Simba is an eco-conscious company based in the UK. Though it’s based in the UK, all of the mattresses sold in Canada are made in factories that are closer to home. Their mattress lineup includes some of the best technologies we’ve seen in eco-conscious hybrids, including proprietary foams and micro-coils. There’s an option here for each Canadian due to the thoughtful construction and effective performance of each layer of each mattress. Here, we’ll look at four of Simba’s most popular mattresses to give you a good idea for where to start.

Should You Buy a Simba Mattress?

Simba has online stores based in the UK as well as France, Spain & Canada. Though these mattresses are made in Canada, Simba is not a Canadian company. However, we believe Simba mattresses are worth another look. These mattresses use a unique blend of proprietary materials, with conical-shaped springs that rival any of the best hybrid mattresses in Canada.

There are four different mattresses in the Simba mattress lineup. Each offers a different experience, especially when it comes to support and firmness. We’re sure that there is a Simba mattress for you! Below, we’ll go over all the ways these mattresses are different from one another, as well as areas where they all excel. If you’re unsure about your Simba mattress choice, you’ll have a 100-night risk-free trial from the date your mattress arrives to see if it’s right for you.

Considerations:

Simba’s Hybrid 1500 Mattress is an eco-conscious option that helps you sleep great while protecting the environment. As a whole, Simba is an eco-conscious company, but their commitment really shines in this mattress and the rest of their line-up. This mattress is 100% recyclable, with carbon-neutral delivery. The support layer is made with a clean mattress foam that reduces the use of chemicals and pollutants in the foam-making process.

As a result, every part of this mattress is eco-conscious and better for the planet than other memory foam mattresses. You’ll sleep easier knowing that your mattress isn’t harming the environment. On top of its environmental goals, Simba is dedicated to providing comfortable sleep night after night.

The cover is a hypoallergenic knit material that helps reduce bacteria and allergens. It’s extremely soft and cozy, but it also helps reduce heat build-up right at the top of the mattress. The next layer is Simba’s proprietary open-cell Simbatex. This graphite-infused foam relieves uncomfortable pressure points while reducing heat. It helps neutralize heat altogether. The middle layer of conical micro-coils helps with airflow, but contours to your body so you get the support you need. No matter how you sleep, this layer helps you get comfortable.

A perimeter layer of edge support foam keeps you comfortable even if you sleep at the edges of the mattress. Finally, a zoned support base uses five different zones to provide a soft, pressure-relieving surface for your shoulders with strong support for your back and hips. This mattress keeps you aligned and comfortable no matter what.

This mattress uses 1,500 conical coils in the hybrid layer and is about 10″ thick. It’s the smallest and most inexpensive option that Simba offers. This mattress works to keep you aligned and comfortable without any additional heat thanks to the proprietary materials and clever construction.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

Next in the lineup of Simba’s sustainable mattresses is the Hybrid 2500. This mattress was the original mattress that Simba created, and it helped put them on the map as a global brand. This option takes all of the comforts of the Simba 1500 and elevates the experience. It’s a little softer, with an additional layer of comforting support foam to help reduce pressure and sagging to the edge of the mattress. Though this mattress is slightly softer than the Simba 1500, it’s still well-suited for side and back sleepers.

This mattress features up to 2,5000 conical pocket springs. This increased spring count allows the mattress to cradle your body with more accuracy and personalized comfort than the first model on our list. The knitted cover is 100% hypoallergenic, and the mattress is safe for those with latex allergies. All of the layers of this mattress use different types of memory foam. Most of the foams used here are created using Simba’s proprietary methods.

The Simbatex memory foam layer, for example, is a unique open-cell foam infused with graphite. The zoned support base is made without harmful metals, dyes, and chemicals that may damage the environment. It’s eco-conscious, making it the perfect choice for Canadians who are concerned about the environment. All layers of foam are CertiPUR-US certified, so you know you’re only getting the best.

Among hybrid mattresses, this option really stands out. That’s because it doesn’t use a full-sized coil layer for support. Instead, the support layer is made with zoned foam. A layer of micro-coils helps provide additional airflow, comfort, and motion isolation. The smaller size helps makes them comfortable without being invasive, a touchstone for this mattress and for Simba’s mattresses in general.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Simba 5000 Mattress (or Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex Mattress) takes all of the best features of Simba’s previous mattresses and elevates their design to the max. This mattress features all of the benefits of the other mattresses we’ve seen so far, with a few additions that place it above and beyond its peers.

This mattress uses a total of seven layers to produce superior support, airflow, and restorative properties for great sleep. Like the other mattresses, this option features a hypoallergenic cover that is breathable and cool. However, the first layer of this mattress is actually a layer of hypoallergenic wool. This wool helps regulate temperature, wicking away moisture and leaving you feeling cool and comfortable throughout the night. If you sleep in cooler climates, this wool layer might be able to help you stay warm, too.

Below that, you’ll find Simba’s proprietary Simbatex open-cell graphite-infused foam. Instead of a single layer of 2,500 Aerocoil springs, the Simba 5000 uses two layers. This means there are up to 5,000 coils in the middle of this mattress. This can help reduce strain and pressure by providing support right where you need it. This mattress uses the same high-quality zoned support foam and edge-to-edge support foam and perimeter as the other Simba mattresses.

Additional support, comfort, and heat regulation make this one of the best mattresses in Canada. It’s certainly the top-of-the-line when it comes to Simba mattresses. At 14″ deep and extremely plush, this mattress is ideal for most who prefer a softer sleep surface.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

All of Simba’s mattresses are made to be more eco-conscious. However, none do this quite as well as the Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress. This option features multiple green features that help reduce environmental impact, so you can sleep easier knowing that you are doing the right thing. Plus, this mattress takes a full step away from the construction and materials used in Simba’s standard mattress lineup. We’ve seen how they operate, so now it’s time to dive into the Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress.

This mattress uses six layers of organic materials, including recycled fibres, GOTS and GOLS-certified materials, and more.  The organic cotton cover is cool and comfortable, while a layer of breathable Simba Renew fibres creates a plush top surface for the mattress. This layer is anti-allergenic and helps with airflow, but it’s also soft and comfortable.

Below is a layer of organic latex. This perforated latex is all-natural and helps increase breathability and responsiveness. While the other Simba mattresses use memory foam components, this mattress uses latex. This means it’s easier to move around on the surface of this mattress when compared with other options.

Next are two layers of supportive coils. First, Simba’s proprietary conical springs help provide contoured support and balanced. A layer of more traditional pocket springs (up to 1,000 of them) uses 5 comfort zones to offer stronger support or gentler cradling where needed. All of this is wrapped in a breathable 3D mesh that helps cool you off as you sleep.

With recycled materials and certified layers, this mattress has less environmental impact than the other mattresses in our Simba mattress review. If you want to sleep easier knowing you aren’t harming the environment, this is the option you should choose.

Simba uses a host of materials not usually found in bed in a box mattresses. These mattresses are unique and help provide some of the best sleep possible. Here is what each mattress is made of, and how each layer can help you sleep more comfortably.

Simba 1500 Hybrid Mattress

Simba 1500 Mattress Construction
  • Breathable Sleep Surface. A hypoallergenic hand-knitted cover uses 500g of super soft yarn fibres to keep you fresh, cool, and comfortable throughout the night.
  • Open-Cell Graphite Infused Simbatex. Graphite-infused foam blend reduces heat and increases airflow up to thirty times what memory foam can offer. This cool foam helps reduce pressure points, reduce motion, and keep you cooler than other mattresses.
  • Aerocoil Spring-Comfort Layer. A hybrid layer that uses up to 1,500 conical springs helps balance your body, reducing pressure and motion transfer throughout the mattress.
  • Simba-Pure Base. A supportive base of zoned foam helps adjust as you move, reducing pressure and sagging. The zones help provide alignment and comfort right where you need it.

Simba 2500 Hybrid Mattress

Simba 2500 Mattress Construction
  • Breathable Sleep Surface. A knitted cover helps reduce temperature, with increased breathability throughout. At the same time, the hypoallergenic properties of the cover reduce allergy interactions for Canadians who often have flare-ups.
  • Open-Cell Graphite Infused Simbatex. The top layer of graphite-infused foam helps cradle your body, removing pressure points and reducing airflow throughout the mattress.
  • Aerocoil Spring-Comfort Layer. A layer of supportive cone-shaped micro-coils compresses where you need them most, providing better support and minimizing pressure. This layer also reduces motion transfer, as the micro-coils are pocketed for reduced motion transfer.
  • Edge to Edge Simba-Pure Support. A layer of edge support foam provides the same level of support throughout the mattress. Whether you sleep near the edge of the mattress or in the centre of the bed, you won’t lose any support throughout.
  • Zoned Simba-Pure Base. A base of zoned support foam helps support your hips, back, and shoulders. It keeps you aligned and comfortable, adjusting as you move to provide the exact level of support you need.

Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex Mattress

Simba 5000 Mattress Construction
  • Breathable Sleep Surface. The cover of this mattress is hand-knitted and extremely soft. The fibres used in the cotton cover are completely hypoallergenic, so it’s great for those with allergies.
  • Natural Hypoallergenic Wool Layer. A layer of soft anti-allergenic wool creates a temperature-control barrier between you and the rest of your mattress. This layer is soft and comfortable, too.
  • Better Air Flow with Simbatex Foam Layer. Simbatex foam is an open-cell, graphite-infused foam that helps reduce temperature drastically. This foam layer is comforting like memory foam, but produces a lot more airflow and prevents heat build-up as you sleep.
  • Two Aerocoil Spring-Comfort Layers. Two layers of Aerocoil micro-springs create the centre of the mattress, totaling up to 5,000 coils in the largest mattress sizes. These cone-shaped coils help provide better support throughout the mattress, as well as increased airflow for the core of the mattress.
  • Edge to Edge Simba-Pure Support. A layer of Simba’s Edge Lift foam helps bolster the edges of the mattress, ensuring that you won’t slide off or sink at the edges.
  • Zoned Simba-Pure Base. The Zoned Simba-Pure base offers nine different support zones in the firm, supportive foam. This layer helps keep you aligned and balanced, reduces motion isolation, and increases comfort no matter where you sleep on the mattress.

Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress

Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress Construction
  • Breathable, GOTS Organic Cotton Cover. Cooling organic cotton cover increases airflow and reduces heat build-up at the very top of the mattress. This organic cotton is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard for ethical and eco-conscious practices from growth to production.
  • Natural Wool Layer. The top layer of this mattress is an extremely soft natural wool, which is hypoallergenic and helps regulate your body temperature. This layer relieves pressure, reduces higher temperatures, and eliminates the need for chemicals throughout the rest of the mattress.
  • SimbaTex Comfort Layer. An open-cell graphite-infused comfort layer improves motion isolation and breathability. It offers 30 times the airflow of standard memory foam, which helps with cooling through the surface of the mattress.
  • Two Aerocoil Spring Layers. A double Aerocoil spring layer contains up to 5,000 conical micro-springs. These coils add better body support, breathability, and even airflow throughout the rest of the mattress.
  • OEKO-TEX Talalay Natural Latex Layer. A transition layer of Natural Talalay Latex separates the coil layers. This layer is extremely breathable and adaptable. It offers consist comfort and support throughout the night, regardless of how you sleep.
  • Zoned SupportCore Base. A second layer of pocket springs uses 5 zones of targeted support, which supports your hips, back, and shoulders with the firmness you need to stay comfortable throughout the night.
  • Encapsulation Base Support Layer. The coil layer is enclosed with a thicker edge support foam to reduce sinking, sagging, and discomfort around the edges of the mattress.

Firmness

All of the Simba mattresses featured in our Simba mattress review are medium-firm. However, they provide different firmness levels. This can play a huge part in your decision to purchase a Simba mattress. Below, we’ll go over each mattress’s firmness level to help you choose the one that works best for you.

Simba 1500 Hybrid Mattress

7.5 on Firmness Scale

The Simba 1500 is the smallest mattress in our Simba mattress review, but it has the firmest feel of all of them. This is because it uses fewer comfort layers and different types of support foam to create a firmer feel that is great for those who suffer from back pain. This mattress offers well-balanced support for those who prefer firmer mattresses.

This mattress is still considered medium firm in feel, but it is very close to a ‘firm’ rating. Heavier side sleepers and back sleepers will appreciate the firmness of this mattress.

Simba 2500 Hybrid Mattress

7 on Firmness Scale

The Simba 2500 mattress features a softer feel than the Simba 1500. It’s still on the firmer side of medium firm when it comes to feel, but it offers additional comfort with the addition of a full support foam layer. The zoned support base also helps create a softer feel, with strategically-placed cave-in points to create better pressure relief overall.

Like the Simba 1500, this mattress is best for those who sleep on their sides and backs. The firm support is welcome for those who need a little extra help, especially around the hips, lower back, and shoulders.

Simba 5000 Pro Flex Hybrid Mattress

6 on Firmness Scale

Simba’s 5000 mattress is the softest option featured in our Simba mattress review. This mattress features a hypoallergenic wool layer for increased pillowy comfort at the top of the mattress, as well as a dual layer of micro-coils for customized support. Together, these features help this mattress feel plush when compared to the firmer options offered by Simba.

The strong zoned support and plush top section make the Simba 5000 mattress perfect for stomach sleepers and side sleepers. If you need a softer option, this mattress does the trick.

Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress

6.5 on Firmness Scale

The Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress features layers of organic latex, anti-allergenic fibres, and two types of spring support bases. It’s a medium-firm mattress with a plush feel from the top layers. The organic design of this mattress helps the layers of comforting foam and fibres relieve pressure.

This medium-firm mattress is great for those who prefer medium mattresses, or those who don’t want a mattress that is too firm. It’s great for side sleepers due to the zoned support from the coil layers.

Motion Isolation

Are you tired of waking up when your partner tosses and turns? Do you want to stay asleep when they get out of bed in the morning? If so, you might want to consider a mattress with better motion isolation. Some mattresses, particularly traditional innerspring models, allowed the movement to transfer right across the coils. Because of the connected nature of the coils, your partner could feel every movement from your side of the bed, even if you were trying not to wake them.

Most mattresses on the Canadian market today offer some type of motion isolation benefit, especially since moving away from the innerspring mattress. Some are still better at neutralizing motion than others, though.

All four of the Simba mattresses we’re covering here offer moderate motion isolation. You’ll still feel movement from the other side of the bed with these mattresses, though most motion stops before it travels to the other side of the bed. Of the mattresses here, the Simba 2500 and 5000 offer the best motion isolation due to the zoned support core. The base layer in these mattresses is different from the other options, and it helps trap motion a little better than the other models.

If you’re looking for a mattress based on motion-isolating properties, here are the rankings for these four mattresses (starting with the highest level of motion isolation):

  1. Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex Mattress
  2. Simba Hybrid 2500 Mattress
  3. Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress
  4. Simba Hybrid 1500 Mattress

Pressure Relief

Simba Mattresses Pressure Relief

As you sleep, you will sometimes develop uncomfortable pressure points where you touch the mattress. These pressure points can cause you to wake up or toss and turn to find a more comfortable sleeping position. Mattresses with soft, plush top layers can help reduce pressure and keep you comfortable throughout the night, even if you sleep in one position.

All of Simba’s mattresses offer great pressure relief. This is partly due to the micro-coils in the centre of each mattress. This layer helps provide support right where you need it without the harsh feel of standard springs. Above, layers of Simbatex open-cell foam cradle your body. The Simba Hybrid Organic mattress uses a layer of perforated memory foam to relieve pressure and keep you feeling comfortable throughout the night.

Any of these mattresses can provide great pressure relief no matter how you sleep. Due to the extra layers of wool or fibre, the Simba Hybrid Organic and Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex mattresses are the best at relieving pressure. However, the Simba 1500 and Simba 2500 mattresses also keep you comfortable without forming pressure points.

Temperature Control

Simba Mattresses Temperature Control

If you often wake up sweaty and uncomfortable, you aren’t alone. Many Canadians overheat during the night, leaving them to wake up drenched in sweat and unable to go back to sleep. Your mattress might be one of the reasons you get too hot at night, so choosing a cooling mattress might be able to help. If you use a cooler mattress in combination with cooling pillows and cooling sheets, you’ll probably have a much more relaxing sleep overall.

Thankfully, all four of the Simba mattresses we are looking at today sleep extremely cool. While some mattresses on the Canadian market still retain some heat throughout the night, Simba does everything it can to reduce temperature and promote better airflow throughout. Their Simbatex open-cell foam layers work to neutralize heat entirely. The graphite-infused foam draws heat away from you so it doesn’t build up. The micro-coil layers reduce the temperature by moving cooler air through the mattress, so you don’t overheat.

The Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex mattress is the coolest option Simba offers. A layer of temperature-regulating wool helps the open-cell foam reduce temperature throughout the mattress, leaving you cool and dry all night long. The Simba Hybrid Organic mattress is close behind, with a layer of perforated latex that won’t retain heat like memory foam. This doesn’t mean the Simba 1500 and Simba 2500 sleep hot, though! They use the same technologies to help you sleep cool.

Here’s a ranking of these four mattresses, starting with the coolest option:

  1. Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex Mattress
  2. Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress
  3. Simba Hybrid 1500 Mattress
  4. Simba Hybrid 2500 Mattress

Edge Support

Do you often sleep near the edge of the bed? Do you sit at the edge to get your bearings in the morning? If so, you may notice that some mattresses sag and slip at the edges, creating an uncomfortable feeling that makes it difficult to rest there. You’ll often lose support when it comes to the edge of the mattress, making it difficult to get comfortable if you gravitate towards the edges.

Thankfully, some mattresses now use edge support foams and perimeter layers to reduce sinking or sagging at the edges. Simba’s mattresses, on the other hand, use perimeters made with Simba-Pure support foam. They call the installation and use of these perimeters Edge Lift Technology, which normalizes support across all layers of the mattress.

When it comes to edge support, Simba’s main lineup of mattresses (Simba 1500, Simba 2500, and Simba 5000) all use this technology. The Simba Hybrid Organic mattress lacks a little in this area, as it does not use Edge Lift Technology. If edge support is the deciding factor for you, the Simba Hybrid Organic mattress would not be the right option for you. The other three mattresses in our Simba mattress review offer superior edge support that reduces sagging across the edge of the mattress.

Ease of Movement

Traditional memory foam mattresses can leave you feeling stuck, with a quicksand feeling that is unique to memory foam. It happens because of the way that memory foam works. Memory foam compresses when it warms up. As you sleep and generate heat, the memory foam compresses to provide great support and pressure relief. However, it can also create the memory foam ‘hug’ feeling, making it difficult to move around.

Those who move around often need a mattress that provides better ease of movement. This is true for combination sleepers, too – since they move around a lot throughout the night, a mattress that won’t trap them is ideal.

Simba’s line of mattresses varies when it comes to ease of movement. The Simba Hybrid Organic mattress offers the best movement since it uses a layer of latex instead of memory foam. The Simba 1500 and 2500, on the other hand, use open-cell memory foam to cradle your body. The Simba 5000 uses a layer of wool on top of the memory foam, which may dampen the effect of the memory foam ‘hug’.

If you’re looking for ease of movement above other mattress features, here’s how these mattresses rank (starting with the easiest for movement):

  1. Simba Hybrid Organic Mattress
  2. Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex Mattress
  3. Simba Hybrid 2500 Mattress
  4. Simba Hybrid 1500 Mattress

Shipping

Simba offers free shipping to orders throughout Canada, though there are some restrictions.

Orders in the following areas will require a shipping surcharge of $120:

  • Northwest Territories
  • Yukon
  • Nunavut
  • Newfoundland
  • Labrador

Regardless of where you live, shipping should take 7 to 10 business days. You can track your order after shipping via the tracking number in your shipping confirmation email.

Note that your mattress will not arrive on weekends and that some remote areas cannot receive shipments. Make sure to contact the Simba customer service team if you are worried about your address receiving a shipment.

For mattresses, you can order a White Glove installation service. For a fee, a professional will set up your mattress in your home and remove your old mattress. You can choose this option at checkout and set up a time and date for your mattress delivery and installation service.

Sleep Trial and Returns

Every Simba mattress on our list features a 100-night sleep trial. This sleep trial works differently than it does with other mattress companies, though. The first few steps are the same. You’ll receive your mattress and be able to try it for the first 100 nights after your purchase. If you love it, you don’t need to do anything! If it isn’t the right option for you, you can contact customer service to let them know.

With most other mattress companies, you would get a full refund of your purchase price. Simba, on the other hand, offers an exchange for a different mattress at a small fee. But you aren’t limited to the four mattresses that Simba offers. Simba partners with a company called Sleep Country, which offers over 50 other mattresses through different manufacturers. If you don’t like your Simba mattress, you can exchange it for any of the other Sleep Country mattresses that are currently available for a nominal $50 exchange fee. If the mattress you choose is more expensive than the Simba you originally purchased you will need to cover the difference. They ask that you wait at least 2 weeks to decide that your mattress isn’t right for you and to begin the exchange process.

Simba does not offer returns outside of this policy unless the mattress arrives damaged. If your Simba mattress arrives with damage from shipping, you can contact them for full details about a return or exchange.

Warranty

All of the mattresses in our Simba mattress review offer a 10-year warranty. This covers manufacturing defects, including physical flaws and defects related to the cover of the mattress. This warranty will not apply if you:

  • Do not rotate the mattress once a month for the first 3 months you own it, then once every 3 to 6 months after that
  • Weigh over 250 pounds
  • Fail to use a proper bed frame

If you think that your mattress falls under this warranty, you’ll have to submit a self-assessment form on the website. This inspection includes multiple pictures of the mattress defects. You’ll need to show a measuring tape and a yardstick or other long, straight object so that the customer service team understands the extent of the damage.

Once you have the pictures, you can call customer service to set up a time to complete the assessment. You’ll be given a login to the warranty website, where you can upload your pictures and talk with a customer service team member.

If your mattress fits under the warranty and your claim is approved, your mattress will be exchanged for a new mattress of the same model.

Final Thoughts

Simba uses a lot of great technology in their mattresses. These proprietary materials offer a sleep experience unlike any other, which makes these mattresses among the best in Canada. The four models in our Simba mattress review offer something for everyone, so you’re sure to find one that fits your unique sleep needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Simba mattress can last over 10 years. If you use the right type of foundation, rotate the mattress often, and take care of the mattress, it can last for a long time. The warranty for these Simba mattresses is 10 years, so it’s guaranteed to last at least that long.

Simba ships their mattresses throughout Canada, though there are some remote and rural areas where you may not be able to receive a shipment. Shipping is free to most locations, but there is a $120 shipping surcharge for delivery to the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland, and Labrador. Contact customer service to determine if you will have to pay a shipping charge.

We think you’ll love whichever Simba mattress you choose! If you don’t, you won’t receive a refund. Instead, you’ll be able to choose a mattress from Sleep Country’s catalogue of over 50 models to exchange your current mattress.

Like most new mattresses, Simba mattresses have an off-gassing odour that should go away shortly after setting up your mattress. The off-gasses aren’t harmful, but some sensitive Canadians might have some issues with them. Make sure to keep your mattress in a well-ventilated room if the off-gassing bothers you.

The 10-year Simba mattress warranty covers manufacturing defects, physical flaws, and defects on the cover of the mattress. However, the warranty is void if you weigh over 250 pounds, don’t use a proper foundation, and fail to rotate the mattress. Make sure to follow these rules to ensure that your mattress warranty remains intact.

The Simba Hybrid 5000 Pro Flex Mattress is the best option on our list for temperature control. It uses wool and open-cell foam to keep you cool. Still, the other Simba mattresses on our list offer great temperature control as well.
