Hush is one of Canada’s newest premier bedding companies. Their first product, a weighted blanket, put them on the map for sleep accessories. The mattress models they offer are a direct result of the popularity of this blanket. They offer top-of-the-line materials to help eliminate sleep issues, including pressure and overheating. You can sleep more comfortably on either of Hush’s mattress models. In our Hush Mattress review, we’ll take a look at what makes these mattresses some of the best options in Canada.

Should You Buy Hush Mattresses?

Hush mattresses are luxurious, high-quality options that help relieve any of the issues you might have with sleep. Both mattresses are hybrids that keep you cool and well-supported throughout the night. Though they seem similar there is a slight difference between them that can make a huge difference for some sleepers. It’s worth giving them a try, especially after we help you identify which option is best for you. You can always take advantage of the 100-night risk-free sleep trial that comes with the mattresses to see if it works for you.

Here we’ll look at both of the mattresses in our Hush Mattress review. We’ll look at these features in more detail below.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Hush Iced Hybrid Mattress is a low-profile hybrid with smaller coils and better cooling capabilities. This mattress is ideal for those who sleep hot, mainly due to the layers of Super Elate foam and bamboo viscose foam to help pull heat away from you. The cooling foams at the top of the mattress support better pressure relief, too. Meanwhile, compact coils provide great support from beneath.

The 4″ honeycomb coils are smaller than standard pocket coils. However, they still help isolate motion and reduce sagging throughout the mattress. Even though this is a low-profile mattress, a layer of support foam at the bottom of the bed helps reduce any loss of support that may occur over time in other mattresses.

This mattress is medium in feel, which is ideal for side sleepers and some stomach sleepers. It’s available in five standard mattress sizes but does not come in a California King-sized version. This mattress excels in pressure relief and cooling, as well as stronger support for those who don’t suffer from back pain. Hush’s proprietary graphite-infused Super Elate foam is also antibacterial, so you can rest knowing that this mattress is clean, fresh, and allergen-free.

You’ll also experience less motion transfer from this mattress. The motion-isolating effects of the foam layers and the honeycomb pocket coils mean you won’t feel larger movements from the other side of the bed. If you are a light sleeper, this may mean you can sleep without interruption.

Considerations:

The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress is a luxury pillow-top with multiple layers of cooling materials. This mattress is cold to the touch, but it also helps relieve pressure and keeps you well-supported throughout the night. Thick-gauge pocket coils are zoned to provide support right where you need it, helping eliminate back pain and keep you comfortable no matter how you sleep.

The plush pillow-top section contains layers of high-tech foams, including phase-changing materials, gel foams, and graphite-infused foams. All of these layers help eliminate and disperse heat. The pillow-top is also supported by a pillow-top separator, a layer that is rarely found in other Canadian mattresses. This top layer is comfortable enough to satisfy stomach sleepers while providing strong support from the coils below.

The main section of the mattress includes thick pocket coils. Firmer coils in the middle of the mattress keep your lumbar and hips well-supported, while softer coils around your shoulders prevent uncomfortable pressure points. This is a medium-firm mattress, which makes it ideal for most sleepers (especially those who suffer from back pain).

This mattress is available in all six standard mattress sizes, including California King. It offers better edge support, pressure relief, and cooling features than most mattresses on the Canadian market, making it a great option for most Canadians.

Mattress Construction

Both of Hush’s mattresses use a blend of proprietary and proven materials. Both are hybrid models with pocket coil support layers, though the type of coils in each mattress is different. Here is how each of the Hush mattresses are constructed.

Hush Iced Hybrid Mattress

Hush Iced Hybrid Construction
  1. Removable Cover. The cover on the Hush Iced Hybrid Mattress features a hidden zipper, allowing it to be removed and washed whenever you need to refresh your bed.
  2. Bamboo Viscose Cooling Foam. A top layer of bamboo viscose cooling foam is extremely breathable. This material helps channel heat away from you throughout the night, moving it down to the foam below. This layer also helps relieve pressure immediately, resulting in a more comfortable sleep overall.
  3. Super Elate Foam. Hush’s proprietary Super Elate foam is natural and antibacterial. It helps disperse heat immediately, using silver and copper infused within the foam. This layer is supportive, with great deep pressure relief as it wicks away heat to keep you cool.
  4. Honeycomb Pocket Coils. The honeycomb coils used in this mattress are shorter than standard Canadian steel coils. They are only about 4″ high, which is half the size of most other coils. They are extremely supportive and help isolate motion because they compress individually.
  5. Edge Support Encasement. A perimeter of firm edge support foam helps bolster the edges of the mattress, ensuring that you get the same great support from edge to edge. While other mattresses might sink or slide at the edge, the Hush Iced Hybrid bolsters the edges to prevent this feeling.
  6. Foam Support. A layer of high-density support foam under the coil layer helps prevent sagging over time. This layer aligns the rest of the mattress and ensures that it lasts a long time.

Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress

Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Construction
  1. Phase-Changing Pillow-Top. The comfortable, responsive pillow-top of the Hush Arctic Luxe mattress only allows you to reach a certain temperature. Excess heat is then filtered away through the cooling layers throughout the rest of the pillow top. This layer is extremely comfortable, providing the cloud-like feel that you expect from a luxury pillow-top mattress.
  2. Cooling Gel Memory Foam. Another layer of cooling gel memory foam in the pillow-top section reduces heat, preventing it from building up under you as you sleep. This layer features visco gel microbubbles, which help wick away moisture as well as extreme temperatures.
  3. Graphite Foam. A thin layer of graphite-infused foam helps absorb any remaining heat, keeping it away from you. It vents this heat down through the pillow-top separator so you sleep more peacefully throughout the night.
  4. Pillow-Top Separator. A separator cart keeps the pillow-top section well-supported and elevated out of the core of the mattress. This layer features vents across the bottom, allowing excess heat to escape.
  5. Transition Foam. A thin layer of transition foam between the pillow-top and mattress core helps relieve your deepest pressure points, reducing any pressure you may feel from the pocket coils. This layer is also great at reducing motion transfer, allowing you to sleep comfortably even when your partner is tossing and turning.
  6. 8″ Zoned Pocket Coils. A dense support layer of zoned pocket coils reduces strain and helps balance your body. Firmer coils in the middle of the mattress reduce hip and lumbar pain, while softer coils around your shoulders prevent harmful pressure points. These coils add strong support to the mattress.
  7. Edge Support Perimeter. Finally, a high-density foam perimeter helps reduce sinking and sagging at the edges of the mattress. This perimeter bolsters the edges and ensures you are well-supported, even if you sit or sleep at the edges of the bed.

Firmness

Hush Iced Hybrid Mattress

The Hush Iced Hybrid is a 6 on our firmness scale. This medium mattress is ideal for lighter sleepers, particularly those who don’t need strong support to balance their bodies. It’s a softer mattress that can be ideal for side sleepers and stomach sleepers, though it lacks a strong support system that stomach sleepers need to feel truly comfortable.

Further, this mattress is soft without being plush. It feels comfortable and responsive to sink into, but it doesn’t provide the cloud-like feeling you’d get from a plush-feeling mattress. This allows it to occupy a very niche space in the Canadian market.

Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress

7.5 on Firmness Scale

The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress is a 7.5 on our firmness scale, which makes it a medium-firm mattress. The other option presented in our Hush mattress review is softer but doesn’t provide the plush feel present in his mattress. The Arctic Luxe Hybrid offers a comforting pillow top that reduces pressure instantly, providing comfort to help you get to sleep easier. Strong support from the zoned coil layer below keeps you well-supported even through the cloud-like feel.

Because of the way this mattress is constructed, it’s one of the best options on the Canadian market for stomach sleepers. The strong support, especially through the middle of your body, is critical for stomach sleepers. This, paired with the plush pillow-top feel, gives this mattress an advantage over similar options.

Motion Isolation

Is your partner often restless? Do you often wake up when they get out of bed or turn over throughout the night? If you do, a mattress with better motion isolation is ideal. Mattresses with motion isolation stop any movement from transferring to the other side of the mattress. Foam layers and pocket coils all work to reduce the amount of motion that transfers across the mattress.

The Hush Iced Hybrid and the Hush Arctic Luxe are both great options if you need better motion isolation. The pocket coil design means that each coil compresses individually. This means that motion cannot travel between them. At the deepest level, both mattresses reduce motion and keep you asleep, even when your partner isn’t.

Pressure Relief

Hush Mattress Pressure Relief

Foam mattresses are great at relieving pressure. They eliminate pressure points that form where you touch the mattress, especially if you sleep in one position throughout the night. Of course, some mattresses are better at pressure relief than others.

The same is true when it comes to Hush’s mattress options. Their unique construction leads to some disparity when it comes to pressure relief. The Hush Iced Hybrid mattress offers great relief throughout both top layers, but the low profile means you’re closer to the coils in the support layer. Heavier Canadians may feel some pressure here, though it depends on how you sleep.

On the other hand, the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid provides amazing comfort and pressure relief due to the pillow-top layer. However, the strong support from the coils below can lead to some pressure, especially for lighter side sleepers.

Both mattresses are great at relieving pressure, but each has its own considerations when it comes to pressure relief. The results are positive overall, with some variations depending on your body type and how you sleep.

Temperature Control

Temperature control is another area where Hush’s mattresses excel. Do you often wake up sweaty and uncomfortable in the middle of the night? Tired of waking up because you’re too hot on your mattress? While cooling sheets and cooling pillows might help with these issues, your mattress is most likely to blame. If you want to sleep cooler and stay asleep throughout the night, you need a cooling mattress.

The mattresses in our Hush mattress review handle cooling a little differently, but both provide great temperature control. The Hush Iced Hybrid features layers of cooling bamboo viscose foam as well as its own proprietary Super Elate foam, which uses properties of silver and copper to reduce heat and provide antibacterial benefits.

On the other hand, the Arctic Luxe features layers of phase-changing material, gel foam, and graphite-infused foam to completely eliminate any heat that you feel throughout the night. Neither mattress will allow heat to build up under you while you sleep, but the Hush Arctic Luxe mattress sleeps a little cooler than the Hush Iced Hybrid.

Edge Support

If you like to sit on the edge of the bed in the morning, you may notice that your mattress sinks, sags, and slides at the edges. The lack of support throughout all foam mattresses is to blame. Most Canadian mattresses (and, indeed, most bed-in-a-box mattresses) sag a little at the edges, which can present a problem. This is even more of an issue if you sleep near the edge of the bed frequently. The loss of support might become uncomfortable during the night.

As a result, more mattresses are adding support foam to the edges of their mattresses. This foam helps reduce sagging and sinking around the perimeter of the bed, allowing better comfort and support in these areas.

Both of Hush’s mattress offer layers of thick, dense edge-support foam. These perimeters are situated around the pocket coil layer of each mattress, providing stronger support where the coils stop. Both mattresses excel in this area, so both will provide you with stellar edge support.

Ease of Movement

Hush Mattress Ease of Movement

Tired of feeling ‘stuck’ in your memory foam mattress? Memory foam can often create a ‘quicksand’ feeling, which makes it feel like you can’t move around easily on the surface of the mattress. Because memory foam reacts with your body heat, you can often sink too far into the mattress.

Both of Hush’s mattresses manage to avoid this issue. The Hush Iced Hybrid provides a layer of responsive foam at the top of the mattress, which won’t allow you to sink too far into the bed. Here, you’ll find a bounce that allows you to move around quite easily.

On the other hand, the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid is a little trickier. Layers of cooling foams and a pillow-top section provide great pressure relief and comfort. These layers aren’t as responsive as you may believe, meaning there is more sinking than some users prefer. If you move around a lot during the night, you might want to choose the Hush Iced Hybrid mattress instead.

Shipping

Hush ships all of its products for free throughout Canada. You can purchase shipping insurance at checkout if you wish, but it’s not required. Once your order is placed, it can take Hush up to 2 business days to create and ship your product. Within 5 to 7 business days, you should have your mattress at your door. Most mattresses arrive faster than the estimated shipping time.

If you intend to pre-order another product along with your in-stock mattresses, we recommend placing separate orders. In-stock items on the order will not ship until Hush can complete your order, which means waiting until your pre-ordered item is ready to ship. Using separate orders means you’ll get your mattress as soon as possible, while the other products you want will follow.

Sleep Trial and Returns

You can try either of the mattresses in our Hush mattress review for 100 nights after your purchase. During these first 100 nights, you can return the mattress for a full refund of your purchase price if you find that it isn’t for you. Hush requires you to wait at least 30 days after receiving your mattress to initiate a return. This is becuase it takes 30 nights for your body to completely adjust to a new mattress.

If you find that your mattress doesn’t suit your sleep style after those first 30 days, you can initiate a return by contacting the Hush customer service team. There is no return shipping cost to return mattresses. Hush will arrange for a courier to pick up your used mattresses and take them to a donation centre whenever possible.

After the mattress has been picked up (and after it is found to be in good condition, with no stains or damage), Hush will issue a refund back to your original payment method. It may take up to 14 days for a refund to be initiated, and it can take up to 5 additional business days for your returned funds to appear in your back account.

Warranty

Hush offers a 10-year warranty on both of its mattresses. This warranty covers structural defects caused by the workmanship and poor materials, as well as damages that should not occur during normal wear and tear. If your springs begin to pop up through the fabric or your foam begins to separate, Hush will repair or replace your mattress at no cost.

The warranty doesn’t cover customer damages caused by improper use. It doesn’t cover normal wear and tear or excessive staining or soiling. When you begin a warranty claim, the Hush customer care team will require pictures and order information in order to fulfill your claim. Make sure to provide everything they need to speed the process along. Hush will pay for the return of your mattress if they deem it necessary.

Hush will decide whether your mattress needs to be replaced or repaired at its discretion. Either way, no new warranty is issued. The warranty period will remain the same for your repaired mattress (or your new mattress) without any extensions on the original warranty period.

Final Thoughts

Either of Hush’s mattresses is a great investment in better sleep. Both have their advantages, so you should choose the option that works best for your sleeping style. However, you know that you’re getting a high-quality mattress made with the best materials regardless.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hush mattresses (and other bedding) are made in factories throughout Canada. Hush has factories in Calgary, Alberta, Toronto, and Ontario that help create these mattresses. They use Canadian materials where possible, and your mattress always arrives quickly because they ship from Canadian warehouses.

You should rotate your Hush mattress every 3 to 6 months, depending on your comfort levels. Turning the mattress a complete 180 degrees can help prevent body indents and provide a more comfortable sleeping experience. We do not recommend flipping the Hush Arctic Luxe Mattress, as it is constructed in a specific way to keep you cool and well-supported.

The Hush Arctic Luxe Mattress comes with a 10-year warranty. However, these mattresses can last a lot longer. They are built with durability and longevity in mind, so taking care of your mattress is essential.

While Hush says that your mattress should be ready in about an hour, we do recommend waiting at least 24 to 48 hours before sleeping on any new mattress. This allows it to fully expand and smooth out any wrinkles from the packaging process. This also allows the mattress to properly off-gas, which can be uncomfortable for some Canadians.

Because of the hypoallergenic, non-toxic materials used within the Hush mattress, you shouldn’t encounter any off-gassing odour after unboxing. However, every mattress has the possibility of a small odour associated with off-gassing from the manufacturing process. If there is an odour after your unbox your mattress, you should properly ventilate the area.
