand fill, which is a finer and more flexible version of glass bead fill.

The inner weighted blanket is zipped into a cover. Only the Hush Knit Weighted Blanket is presented without a cover because it is constructed differently.

The Hush Knit Weighted Blanket is the only option in our Hush weighted blanket review that doesn’t use this construction model. This blanket is knit with weighted chunky yarn and does not contain any fill. It’s hand-knit with these larger threads, which results in an entirely different texture.

Weight Options

The weight option selection for Hush weighted blankets is evenly divided. While the Hush Knit and Hush Throw weighted blankets come in a single weight option (15 lbs for the Knit and 8 lbs for the Throw), the other two blankets come with multiple weight options that are tied to size.

Available weight options vary based on the size of the blanket. That’s because the larger Queen and King-sized blankets are meant to be shared. These options weigh between 20 lbs and 35 lbs to evenly divide the weight between two users. The following weights are available for the Hush Classic and Hush Iced 2.0 weighted blankets.

  • Teen: 12 lbs
  • Twin: 15 lbs, 20 lbs
  • Queen: 20 lbs, 25 lbs
  • King: 30 lbs, 35 lbs
But how do you know which weight option to choose? Hush recommends choosing a blanket that is 10% of your body weight. If you are sharing the blanket, you should aim for about 10% of your shared body weight, not to exceed 35 pounds. This is the maximum weight that is considered safe for weighted blankets.

Overall, Hush provides a good range of weight options for their weighted blankets. Separating the weight options by size is a smart move, but it can feel alienating if you need a heavier-than-average blanket.

Fill Type

Three of Hush’s weighted blankets use fill to create weight. The fill they use is a special type of glass sand. While most weighted blankets that use glass fill use glass beads, this finer type of fill allows for better movement and more flexibility. The sand is completely non-toxic.

While some glass fill can make noise as it moves around, glass sand is small enough that your blanket is nearly silent. While you might think that smaller particles may create more opportunity for the fill to escape or leak out of the seems, the glass sand used here is contained with multiple tight seams and high-quality construction.

The Hush Knit weighted blanket doesn’t use glass fill. Instead, it uses hand-knit chunky yarn to create weight. This blanket weighs less, but it’s silent and cozy. Because of the way the blanket is knit, the weight is still distributed evenly. The benefit to this fill-free blanket is the lack of shifting or bunching that can occur because of fill.

Cover Materials

Hush Weighted Blanket Cover Materials

Each option in our Hush blanket review has a different type of cover. This is the area where each blanket is set apart from the next. Considering the cover material can help you choose the Hush weighted blanket that works best for you.

Hush Classic uses a minky soft cover that is extremely smooth. It’s soft to the touch and feels great against your skin. Plus, it has a lovely quilted design that looks great in any bedroom. The cover comes in grey, white, or beige.

Hush Iced uses the Iced 2.0 cover, which is made with viscose bamboo. It works to reduce heat by wicking away moisture. It has a crinkled, crisp feel when compared to the softness of the Hush Classic. However, this is the best material to use if you overheat during the night.

The Hush Knit doesn’t use a cover. The hand-knit design provides enough interest and durability to go without one. However, the blanket itself comes in two different ‘feels’, including minky velour and cotton. Between these two options, there is a range of colours for all spaces.

The Hush Throw uses yet another type of cover. This two-sided cover uses a colourful satin microfibre on one side for a soft, breathable touch. It’s velvety and helps you feel comfortable, while the fleece side wicks away moisture and remains flexible through multiple washes.

The range of options for cover materials helps Hush weighted blankets shine. There’s an option for everyone, and the covers are often sold separately if you want to try different textures, feels, and properties with your Hush weighted blanket.

Sizes and Dimensions

The Hush Classic and the Hush Iced weighted blankets come in multiple sizes to fit just about any bed. There are four core sizes that each of these blankets uses:

  • Teen: 48″ x 78″
  • Twin: 60″ x 80″
  • Queen: 80″ x 87″
  • King: 90″ x 90″, 94″ x 96″ (Classic Only)

These are standardized sizes, and each comes with its own available weight options. The absence of a Full option or larger blankets (such as those that might work for California King-sized beds) is notable, but these options should work for nearly every Canadian.

Meanwhile, the Hush Knit and Hush Throw blankets each come in a predefined size.

  • Hush Knit: 48″ x 72″
  • Hush Throw: 42″ x 72″

They also come with a single weight option. These specialized options are made to meet very specific needs, so they don’t offer any customization as far as sizes and dimensions.

Temperature Control

Because weighted blankets are heavy, they can often trap heat and moisture. This can lead to uncomfortable overheating, especially if you already sleep hot. Thankfully, not all heated blankets are hot. Some are specifically created for those that need a little extra temperature control throughout the night.

The Hush Classic blanket is made for colder sleepers. The minky cover doesn’t allow for much breathability. However, you can remove the cover if you need a cooler experience with this blanket. The Hush Throw blanket is similarly made for those who need extra warmth, but it’s a little better about temperature control. Both sides of the cover offer breathability and moisture-wicking.

However, the Hush Iced 2.0 Weighted Blanket was made in direct response to warmer weighted blankets. This blanket doesn’t change the weighted formula, but it adds a cover that provides active cooling. It’s cold to the touch. This cover is made with soft, silky viscose bamboo. It’s an airy cover that offers moisture-wicking features. It’s proven to reduce night sweats.

The Hush Knit Weighted Blanket offers good breathability, too. The hand-knit design allows for plenty of airflow. Natural holes in the knitting become small air pockets that reduce heat build-up and help vent moisture to keep you cooler than other weighted blankets might.

Care Instructions

Hush provides detailed care instructions for each of its products. These instructions are simple and easy to follow, allowing you to freshen up your weighted blanket without too much extra work.

For all blankets that use a cover (including the Hush Classic, the Hush Iced 2.0, and the Hush Throw), you should wash the cover separately. Covers should be washed on cold with a gentle detergent. Afterward, Hush recommends line drying the cover rather than placing it in your dryer.

The weighted insert should be hand-washed and spot-cleaned for best results. Due to the weight and the fill, you shouldn’t attempt to put your weighted blanket in the washing machine. Hang or air-dry the insert for best results.

The Hush Knit blanket should also be hand-washed and left to air dry. Because this blanket doesn’t use a cover, it might be difficult to keep it clean. Even so, washing it in your washing machine isn’t the best choice.

Note that Hush ships all the products in your order at once. You should try to order each item separately, especially if one or more of them is on pre-order. Any products in the same order that are in stock won’t be shipped until your pre-ordered items ship, so make sure to keep them separate.

It’s a good idea to purchase your Hush blanket directly from the Hush website to take advantage of this warranty. If your blanket is purchased from a third party, the warranty may not apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

As long as your weighted blanket isn’t too heavy for you, it’s safe to use it all night long. However, you should not use weighted blankets exceeding 35 pounds. You should also watch the weight on most weighted blankets, as using a blanket that is too heavy can have adverse effects.

Most weighted blankets can trap heat and moisture. If you often wake up hot or sweaty throughout the night, you should consider a weighted blanket that has cooling features. A hand-knit option is also ideal for those who need extra airflow as they sleep.

You can get the same great benefits from a weighted blanket no matter which position you sleep in. The assertion that weighted blankets can only benefit back sleepers is a myth. Side sleepers and stomach sleepers can also benefit from the deep pressure of a weighted blanket.

Using a duvet cover on your weighted can help extend the life of your weighted blanket. The duvet cover should match the dimensions of your weighted blanket for the best results. Thankfully, the blankets in our Hush weighted blanket review come with duvet covers (where applicable).

Hush offers a 100-night sleep trial for all of their weighted blankets. This gives you a longer time to try the blankets to decide if it works for you. If you don’t like the blanket, you can initiate a return and get a refund of your purchase price.

Hush offers a 1-year limited warranty for all of their blankets. It covers manufacturing defects, such as torn zippers, loose threads, fill leakage, and faulty materials. This warranty is only available through the Hush website, so it might not apply if you choose to purchase the Hush blanket from a third party.
