It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Casper Original Pillow uses down-alternative microfibre fill to create a down-like softness without the use of animal products. This fill is extremely adaptive and fluffy, so it moves with you throughout the night but never feels too hard. This is, in part, due to the pillow-in-pillow design Casper uses here. An inner pillow features a firm, supportive fill. Meanwhile, an outer layer of softness helps relieve pressure and keep you comfortable throughout the night.

The cover of this pillow is also interesting. The 100% cotton uses a percale weave. This 1-over-1-under weave produces a softer, more breathable fabric than other options. The result is a pillow that keeps you cool throughout the night without losing any coziness. An adaptive surface means that the pillow changes with you. When you change positions, the pillow will adapt to your position to provide the best support possible.

This pillow is a medium or mid-loft model, which is ideal for those sleeping on their backs. However, the way it moves makes it suitable for most sleepers, barring side sleepers. Those who sleep on their sides require a taller pillow for a neutral spinal position, and this pillow doesn’t offer a high enough loft to accomplish that. Regardless, this pillow is easy to care for and gets better each time you fluff it. You can throw the entire pillow (including the insert) into the washing machine when it’s time to refresh.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

Casper’s Down Pillow uses sustainably and ethically-sourced Canadian white duck down and feathers. This pillow is certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), so you know that they use only the best materials at the highest standard. This pillow uses a five-chamber support design to help keep your head and neck elevated. This system adapts easily to any position, so you will stay supported no matter how you sleep or how you move around throughout the night. The outer chambers use a blend of 80% white duck down and 20% feathers. Meanwhile, the inner chambers use a firmer blend of 60% white duck down and 40% feathers.

Together, these chambers shift the fill around to adapt to the way you sleep. No matter where you start or where you end up, you’ll get luxuriously soft comfort throughout the night. This high-quality down is airy and breathable, but it can allow heat to build up if you sleep in the same position for long enough. Even so, this pillow offers some of the best responsive support we’ve seen.

When it’s time to wash your pillow, you can put both the insert and the cover into the washing machine. It’s possible to completely refresh your sleep surface this way. The fill inside won’t clump or redistribute during washing as long as you follow the provided care instructions.

Casper Hybrid Pillow

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Casper Hybrid Pillow offers a unique marshmallow feel, with foam on the outside and fibre on the inside for better support. If you’re tired of fluffing your pillow and want more consistent support, this is the pillow to choose. The outer foam creates a consistent shape and feel, while the support from the inner polyester fibre offers better support for your head and neck. The result is a soft pillow that form to your needs, even when you move around during the night.

The 3-layer construction of this pillow allows it to keep a unique feel no matters how you sleep. It also keeps the pillow from flattening over time. You won’t have to replace it as quickly as you would other pillows. The only drawback to the design is heat. While some Canadians might not experience any issues with heat build-up, the construction of this pillow can make it difficult to disperse heat throughout the night.

This is a great pillow for those who prefer better support and a soft feel. It’s perfect for those who move around throughout the night and need adaptable support that won’t wear down over time. However, those who sleep hot should find a pillow with better temperature control than the Casper Hybrid offers.

Casper Foam Pillow

It's Great For:

Considerations:

There are two different varieties of the Casper Foam Pillow available. You can choose the standard Low Loft version, which is designed to keep you aligned and comfortable. it features a unique feel that is both supportive and squishy, so you’ll get comfort and support from his pillow. However, you can also add Snow Technology. The Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology features HeatDelete Bands and unique phase-changing materials to keep you cooler throughout the night. These features neutralize heat immediately, ensuring that you pillow is always cool.

If you don’t often overheat during the night, the Snow Technology option may not be necessary. In fact, it might be better to purchase the original Low Loft version if this is the case. That’s because the cooling features here might work a little too well for those who are already comfortable without it.

Regardless, both versions of the Casper Foam pillow feature a lower loft and a layer of AirScape foam. This means that even the Low Loft version of this pillow uses some temperature control for those who are prone to overheating.

Pillow Construction

Casper Pillow Construction

Most of Casper’s pillows use a multi-layer construction model to offer the best blend of comfort and support for their chosen materials.

The Casper Original Pillow uses the unique pillow-in-pillow design pictured above. Here, an inner pillow filled with supportive microfibre is housed within a cover that is also filled with microfibre. However, the outer layer uses less fill to create a softer feel, which is adaptable to all sleep positions (even if you move around a lot throughout the night).

The Casper Down Pillow is constructed using five adaptive chambers of authentic duck down. These chambers allow the fill to shift without bunching or losing shape, meaning you’ll get better support when you change position. It’s wrapped in a cotton cover for comfort.

The Casper Hybrid uses yet another construction method. A layer of comfortable, soft foam surrounds a supportive core made of polyester fibre. The result is a pillow that is immediately comforting and offers strong support over time.

Finally, the Casper Foam Pillows use a similar construction with some key differences. The Low Loft version features a memory foam insert inside a polyester and spandex cover. This provides ease of movement and better support overall. The version of this pillow that uses Snow Technology is constructed with HeatDelete bands between the layers to eliminate and neutralize heat within the core of the pillow. Both models use perforated foam to promote better airflow overall.

Each pillow is constructed in a way that helps the materials shine. Each uses multiple layers of foam or fill to provide better comfort and support throughout the pillow.

Fill Type

The fill type of each pillow can quickly determine if it’s the right option for you. Each of the pillows on our list uses a slightly different type of fill or insert. The unique fill solutions help these pillows stand out among the other pillows available in Canada.

  • The Casper Original, for example, uses down alternative microfibre. This material is extremely adaptable without having to use genuine down or feathers. Microfibre is also cooler than authentic duck down. This fill allows the pillow to be fluffy without the use of animal products.
  • Casper’s Down Pillow, on the other hand, uses fluffy white duck down and feathers. This authentic down is ethically-sourced and certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The pillow is extremely fluffy and has a luxurious feel. It’s great at supporting your neck while you move around throughout the night.
  • The Casper Hybrid uses a blend of memory foam and polyester microfibre to create a unique marshmallow feel. An inner layer of microfibre provides dense support, while a softer memory foam exterior offers support and comfort.
  • Both models of the Casper Foam mattress use a unique memory foam blend (77% polyurethane foam and 23% viscoelastic polyurethane foam) to create a comforting, supportive feel. The elastic foam helps keep the pillow squishy and comfortable.

As you can see, each Casper pillow uses a different type of foam for different results. Don’t be afraid to try the pillow that sounds like it might work for you. You might be surprised at how different they feel!

Cover Materials

Even if you use a pillowcase (and we recommend that you do), the cover of the pillow is the part you’ll be interacting with the most. Choosing a pillow that feels right on the surface is important.

The Casper Pillows we are reviewing here have a unique blend of cover materials. The Casper Original and Casper Down pillows both feature a 100% cotton cover. For the Casper Original, that cover has a percale weave. Percale is an open weave that allows for better airflow and reduce temperature build-up throughout the night. The 100% cotton cover on the Casper Down pillow feels soft and smooth to the touch, too.

The Casper Hybrid Pillow, on the other hand, uses a 92% cotton cover. The remaining 8% of the blend is spandex. This helps with the Hybrid’s adaptability, allowing for a unique stretch to accommodate the marshmallow texture of the pillow. This blend is smooth and glides easily under your fingers and your face.

On the other hand, both models of the Casper Foam pillow use a blend of 88% polyester and 12% spandex for their covers. This material feels silkier than the cotton options, and more spandex leads to better stretching and adaptability. If you aren’t bothered by synthetic fibres, this option can work great for you.

Available Sizes

Casper Pillows are available in two sizes. All of the models featured here can be purchased in a Standard Size and a King Size. King-sized pillows are ideal for larger mattresses because they are usually wider, leaving less open space at the head of the bed.

Whichever option you choose for your Casper Pillows, remember to choose pillowcases that match the size. Each pillow has set dimensions and a gusset that ranges from 1.25″ and 2″ depending on the model. Because most pillowcases don’t offer a gusset, make sure to factor this side into the dimensions of the pillowcase.

Temperature Control

Casper Pillow Temperature Control

Temperature control isn’t as important when it comes to pillows. Though pillows can determine how warm you get, most of the issues begin with your bed sheets and the mattress you choose. Still, a cooler pillow can help you relax, particularly if you sleep extremely hot. Casper doesn’t have a standardized temperature control policy, as each of their pillows offer different levels of heat reduction.

The best temperature control comes from the Casper Foam Pillow with Snow Technology. This model, pictured above, features AirScape perforated foam, as well as phase-changing material and HeatDelete Bands. These features keep heat at bay by neutralizing it, moving it away from you as you sleep, and ensuring that you sleep cooler for up to 12 hours at a time.

The Casper Foam Low Loft model features the same perforated AirScape foam to promote better airflow and less heat retention. The Casper Original features a cotton percale cover that is woven specifically to reduce heat. However, both the Casper Down and Casper Hybrid options are geared for those who sleep hot. They don’t use any cooling technologies to reduce overheating.

Adjustment and Loft

Casper Adjustment and Loft

Unlike other Canadian sleep companies, Casper doesn’t offer adjustable pillows. Each pillow is available in a specific loft, which means that they are suitable for certain sleepers. When it comes to loft:

  • Casper Original: Medium
  • Casper Down: Medium
  • Casper Hybrid: Medium
  • Casper Foam: Low

Though most of these pillows are medium-loft, they can be suitable for most sleeping positions. As we discussed earlier in our Casper Pillow review, the construction of these pillows allows the fill to shift around to accommodate whatever position you move to. However, the Casper Foam models should be used by stomach and back sleepers, as side sleepers may find that they aren’t tall enough to be properly supportive.

Casper offers free shipping and returns within the US and Canada. Most areas are covered by free shipping, but you will have to pay for shipping to more remote areas. While Casper doesn’t promise any specific delivery time, pillows ordered in Canada are shipped from Canada. You can expect reasonable delivery within most territories.

Sleep Trial and Returns

Casper offers a 30-night sleep trial for all of their bedding and sleep accessories. This extends to pillows, sheets, nightlights, pet beds, and bed frames. During this sleep trial, you can return the product for a full refund if it doesn’t work for you. Other products, like Casper’s selection of mattresses, have longer trials. It varies depending on the product you purchase.

If you think that your pillow might fall into the warranty within 1 year from your purchase, you need to initiate a warranty claim through Casper’s customer service line or website. You must return the pillow to Casper for inspection. If your pillow is found to fall within warranty terms, you rpillow will be repaired or replaced and returned to you.

The cost of shipping pillows back and forth during warranty claims falls on Casper, so you won’t have to pay for a warranty return or the shipping costs of a new or repaired pillow.

Final Thoughts

Through its many different pillow offerings, Casper provides options for anyone. You can choose the fill and feel you prefer without going too far to find it. Whether you sleep hot or need extra neck support, Casper offers a pillow for that. The lack of variation when it comes to loft makes them a little less versatile, but many Canadians can find a Casper pillow that works for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sleep experts recommend replacing your pillow every 1 to 3 years on average, but this is just a rough estimate.  As soon as you begin to feel a lack of support from your pillow, it’s time to replace it. The Casper Original Pillow may last longer than this.

Every Casper pillow features a washable cover. To keep your pillow clean, you should remove the cover and follow the care instructions. Some of the pillows, such as the Casper Original, allow you to wash the insert as well. Make sure to follow the care instructions that came with your Casper pillow.

Casper engineered pillows that are suited for most sleepers. Side sleepers should choose a firmer pillow with a higher loft, while stomach sleepers need a soft, low-loft pillow. However, you should try different pillows to find the option that is comfortable for you.

Casper’s down pillows are certified by the RDS (Responsible Down Standard). All foam pillows and pillow covers are certified by both CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX Standard 100.  These certifications are perfect optiosn for those who want to use a responsible, high-quality pillow.

Casper pillows might be made in Canada, but they are usually made throughout the US and in some Canadian plants. Casper is a North American company that ships throughout both countries, so there is no guarantee that your pillows will be Canadian-made. However, most of the pillows sold in Canada come from Canadian warehouses, so your pillow will arrive quickly.
