It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Casper Nova Hybrid mattress uses a blend of Casper’s proprietary foams to create a sleep experience you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. This mattress uses layers of perforated memory foam, zoned foam, and a pocket coil base to keep you well-supported and comfortable. Despite this mattress’s many support layers, it still offers a plush sleeping surface.

This mattress is a medium on our firmness scale. It’s rated at about a 5/10, making it ideal for those who sleep on their sides. The zoned support layers use a firmer foam in the centre of the mattress, while softer foam prevents pressure points at your shoulders. The transition layer provides an additional 7 zones of support, collapsing where needed to provide better alignment and balance. Together, these features make this mattress ideal for side sleepers and those who suffer from back pain

The support core uses bouncy pocket coils to help with alignment, while a layer of firm edge support foam reduces sagging at the edges. If you need support from one edge of the mattress to the other, this mattress will provide it. With a recycled material cover and CertiPUR-US certification, this mattress is an excellent choice for those who need a softer option that still offers great support. Perforated foam layers also increase airflow, reducing higher temperatures throughout the mattress.

Mattress Construction

Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress Construction

The Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress uses layers of unique materials to create a comfortable, breathable feel. This mattress offers great pressure relief and support, and it all starts with the materials used in the mattress.

  • Recycled Cover. The cover of the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress is made with up to 70 recycled plastic bottles. This material is eco-conscious, breathable, and softer than you might expect.
  • AirScape Foam. The top layer of this mattress uses a layer of AirScape perforated foam. This breathable foam uses thousands of small holes to increase airflow, moving hot air away from you and replacing it with cooler air. Heat won’t build up under you as you sleep, so you’ll stay cool throughout the night.
  • Zoned AirScape Foam. Another layer of AirScape foam provides zoned support as well as increased cooling features. There are three ergonomic zones, including firmer foam through your hips and lower back. Softer foam under your shoulders offers better pressure relief throughout, while the perforations continue to keep you cool and comfortable.
  • Zoned Support Pro Foam. This layer is unique to the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress. It’s a 7-zone contoured support layer that helps align your spine, support your lower back, and reduce strain throughout the night. It also acts as transition foam, eliminating motion transfer as it keeps you balanced.
  • Pocket Coil Support Base. The pocket coil base adds lift and support to the core of the mattress. Here, you’ll find better airflow and firmer support, which is great for side sleepers.
  • Edge Support Perimeter. A perimeter of firm edges support foam reduces sagging or sinking at the edges of the mattress. You can sit on the edge of the bed in the morning without any sliding or discomfort.
  • Additional Support Foam. A thin layer of support foam helps the mattress keep its shape and retain its support structure over time.

Firmness

5 on Firmness Scale

The Casper Nova Hybrid is a medium mattress, which falls at about a 5 on the firmness scale. This makes it a natural medium, perfect for side sleepers and those who prefer a plush sleeping surface. Firmer support from the hybrid coils and zoned support foam layers provide for better balance and alignment overall. Side sleepers and some lightweight stomach sleepers will feel comfortable on this mattress.

However, the plush surface and easy pressure relief may be uncomfortable for heavier sleepers. The lack of support might also deter stomach sleepers, especially those who need stronger support without sinking into the mattress.

Motion Isolation

If you’re tired of waking up when your partner turns over, you should look for a mattress with better motion isolation. While hybrid mattresses usually offer middling motion isolation at best, this plush design and AirScape foam layers used in the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress help isolate motion better than most other hybrid mattresses on the Canadian market.

Though you might feel some movement from the other side of the bed, there is a lot of isolation that allows you to sleep better throughout the night. If you aren’t a particularly light sleeper, we wouldn’t expect you to feel much movement from the other side of the bed.

Pressure Relief

Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress Pressure Relief

The thick foam layers used in this mattress provide great pressure relief, particularly for those who often wake up with uncomfortable pressure points. If your mattress creates enough pressure to wake you up in the middle of the night, you’ll appreciate the plush, pressure-relieving properties of the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress.

The AirScape foam layers on top lead the way with pressure relief, while the zoned transition foam layer helps relieve your deepest pressure points. Collapsing channels adapt to your body, providing better relief where it’s needed the most. Layers of comfort zones help provide additional comfort, as well as a ‘hug’ from the memory foam that won’t leave you trapped in the mattress.

Temperature Control

Most Canadians wake up too hot in the middle of the night. If you are one of them, this mattress may be able to help you sleep a little cooler. While it doesn’t use gel cooling foams, this mattress uses multiple layers of perforated and channelled foams. This means it’s easier to vent heat, which doesn’t allow it to retain heat as it might otherwise. As a result, you’ll feel cooler with more airflow throughout the mattress.

The top layers of foam contain hundreds of tiny holes that move heat and moisture away from you. Meanwhile, the zoned transition layer uses grooves to move heat away from you, introducing cooler air to the core of the mattress. Additionally, the hybrid coils provide more breathability overall. If you occasionally find yourself too hot at night, this mattress can be a good option for you.

Edge Support

Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress Edge Support

Do you like to sit on the edge of the bed in the morning? If you like to take a minute before you take on the day, you may notice that your mattress sinks or sags at the edges of the mattress. This sliding feeling can be uncomfortable. This is especially true if you sleep at the edges of the mattress, where you might lose support. Most memory foam mattresses have this problem, and some hybrids are hardly better. However, the Casper Nova Hybrid uses a layer of firm edge support foam to provide comfort from one edge of the mattress to the other.

This firm edge allows for some bolstered support. However, the plush surface of the mattress still allows you to sink a little before you reach the stronger support. You might sink a little, but this mattress still offers better support than most all-foam mattresses in Canada.

Ease of Movement

Usually, foam mattresses (especially softer foam mattresses) will sink under your weight. Memory foam reacts to body heat, which can sometimes make you feel as though you’re stuck in the mattress. This can make movement difficult for those who move around a lot during the night. The Casper Nova Hybrid is a softer mattress with exceptional pressure relief. As a result, it offers a memory foam ‘hug’.

This mattress is a little more responsive than other soft mattresses, so you’ll get a little more ease of movement throughout. However, heavier sleepers or those who move around a lot may need a mattress with a little more bounce.

Pricing

The Casper Nova Hybrid is an expensive mattress. This model might be outside of most Canadians’ budgets, but it also offers great value for its elevated price. Shipping

Casper ships all of its mattresses, including the Casper Nova Hybrid, free throughout Canada using UPS. This applies to most of Canada, though there are some remote areas that require a nominal shipping fee. The following areas require additional shipping fees, which can be discussed with Casper’s customer service team before you make a purchase.

  • Yukon
  • Northwest
  • Nunavut
  • Locations in Northern Canada

If you are unsure if your address requires additional shipping, you can always contact Casper to find out if a fee might be required.

You can also order in-home delivery and setup, a service Casper provides to most locations. This service is around $249. Professionals will complete the setup of your new mattress and haul the old one away. Orders with in-home delivery and setup may require up to 2 weeks to arrange, and you must be home when your mattress arrives.

Standard orders that do not include this service should arrive between 3 and 9 business days.

Sleep Trial and Returns

All of Casper’s mattresses include a 100-night sleep trial. This trial begins when you receive your mattress. During this time, you can decide if the mattress is right for you. If you don’t like it or have different needs, you can return your mattress for a full refund of the purchase price.

Like most mattress companies, Casper requires that you try the mattress for a short period to allow your body to get used to it. It takes about 30 days to adjust to a new mattress, so Casper asks that you wait at least this long in order to give the mattress a fair chance. If you don’t like it after the first 30 nights, you can initiate a return with Casper.

Once Casper receives your request, they will schedule a pick-up with their preferred courier to retrieve the mattress. The mattress should be in a like-new condition, so you should use a mattress protector during your trial period.

When your return is processed and confirmed, Casper will begin the refund process. Your full refund is processed within 5 business days and can take 3 to 10 business days to show up on your original payment method.

Warranty

The Casper Nova Hybrid mattress features a 10-year limited mattress warranty. For the first 10 years you own the mattress, manufacturing defects are covered by this warranty. Defects covered by this warranty include:

  • Visible indents of more than 1″ deep, which are not caused by improper use
  • Physical flaws or defects that cause splitting, cracking or separating in the foam layers
  • Zipper defects and issues with the zipper assembly

On the other hand, the Casper warranty will not cover normal softening over time, damage caused by improper use, care, an incompatible foundation, or comfort preferences.

If the issues with your mattress fall under the coverage of this warranty, you can begin a claim on Casper’s website. You will need evidence of the defects, photos of the effective areas, and the original date of your order. Casper might also ask for proof of purchase in some circumstances.

Casper may repair or replace your mattress at their discretion. It’s completely free for you, as Casper will pay for all return shipping costs for your mattress. If you’d like, you can request a mattress ‘upgrade’. If you want a more expensive mattress, you can pay the difference between the original price you paid for your mattress and the one you want. Usually, your warranty term will not renew or restart when your mattress is repaired. When you upgrade your mattress, a new warranty term will begin for the new mattress.

Final Thoughts

The Casper Nova Hybrid mattress is a luxury mattress that excels in pressure relief and support. Two layers of zoned foam and a layer of hybrid coils make it great for those who need a little extra help with lumbar support, while layers of plush foam help keep you comfortable. Perforated foam increases airflow and reduces heat, too. Together, this mattress offers some great benefits, along with a unique construction that you won’t find anywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions

While Casper is an American company, all mattresses sold within Canada are created at Casper’s Canadian facilities. The materials may not be sourced from within Canada, but the mattress is assembled domestically. They also ship from Canadian locations, so you’ll receive your mattress quickly.

The Casper Nova Hybrid isn’t a lightweight mattress. The Twin XL size weighs 54 lbs, while the California King size weighs about 110 lbs. The mattresses weigh a bit more when compressed into a box, so you might need help lifting your mattress onto the frame when it arrives.

No, the cover on the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress is not removable. We recommend using a mattress protector to keep your mattress clean. You can spot clean the mattress using mild soap and water if it becomes stained, but you should keep the mattress clean if you plan on utilizing the sleep trial or warranty.

You should replace your mattress every 10 years or so. To ensure that your mattress lasts at least this long, you should make sure it is used on a compatible foundation. No matter which compatible foundation you choose, you should always keep your mattress off the floor to reduce damage, mould, and sagging.

Like most modern mattresses (especially hybrid models), the Casper Nova Hybrid is not made to be flipped. It’s layered to provide the best experience on the top of the mattress. Instead, you can rotate your mattress 180 degrees every 3 months or so to reduce natural sagging.
