If you sleep hot, you may frequently blame your mattress, the temperature in your room, or the duvet you’re using. You might not even think about how your sheets can make all the difference. Cooling sheets may help reduce heat build-up, increase airflow throughout the bed, and keep you cooler overall throughout the night. They can be a great compliment to cooling mattresses, pillows, and breathable duvet covers, all of which can also reduce temperatures throughout the night. But what do you look for in cooling sheets? Which companies offer the highest quality sheet sets?

We’ve compiled this list of the best cooling sheets in Canada. Each sheet set was evaluated by our test lab crew first, then given to testers. Each tester gave their honest option, which resulted in just a few standouts in the group. We evaluated based on materials, breathability, thread count, and more.

Best Cooling Sheets for Canadians

Why Did We Choose These Cooling Sheets in Canada?

As we evaluated each of these sheet sets, they started to stand out in special categories. These categories are ultimately what helped us decide which sheets to recommend to you. Here’s why we chose each of these cooling sheets – and why you should too!

The Silk & Snow Percale Bed Sheets are the best cooling sheets in Canada overall. These sheets have a lower thread count (around 200). This, combined with the one-over-one-under weave, makes them extremely breathable and cool. Even the hottest sleepers will find that these sheets keep them cool and comfortable.

The best smooth cooling sheets in Canada are the Hush Iced 2.0 Cooling Sheets and Pillowcase Set. The 100% bamboo design and moisture-wicking properties make these sheets great for those who overheat during the night, too.

Linen sheets can be breathable, too. The Silk & Snow Flax Linen Bed Sheets are the best linen cooling sheets in Canada, providing a crisp, cool texture with unrivalled softness. It only gets better over time!

The QE Home Aruba BeechBliss Tencel Modal Sheet Set is the best Tencel set on our list. Tencel helps wick away moisture and regulate temperature, making them great for those who sleep hot but also tend to sweat more.

When it comes to Egyptian cotton, Silk and Snow Egyptian Cotton Bed Sheets are the best. These genuine Egyptian cotton sheets are silky and breathable, as well as soft enough for the most sensitive skin.

When it comes to colour options, look no further than the Kotn Fitted Sheet and Pillowcase Set. While some larger colour options include vibrant colours, Kotn sticks to neutrals and soft tones, so your sheets are bound to be classy no matter which of the 8 options you choose.

When it comes to organic sheets, you won’t find better than the Endy Sheets. These airy, 100% organic cotton sheets are extremely breathable and cool. The sateen weave is soft and only gets softer with every wash. Your bed will stay fresh and cool.

Finally, the Bedsure Cooling Bed Set is the best bamboo sheet set we found. Made from 100% organic rayon from bamboo, these sheets can wick away moisture like no one else. These sheets are a must if you’re often sweaty when you wake up.

These sheets are certified as genuine Egyptian cotton, sourced and traced from Egypt. They are also OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning they are free of all harsh chemicals. We know that Canadians are concerned about ethically-sourced materials and a transparent production process, and Silk and Snow have tapped into that. The fitted sheet featured elasticized trim to help the sheets stay in place and provide a precise fit.

If you don’t use a top sheet, you’re in luck! There are no flat sheets available in this set, though you can purchase a flat sheet and more pillowcases separately. This is because some people don’t use their top sheets and prefer to snuggle right into the duvet cover.

At 400 thread count, these sheets are just a little denser than some of the other options on our list. However, Egyptian cotton makes up for it. These sheets are a joy to touch and sleep on. You can rest assured that your sheets are of the highest quality with the OEKO-TEX certification, which provides an evaluation based on the age and chemical composition of your fabrics.

Best Organic Sheets

The Endy Sheets

Endy Organic Cotton Sheets

Features:

It's Great For:

The Endy Sheet set is lightweight and luxurious, perfect for those who wake up sweaty or find themselves uncomfortably warm in the middle of the night. These sheets are made with 100% organic cotton, certified by the GOTS (or Global Organic Textile Standard). This means that they are made at the highest level of quality and that the organic cotton used in these sheets is organic. Those who enjoy being a little more eco-conscious will enjoy this sheet set.

In addition, the lightweight cotton makes them extremely breathable. The 300 thread count is the maximum count for breathability. These sheets will be soft and silky, and they’ll only get softer with every wash. Worried about caring for them properly? No worries! You can machine wash and dry these sheets right at home. You can keep your bed fresh without any complicated care instructions or risk of damage.

These sheets are woven in a soft, silky sateen pattern. This pattern allows for a soft, breathable fabric that feels smooth against your skin. The combination of organic cotton and the sateen weave creates a luxurious feel that will ensure you get great sleep night after night. We gave these sheets a breathability rating of 4, meaning these sheets are more breathable than average. The higher thread count doesn’t seem to affect the breathability at all!

These sheets come in six standard mattress sizes. They pair perfectly with Endy’s other bedding accessories, including pillows, duvets, duvet covers, and the Endy mattress. There are three colours to choose from, including Alpine White, Storm Grey, and Glacier Blue. If you choose to get Endy’s duvet cover, it comes in the same colours. Why Trust Us?

Years in the sleep industry have given us an edge. We know what to look for when it comes to a great night of sleep! When we evaluated these sheets (and many others), we looked for a few key features that set them apart. We ran tests in our lab and took feedback from testers to arrive at these recommendations. Some of the performance areas we checked during our search for the best cooling sheet sets in Canada were:

  • Materials. What the sheet is made of is one of the most important things to consider. Fabrics like bamboo, cotton, and Tencel are the best for heat, so we looked for options that used these cooler materials.
  • Thread Count. Thread count might not be important for regular sheets, but lower thread counts are generally less dense and more breathable. This makes low-thread-count sheets great for those who sleep hot. We evaluated this as we looked at each set.
  • Breathability. Breathable sheets have a better chance of keeping you cool. We looked at each of the mattresses here and gave them a breathability rating based on how much airflow they could create as you sleep.
  • Weave. The weave of the fabric can make all the difference when it comes to cooling sheets. We looked for sheets with cooler weaves like sateen to help with breathability and airflow.

How Can Cooling Sheets Help You?

Cooling sheets can help you sleep more comfortably and stay asleep longer, particularly if you often overheat or wake up sweaty. Sheets made to have cooling properties can help regulate temperature and moisture. Breathable sheet options lead to increased airflow throughout your bed, which can reduce heat build-up under your sheets. If the heat has some way to vent, cooler air can circulate into your sleeping space. This means you’ll stay comfortable for longer.

If you can find the right combination of materials for you, cooling sheets can work. Combined with a cooler duvet, a cooling pillow, and a cooling mattress, you’ll be comfortable even if you often overheat. Cooling sheets and other bedding can also help mitigate the effects of those hotter summer nights, keeping you comfortable all year round.

How to Choose Cooling Sheets

Now that you know why you should choose cooling sheets, it’s time to look at some of the ways you can choose your cooling sheets. Here are some of the main things you should look for when it comes to cooling sheets.

Material

What are your sheets made of? The material can make all the difference, especially when it comes to options outside of cotton. Here’s a quick breakdown of the types of materials you’ll find as you shop for cooling sheets.

  • Cotton. There are a few different types of cotton to consider, including Supima and Egyptian. All cotton sheets are a little more breathable than other materials, and they are often light as well. Cotton is never a bad way to go.
  • Tencel. Tencel is an ethically-sourced material that wicks away moisture and heat. Tencel is used in a lot of cooling products because of these properties, making Tencel a great choice for cooling sheets.
  • Bamboo. Bamboo is another all-natural option that wicks away moisture and heat during the night.

You may find a host of different cooling materials as you search for sheets, but these are the best and most common options. Don’t be afraid to choose other materials, but be aware that some of them might not be exactly as they advertise.

Thread Count

Thread count is a measure of how many threads are in one square inch of fabric. Because you want cooling sheets, you have to look for more breathable options. This means that while high thread-count sheets are generally more desirable for their softness and quality, they aren’t going to help when it comes to overheating.

That’s why we looked for thread counts under 300 where we could find them. These lower thread counts (down to 180) make for breathable, lightweight sheets that are great for summer temperatures. They are also much better at regulating temperature than thicker options with higher thread counts.

Breathability Rating

The key to cool sheets is breathability. To help evaluate these sheets, we developed a system that ranks breathability on an easy scale from 1 to 5. We assigned each sheet a rating based on our test lab results, as well as feedback we received from testers.

Our breathability scale is:

  1. The least breathable options we found.
  2. Slightly more breathable.
  3. Moderately breathable.
  4. More breathable than average.
  5. Extremely breathable and best for sweaty sleepers.

Each of the sheets on our list has a breathability rating, so make sure to see which options are best for you! These rankings are not exclusive. Many of the sheets on our list are rated at 4 or 5 for breathability!

Sets

Of course, sheets come in sets. You rarely find a single sheet on its own (though it does happen with some sets). That’s why we’ve carefully listed out everything you get in these sheet sets. Some sets don’t include the flat sheet, and they must be purchased separately. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know when we talk about the sheet sets.

Most sets come with a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and a pillowcase. Larger sheet sizes (full and up) usually contain two pillowcases, as these beds are big enough for multiple pillows. Some sets allow you to order additional pillowcases separately, too.

Moisture-Wicking

If you often wake up sweaty and uncomfortable, moisture-wicking is one aspect of cooling sheets you need. Some materials (such as bamboo) wick away moisture, including sweat. This means that you won’t wake up soaked anymore – you’ll be fresh and clean! Moisture-wicking materials are special, and only a few types of sheets will have moisture-wicking and/or absorbent properties.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, look for bamboo sheets and other options that are clean, and fresh, and include moisture-wicking properties. It could change the way you sleep!

Weave

The way your sheets are woven can impact how comfortable or soft they are. There are a few different types of weaves, but we’ll be focusing on some of the common options we found on our list.

  • Sateen. Sateen is a weave that uses a 3 (or 4)-to-1 design to create an extremely airy breathable fabric. This weaving method is durable and secure, but it’s also extremely soft and lightweight.
  • Twill. Twill is a durable, sleek weave that creates an opaque fabric. It drapes well and feels lightweight, but it’s a thicker weave than other basic weaves (and even sateen). With the right materials, it can be breathable.

While it might not seem like a big deal, choosing the right weave can help your sheets feel more comfortable, more durable, and more. There are a few more weaves available, but you should always look into the type of weave and what it might mean for breathability.

Trial Period

Some sheet sets include a sleep trial. Much like in mattresses, a sleep trial allows you to try the sheets before you commit to purchasing them. Sleep trials for sheets can last anywhere from two weeks (14 days) to 60 days. Some companies may offer longer sleep trials. If you aren’t sure if you’ll like your sheets, going for a set with a longer sleep trial is the best option for you.

Each company has different policies for its sleep trials. For the most part, you’ll get free returns and a full refund during the sleep trial period. Returned sheets are donated to those in need in most cases.

Always make sure to check the company’s sleep trial policy before you take part. Some companies have vastly different policies and exceptions, especially about when you can return the sheets (and in what condition).

Certifications

There are a few different certifications for materials used in sheets. All of them are meant to signify quality, so you can guarantee that a certified sheet set is made with the best possible materials. Here are a few of the different certifications you can expect to encounter as you shop for sheets:

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). This certification is related to organic fibres. GOTS-certified Fabrics must meet stringent environmental standards, social criteria, and an organic textile supply chain. It’s a difficult certification to obtain, but it’s a reassurance that your fabrics are made from organic fibres.
  • OEKO-TEX. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification is a type of evaluation carried out by a third-party company. This evaluation determines whether the fabrics and materials are safe for human use, made without harmful chemicals, and with sustainability in mind. OEKO-TEX also offers Made In Green as a certification, which verifies sustainability, ethical practices, and more.
  • Egyptian Cotton Certification. Egyptian cotton is an expensive type of fabric. Lots of companies claim to sell Egyptian Cotton without this certification, but you should be wary. Cotton genuinely sourced from Egypt will be certified as genuine. The oversight from companies that offer this certification is a guarantee of quality, too.

Hypoallergenic

If you have allergies, you aren’t alone. Many Canadians struggle with allergies to dust, mites, and other allergens that might be lurking in their bedding. While most allergies aren’t necessarily triggered by bedding, some allergens found in bedding can contribute to allergy flares.

Many of the sheets on our list are hypoallergenic, which means they are resistant to dust and mites. This means you’ll sleep easier with these sheets if you often have issues with allergies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Natural fibres like cotton and linen are best for those who need cooling sheets. Natural fibres are usually more breathable than synthetic fibres, meaning you won’t wake up so sweaty.

As we mentioned above, lower thread counts are the coolest. They are less dense, and therefore more breathable. Thread counts between 180 and 300 are best for those who sleep hot, as they create better airflow overall.

Though Microfibre is a synthetic material, it’s generally just as breathable as cotton. It’s also moisture-wicking and helps regulate body temperature.
