Considerations:

The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress uses a combination of foam layers to relieve pressure, with coil support to reduce strain. Together, these materials create a mattress that is extremely supportive and comfortable, without any of the problems commonly found with foam-based mattresses. A soft, cozy antimicrobial cover creates the perfect place to sink into the mattress. Underneath, layers of soft foams reduce pressure expertly. You won’t wake up with uncomfortable pressure points when you sleep on this mattress.

Side sleepers are especially well-suited to this mattress. The zoned lumbar support from the coil layer keeps your spine aligned, producing more support under your hips and lower back. If you suffer from back pain, a mattress with this type of support can help you sleep more comfortably. A perimeter of edge support foam bolsters the edges of the mattress. If you sleep near the edge or like to sit at the edge of the bed, this firmer foam reduces sinking or sagging.

This Canadian-made mattress uses quality materials that are transparently sourced from domestic manufacturers. The Canadian steel coils used in the coil layer are double-tempered. The largest mattress sizes use 1200 coils to help keep you properly supported. All memory foam layers are made with CertiPUR-US-certified foams. Together, these materials are sustainable and sensible, allowing you to sleep easier on this mattress.

The Silk & Snow Hybrid also comes in a Plush version, which comes with multiple different layers to create a more comfortable mattress overall. Throughout the rest of our review, we’ll look at how the Plush version could change the mattress’s performance and highlight its unique construction.

Mattress Construction

The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress uses several layers of high-density, high-quality materials. The result is a supportive mattress that is suitable for most Canadians.

Medium Firm

  1. Antimicrobial Cover. Silk & Snow’s antimicrobial cover helps prevent the growth of bacteria, providing a fresher sleeping surface overall. The cover is soft and comfortable to the touch.
  2. Quilted Foam. A layer of high-quality memory foam is quilted directly into the cover, providing unparalleled plushness. The quilted channels help to reduce heat throughout the mattress, providing a way for heat to escape as you sleep.
  3. 2″ High-Density Memory Foam. A middle transition layer of high-density memory foam provides deeper pressure relief than the other layers. It helps reduce motion but keeps you comfortable, too.
  4. Zoned Lumbar Support. The centre of the coil layer uses firmer coils than the rest of the mattress, meaning you’ll get better support in your lower back and hips. This is absolutely essential for Canadians with any sort of back pain.
  5. Pocket Coil Base. The pocket coil base uses up to 1200 double-tempered pocket springs. These springs are individually wrapped to reduce motion transfer and provide better support and compression. While zoned lumbar support prevents strain, softer coils at the shoulders help reduce pressure points.
  6. Edge Support Perimeter. A firm perimeter of edge support helps reduce sagging and sinking at the edges of the mattress. If you sit or sleep near the edge, this perimeter can help keep you properly supported.

Plush

Silk & Snow Hybrid Plush Construction
  1. Antimicrobial Cover. The cover of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is an antimicrobial material, which prevents the growth of bacteria. This means that your sleep surface is always clean and fresh.
  2. Cooling Fabric. A layer of cooling fabric is infused right into the surface of the mattress. This fabric works hard to isolate heat and draw moisture away from you, reducing discomfort and temperatures as you sleep.
  3. Quilted Layer. A layer of high-quality quilted memory foam helps create a softer, plush sleep surface. This layer is cozier than other types of foam used throughout the mattress without creating additional heat.
  4. Deep Pressure Relief. The first layer of thick foam within the mattress is a 2″ layer of high-density memory foam. This layer offers deep pressure relief, working towards a more comfortable surface for the rest of the mattress.
  5. Transition Layer. A 2″ layer of high-density poly foam acts as a transition layer, lifting your body out of the coil layer below. This layer cushions deep pressure points and helps with perfect alignment.
  6. Pocket Coil Base. The zoned pocket coil base uses up to 1,200 8″ pocket coils to reduce strain, align your body, and provide ideal support. Firmer coils under your hips and lower back keep you comfortable.
  7. Firm Edge Support. An extra firm perimeter helps keep the edges from sinking when you sit near the edge of the bed.

Firmness

7 on Firmness Scale

The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is a medium-firm mattress. It comes in at about a 7 on the firmness scale, meaning it’s ideal for side sleepers and back sleepers. Stomach sleepers may find that the mattress is too firm for their liking. Combination sleepers will also love the feel of this mattress, as the firmer feel makes it easier to move around on the mattress.

This firmness is achieved using a combination of pocket coils and high-density memory foam. The mattress feels softer when you first lay down, and you quickly sink into the memory foam layers. The support from the zoned coil layer is unparalleled.

Most stomach sleepers should avoid this mattress. It might feel too firm and lacks the soft pillowy feel that stomach sleepers need.

6 on Firmness Scale

Meanwhile, the Plush version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid is more like a 6 on our firmness scale. It’s ideal for side sleepers and some stomach sleepers. Heavier sleepers are more likely to prefer this version of the mattress.

Motion Isolation

The coil layer in the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress helps reduce motion more than any other layer. That’s because the individually-wrapped pocket coils all react to motion individually. Motion won’t hop from one coil to another, so you’ll hardly feel any motion from the other side of the bed. Lighter sleepers who usually wake up when partners toss and turn or get out of bed will find that this mattress helps them stay asleep throughout the night.

While the coil layer does most of the work, the foam layers above help stop some motion in its tracks. The combination of both features is enough to reduce most disturbances from the other side of the mattress. This is true in both versions of the mattress, though the Plush version offers better motion isolation because it uses more plush foams that neutralize motion.

Pressure Relief

Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Pressure Relief

While the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress doesn’t feature a traditional pillow-top, it has pillow-top properties. The quilted foam attached to the cover helps reduce pressure and keep you balanced throughout the night. You’ll sink into the first layers of the mattress, which are made with cushioning foams to reduce pressure points.

The construction of this mattress helps reduce discomfort and balance your body across the sleeping surface. That means that it does everything it can to reduce pressure points, even down to the coil layer. Softer coils around your shoulders and knees reduce pressure and strain, while firmer coils throughout the middle of the mattress to keep you hips and lumbar neutral.

While the Medium Firm version of the mattress offers good pressure relief, the Plush version performs better here. The additional foam layers help reduce even deeper pressure points, so those who struggle to get comfortable may need the Plush version.

Temperature Control

The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress uses temperature-control foams to keep you cool all night long. The quilted design of the cover and the top foam layer creates channels for heat to escape. Meanwhile, the cooling gel foam in the middle layer helps trap heat and move it away from you. This means there’s less chance that heat will build up as you sleep.

The pocket coils in the support layer also help reduce temperature throughout the core of the mattress. Unlike all-foam mattresses, these coils allow for additional airflow to pass through the mattress. As a result, you’ll sleep cooler than you would on an all-foam mattress. However, this mattress still lacks any active cooling features that might make it a little more comfortable for those who sleep hot. If you generate a lot of heat as you sleep, you might need additional cooling features to feel truly comfortable.

This is especially true in the Plush version, which tends to run a bit hotter due to the extra materials. While the thin layer of cooling fabric at the top of the mattress goes a long way, it doesn’t fully isolate heat.

Edge Support

When it comes to edge support, the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress excels. A perimeter of firm edge support foam surrounds the coil layer, producing bolstered edges with more complete support. If you sit on the edge of the bed or tend to edge over as you sleep, this support perimeter can help reduce sinking and sagging. You’ll get the same level of support no matter where you sleep.

If you’re tired of your mattress sagging when you sit to put on your slippers in the morning, this firm support perimeter could be a great choice for you. Plus, this firm support around the edges of the mattress is present in both versions.

Ease of Movement

Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Ease of Movement

Though the surface of the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress uses quilted foam and cooling gel foam, it’s easier to move around on the surface. While traditional foam mattresses may create a ‘quicksand’ feeling that sucks you into the mattress, the high-density memory foam of the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress keeps you elevated out of the mattress. Those who move around a lot at night will appreciate the way this mattress feels.

The Plush option makes it a little more difficult to move. It has more sinkage than the standard medium-firm S&S Hybrid, so you may need a little extra effort to get going. That said, it shouldn’t be much. The high-density foam does a good job of keeping you lifted out of the mattress.

Shipping

All of Silk & Snow’s mattresses ship free to all Canadian provinces. If you live in one of Canada’s territories, you’ll be required to provide a nominal shipping fee to receive your mattress. That’s because shipping to remote locations can be difficult, and may require multiple couriers. If you aren’t sure if you’ll have to pay for shipping based on your location, you can always contact the Silk & Snow customer service team and ask about your exact location.

Silk & Snow may take up to 3 business days to process your order. Once your mattress is shipped, it can take between 2 and 9 business days for your mattress to arrive. Shipping times are based on location. Customers in Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec experience the shortest shipping times, and those in further territories have to wait a little longer.

Sleep Trial and Returns

When you purchase the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress, you’ll receive a 365-night sleep trial. For the first year after you receive your mattress, you can try it out to see if it’s a good fit for you. This gives you more than enough time to see how the mattress feels, especially because it usually takes 30 nights for your body to get used to a new mattress.

Because of this, Silk & Snow requests that you wait at least 30 days before initiating a return during your sleep trial. If you don’t love the mattress, you can initiate a return on the Silk & Snow website. The company will arrange for a charitable partner or recycling centre to pick up the mattress. This decision is based on what is available locally. Silk & Snow tries to find a charity to donate your used mattress to before they consider recycling.

Once your mattress has been picked up and verified, Silk & Snow usually issues a refund within 2 business days. There are no costs associated with returning your mattress, so you’ll get a full refund of the purchase price to the original payment method you used. It can take up to 14 business days for the refund to reach your financial institution.

Warranty

Silk & Snow’s mattresses come with a 15-year mattress warranty. This warranty covers defects caused by faulty workmanship or materials. The warranty is very specific about what it covers. You can find the complete warranty terms on the Silk & Snow website.

This warranty won’t cover comfort preferences outside of the 100-night sleep trial, improper use, and non-compliance with care instructions. If the mattress is stained or unsanitary, it won’t be covered by the warranty. If you don’t use a compatible foundation with the mattress, the warranty may be void.

Otherwise, the warranty covers the following issues:

  • Defects in the cover fabrics or the zipper
  • Physical flaws in the craftmanship that cause damage during regular use
  • Indents or sinking more than 1″ deep while using a compatible frame

If you believe that your mattress issues are covered by the warranty, you can begin a claim on the Silk & Snow website. You will be asked to provide detailed images of the defects, including clear measurements of any indents you are claiming under warranty. The customer service team will determine if your claim is valid or not.

If your warranty claim is approved, you will need to send your mattress back to Silk & Snow. The company will work with you to schedule a pick-up. Once the company receives your mattress, they will decide whether to repair or replace it. Either way, your original warranty period will not be extended. Your repairs or replacement mattress will be covered under the same warranty terms as your original mattress.
