Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress

Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress is a medium firm mattress with a Euro-top plush surface that all sleeping positions will enjoy. This Euro top cover provinces a luxurious cushioning that cradles your body while being supportive.

For Canadians who sleep warm, the layer of Wool and Hollo fibres combined with gel foam reduces temperatures as you sleep and do not retain heat. Edge sleepers will appreciate the Airflow Surround Foam Encasement system built into the Kingsdown Clairmont. This system keeps edges from sinking and sagging over time, providing excellent breathability and additional temperature regulation.

For co-sleepers, the coil-based layer helps with motion isolation and pressure relief. This base layer has zoned relief, designed to help side and back sleepers have a comfortable night’s sleep. Those with deep-pressure pain may need a firmer mattress with extra support features.

The Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress is an excellent choice for all sleeping positions. Side and Back sleepers will find this mattress comfortable, while stomach sleepers will think the Euro top surface is soft enough to sleep soundly.

Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress

Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress is a medium-firm mattress that provides extra pressure relief and comfort. The top is made of a quilted fabric that is ultra-soft and breathable.

Under the top cover is a foam layer blended with Wool and Hollo fibre and gel. This layer is cushioning and cool, as it wicks heat away from the body throughout the night. The Airflow Surround Foam Encasement system built into the mattress is a great feature that edge sleepers will appreciate. This unique edge system prevents the perimeter from sinking and sagging over time and provides maximum airflow to help further reduce body temperatures and mattress heat.

The base of the mattress is made of coils, perfect for those that co-sleep and need extra motion isolation and those suffering from joint pain. This layer has zoned pressure relief, which benefits those suffering from achy aches and pains while sleeping and those who are side and back sleepers.

The Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress is a wonderful choice for a medium-firm mattress. Stomach sleepers may find this mattress to be too firm for their liking, but side and back sleepers will appreciate the built-in support.

Mattress Construction

The Kingsdown hybrid mattresses featured today are constructed very similarly, with layers of foam surrounding a coil base. Let’s look at the Kingsdown mattresses in our review and see how their construction compass.

Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress

Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Construction
  1. Soft Quilted Cover. This soft and plush cover features a layer of anti-microbial properties, keeping the mattress cool and fresh while minimizing allergens.
  2. Plush Euro Top Layer. This soft cushioning foam allows sleepers to sink into their mattress while being supported.
  3. Wool and Fibre Gel Layer. Designed to move heat away from your body, this layer of Wool and Hollo fibres, along with cooling gel foam, does a great job regulating body temperature.
  4. Edge Support Frame. Using a foam encasement system, this edge support promotes airflow while ensuring the perimeter of the mattress does not break down over time.
  5. Coil Base Layer. Excellent in preventing motion transfer, these Linear Zoned Conformance Pocket Coils make up the durable foundation of this mattress, providing zoned relief for hips, shoulders and back.

Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress

  3. Edge Support Frame. This unique support system is great for all Canadians who sleep on the edge of the bed. It uses a foam encasement that provides increased airflow and mattress durability.
  4. Coil Base Layer. Linear Zoned Conformance Pocket Coils make up the foundation of this mattress, providing zoned relief for hips, shoulders and back. Canadians who co-sleep will appreciate the motion isolation this layer offers.

Firmness

Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress

6 on Firmness Scale

Coming in at a 6 on our firmness scale is the Kingsdown Clairmont Mattress. This is ranked as a medium-firm and is softer than the other Kingsdown mattress in our review today. While the base of the mattress, paired with the layer of gel foam, is incredibly supportive, this mattress features a thick Euro top surface, making it more luxurious and cozy.

The Kingsdown Studio Clairmont is an incredibly comfortable mattress that most Canadians will find just the right firmness. Suited for all sleeping positions, this mattress is supportive yet plush.

Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress

7.5 on Firmness Scale

The Kingsdown Studio Acton is a medium-firm mattress, ranking as 7.5 on the firmness scale, making it firmer than the other Kingsdown mattress in our review. While the gel layer and coil base offer the same support and stability, this mattress does not provide a cloud-like Euro top. This mattress is excellent for those needing extra pressure relief and support from achy joints or pressure points.

The Kingsdown Studio Acton is best suited for side and back sleepers and those needing pressure relief. Canadians that are stomach sleepers may find the extra firmness uncomfortable and may want to consider the other Kingsdown mattress instead.

Motion Isolation

Kingsdown Clairmont Motion Isolation

For Canadians who co-sleep, having restless partners often means restless sleep for everyone involved. Mattresses often do not stop the motion transfer; when one person moves or gets up, the other can feel it too. The Kingsdown Hybrid mattresses both do a great job with motion isolation.

Motion transfer is significantly reduced with the Kingsdown Clairmont and the Acton, featuring combined gel foam and a coil base. Both mattresses feature foam encasement perimeter support, which also helps reduce motion transfer between partners. For moderately restless sleepers, either of these two mattresses will do a great job with motion isolation, and you can not go wrong with either choice.

Pressure Relief

Canadians who sleep on their side and back might find that they wake up in the morning all around achy or having pain localized to their hips and shoulders. Finding a mattress that can help with deep pressure relief can be essential for many looking to buy a new mattress.

Both of the Kingsdown mattresses do an excellent job with pressure relief due to the supportive gel foam layer, as well as the firm coil base that has zoned pressure relief for hips and shoulders. The Kingsdown Clairmont is the softer of the two mattresses, featuring a Euro top, and those needing deep support may find this layer too plush. The Kingsdown Acton mattress features a supportive top layer that is both comfortable and refreshing but is not as pillow-like.

Temperature Control

Kingsdown Studio Acton Temperature Control

For many Canadians, waking up hot and sweaty is a regular occurrence. Whether you sleep hot naturally or your mattress is retaining heat throughout the night and becoming increasingly warmer hour by hour, finding a mattress with temperature control may be vital.

Both Kingsdown mattresses in our review today do an excellent job with temperature control throughout the night. They both feature a layer of Wool and Hollo fibre gel foam that works all night to wick heat away from the body and disperse it through the bottom of the mattress. For those that sleep extra warm, the Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress does a slightly better job with temperature control, as the cooling layer is closer to the top of the mattress, with no additional layers in between it and your body.

Overall, though, for moderately warm sleepers, both of the Kingsdown mattresses featured today do a good job of working hard to keep your body temperature regulated night after night.

Edge Support

For those who sleep on the edge of the bed regularly or just sit there often enough- worrying about the sagging and sinking that can happen to the perimeter of the mattress can be of concern. Many bed in a box mattresses do not feature any edge support built into their mattresses, but fortunately, Kingsdown had edge sleepers in mind when designing these two hybrid mattresses.

Both of the Kingsdown hybrid mattresses in our review today feature excellent edge support systems. They both feature an Airflow Surround Foam Encasement system. This foam system surrounds the bed’s perimeter with extra support, preventing the sagging and sinking of the mattress over time. These mattresses feature the same unique Kingsdown edge support system, and either mattress is a solid choice for edge sleepers.

Ease of Movement

For Canadians that frequently move around throughout the night and need a comfortable surface to do so, and those that need seamless transitions getting in and out of bed, finding a mattress with good ease of movement is important.

The two Kingsdown mattresses in our review today feature different levels of ease of movement. The Studio Clairmont mattress is softer and could pose some challenges for those that need a firmer mattress to get in and out of bed, as well as turn throughout the night. The Kingsdown Studio Acton mattress, though, provides a more stable and less plush surface, which is great for those who move throughout the night or have a more challenging time getting in and out of bed.

Frequently Asked Questions

All Kingsdown mattresses are manufactured in the United States, primarily in the state of North Carolina. Kingsdown has a headquarters base in Canada, though, and has multiple warehouses throughout Canada that they ship from. While Kingsdown mattresses aren’t made in Canada, you won’t have to wait longer to receive your mattress.

All Kingsdown mattresses should be placed on a supportive surface, such as a standard bed frame, adjustable frame, boxspring or platform bed. If the foundation is older, buying a new one at the same time as a new mattress is always a good idea to maximize performance. Plus, using a foundation protects your mattress from damage, mould, and support issues throughout its life.

Generally, you do not need to be home when a Kingsdown mattress is delivered. Sleep Country uses FedEx to deliver, and the Kingsdown mattresses featured in our review today come in small boxes, as the mattress is rolled and compressed. These boxes can easily be left on a porch or doorstep for delivery.

When purchased through Sleep Country Canada, the Kingsdown mattress ships free to most Canadian locations. There is a shipping fee associated with some locations, including the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland, and Labrador. This shipping fee is $120 regardless of your location if you fall in any of these areas.

No matter where you purchased your Kingsdown mattress from, you can register it on the Kingsdown website for a 10-year limited warranty. You should have your sales receipt with you. In order to claim the warranty for any defects, you need to keep the tags on the mattress.

The Kingsdown Studio Acton Mattress is slightly better with temperature control than other mattresses featured in our review today. While the Kingsdown Studio Clairmont Mattress offers great temperature control as well, the Acton has its cooling layer closer to the top of the mattress. This allows for better cooling at the surface of the mattress.
