Bloom Earth Mattress

Bloom Earth Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

Bloom Earth is one of Bloom’s mid-range mattress models. This option is medium-soft, making it ideal for those who prefer a softer sleeping experience with better pressure relief. This mattress is about 8” thick, with a lower profile that still delivers temperature control and support. Inside, you’ll find three layers of foam engineered to help you sleep better.

The cover is made of an antimicrobial fabric which helps reduce odours and prevent the growth of bacteria. It’s a soft, double-jacquard fabric. It’s removable and can be washed at home with the rest of your laundry.  Under the cover is a rayon barrier that acts as a fire hazard, so the rest of the mattress doesn’t have to use fire-retardant chemicals to protect you. Three layers of foam below the cover work together to provide a soft sleeping experience.

The first is a 1” layer of gel memory foam, which helps to disperse heat under you as you sleep. This layer also limits motion transfer, so you can sleep comfortably even when your partner is tossing and turning. This layer is the first defence against higher temperatures building up throughout the night. The transition layer is convoluted foam, which is shaped like an egg crate. The valleys here allow for better airflow, while the foam itself relieves your deepest pressure points and balances your body.

The support core of this mattress is made with aerated bamboo charcoal-infused foam. It helps reduce temperature but offers strong support and balance. With this layer, your mattress will stay fresh for longer. Overall, this mattress is the softest option on our list, so it is ideal for those who prefer a softer sleeping experience. Side sleepers and some stomach sleepers will find that this firmness works well for them.

Bloom River Mattress

Bloom River Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Bloom River Mattress is the budget model in Sleep Country’s Bloom mattress line-up. This mattress will cost you less than other options featured here, but that doesn’t mean the quality of the mattress suffers. This mattress is extremely low profile, with a height of about 7 inches. This means it will work well for lightweight sleepers, but might not be ideal for heavier sleepers because of the way they sink into the mattress. Still, the three layers of foam provide great value for the price of this mattress.

The cover is made with an antimicrobial fabric, which prevents the growth of bacteria. As a result, your mattress stays fresh longer. The cover is removable and machine washable, too. The first layer of foam is gel memory foam. This thin layer helps remove heat from the mattress as you sleep, all while reducing pressure on your body and promoting motion isolation from the other side of the mattress. Bloom River is a medium-firm mattress that offers better support and alignment than some of Bloom’s softer models, so it’s a good option for those who sleep on their sides or backs.

The middle of the mattress is a layer of convoluted foam, shaped like an egg crate for better airflow and support. Each air pocket can collapse when you need it too, so your body stays supported in the way you need. Finally, a layer of bamboo charcoal-infused foam makes up the support base, which is a bit firmer than the support bases on the other Bloom mattresses featured here.

Together, these layers provide better pressure relief and temperature control than some of the other options here, but it still offers a smaller profile that may not be suitable for some sleepers.

Bloom Mist Mattress

Bloom Mist Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Bloom Mist Mattress is one of the coolest options in Bloom’s lineup. This mattress uses two layers of gel memory foam to provide a comforting, cooling ‘hug’ that helps relieve pressure and promote better balance overall. This is a medium mattress, which makes it ideal for side sleepers. Most sleepers can get comfortable on this mattress, but it may not provide the stronger core support that back and stomach sleepers need to feel comfortable.

It makes up for it with better pressure relief, especially due to the dual layers of cooling foam. This construction allows heat to filter down to the core of the mattress, which is aerated bamboo charcoal. There are airflow channels cut into the core where it meets the transition layer, allowing for better cooling throughout the mattress. This core is solid and supportive but also works to keep your mattress fresh and structurally sound.

The cover of the Bloom Mist is where it really changes things up. The cover is made with organic cotton that is infused with copper. Copper works well to reduce microbes and prevent the growth of bacteria, which reduces odours throughout your mattress. Copper can also help keep you cool, moving heat to cooler parts of the mattress so it doesn’t build up underneath you.

This cover is removable and machine washable. Below, you’ll find a rayon barrier that helps reduce fire hazards, removing the need for harmful fire-retardant chemicals. All layers of foam are CertiPUR-US certified with low VOCs and no harmful chemicals. The mattress is cool and comfortable without getting too hot. The low-profile design is higher than some of the other mattresses on our list, but it’s still relatively small. If you prefer a low-profile mattress that offers better cooling, Bloom Mist might be perfect for you.

Mattress Construction

The Bloom Earth, Bloom River, and Bloom Mist all use similar construction to provide a cloud-like sleeping surface. While Bloom Earth and Bloom River are very similar, the Bloom Mist mattress uses a different support base and transition layer to provide an entirely different feel.

Bloom Earth Mattress

Bloom Earth Mattress Construction
  • 1″ Gel Memory Foam. The top layer of the mattress is made of gel memory foam. This 1″ layer helps relieve pressure and keep you cool, moving heat away from you throughout the night.
  • 2.75″ Convoluted Foam. The middle layer is an egg-crate type convoluted foam for deeper cushioning and pressure relief. The design of this layer helps channel air through the core of the mattress, venting hot air to reduce heat overall.
  • 4.25″ Support Base. The base of Bloom Earth is made with bamboo charcoal-infused foam. The core is aerated to help keep your mattress fresh throughout its lifespan, so your bed stays fresh. This layer is also responsible for balancing your body, and reducing strain to keep you comfortable.
  • Cover. The cover of this mattress is made with antimicrobial fabric, which completely prevents bacteria from taking root. This means fewer odours and a fresher surface.

Bloom River Mattress

Bloom River Mattress Construction
  • 0.75″ Gel Memory Foam. The top layer of the Bloom River mattress uses a thin layer of memory foam. This layer reduces pressure points as soon as you lie down. The gel-infused memory foam also reduces temperature overall.
  • 2.5″ Convoluted Foam. This transition layer is made with the same egg-crate-shaped foam, which provides better airflow and collapse points to support your body wherever you need it. It also helps reduce some of your deepest pressure points, keeping you comfortable even if you sleep in the same position throughout the night.
  • 3.75″ Support Foam. The base layer of this mattress is made with bamboo charcoal, aerated for better airflow. This helps reduce bacteria and other impurities, so you can relax comfortably.
  • Cover. The antimicrobial cover on the Bloom River is removable and machine washable. You can unzip this cover on the bottom of the mattress, allowing you to remove it when it’s time to clean your bed.

Bloom Mist Mattress

Bloom Mist Mattress Construction
  • 1″ Gel Memory Foam. Bloom Mist’s top layer is made with gel memory foam, designed to reduce temperature and reduce pressure immediately when you lie down. Heat moves away from you as you sleep so you don’t wake up uncomfortable.
  • 1″ Gel Memory Foam. The transition layer of this mattress is another layer of 1″ gel memory foam. This layer reduces temperature further, cushioning your deepest pressure points and elevating you out of the firm support base. This layer is also great for reducing motion transfer.
  • 7″ Support Base. The aerated support base is made with bamboo charcoal-infused foam, but it’s constructed a little differently than the other options in our Bloom Mattress review. The foam uses air channels cut width-wise along the mattress, helping to promote further air circulation.
  • Cover. The cover of this mattress is made of organic cotton. It’s washable and removable, so you can wash it when it’s time. It’s extremely soft and smooth, with antimicrobial properties that help your bed stay clean longer. Some of the antimicrobial features of the cover come from the copper-infused threads, which also help reduce temperature.

Firmness

Though the Bloom mattresses featured here are all-foam options, they offer different firmnesses depending on the mattress. No matter how you sleep or what feel you prefer, there is an option for you.

Bloom Earth Mattress

The Bloom Earth mattress is the softest option in our Bloom mattress review. This mattress is medium-soft, though it’s almost firm enough to be a medium option. This means that it’s ideal for those who want a soft mattress with better pressure relief. If you don’t mind the memory foam hug, you’ll love the way this mattress cushions your pressure points to keep you comfortable.

Side sleepers and some stomach sleepers will enjoy the way this mattress feels. The plush surface is comforting enough, but the support layer keeps you well-supported.

Bloom River Mattress

7 on Firmness Scale

Bloom River is the firmest option on our list. Though it is a low-profile foam mattress, it offers better support throughout. The support core is firm enough for extra alignment, while the top layers provide pressure relief without being too soft. If you prefer your mattresses a bit on the firmer side, this is the perfect mattress for you.

The Bloom River is ideal for side sleepers and back sleepers. The firmer profile allows for better support for these sleepers, particularly side sleepers who enjoy pressure relief along with stronger support.

Bloom Mist Mattress

The Bloom Mist mattress is medium in feel. This mattress is close to true medium, which provides better pressure relief without the extreme softness found in mattresses with a lower rating. At about 5.5, this mattress offers stunning pressure relief and the expert contouring of memory foam.

This mattress is best for side sleepers. It’s just firm enough to provide adequate support but soft enough to feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.

Motion Isolation

If your partner often wakes you up by tossing and turning, you may need a mattress with better motion isolation. Innerspring mattresses tend to transfer motion across the mattress, so you feel every movement from the other side of the bed. Fortunately, foam mattresses like the Bloom options featured here offer great motion isolation. The foam tends to absorb motion, so all-foam mattresses are the best option for motion isolation.

The Bloom Earth Mattress, Bloom River Mattress, and Bloom Mist Mattress offer the same level of motion isolation you can expect from most foam mattresses. You are unlikely to feel any small motions from the other side of the bed. Larger motions like your partner getting in and out of bed will still travel, but you won’t feel jostled or disturbed.

Of these mattresses, Bloom Earth offers slightly more isolation than the other mattresses. It’s a small advantage, mostly due to the thicker transition layer of convoluted foam. This layer helps absorb motion, keeping it from moving to the other side of the bed. While the other mattresses do the same, their transition layers are a bit smaller. Thankfully, the motion isolation is about the same in each mattress. If you are struggling to choose between them, know that you’ll receive the same level of peace and comfort from each, even when your partner is tossing and turning.

Pressure Relief

Bloom Mattress Review Pressure Relief

If you experience discomfort where your body sinks into your mattress, you may be dealing with pressure points. The uncomfortable pressure caused by your body digging into the mattress can lead to back pain and poor sleep quality. That’s why you need a mattress with great pressure relief. Mattresses with pressure-relief features help reduce these harmful pressure points, balancing your body evenly across the surface of the mattress. In general, all-f0am mattresses offer better pressure relief than other types of mattresses. However, softer options are not always better.

The Bloom Earth, which is the softest option in our Bloom mattress review, might offer great pressure relief if you sleep on your side or weigh less than 130 lbs. However, the Bloom River, the firmest option in our review, may be better suited for those who need lumbar support to reduce discomfort. The Bloom Mist has a nice balance of pressure relief and support. As a medium mattress, it can work for Canadians in most sleeping positions.

We can’t tell you which mattress will have the best pressure relief for you, as it varies from person to person. However, Bloom Earth is the softest mattress on our list. Bloom Mist is the closest thing to a pure medium mattress, which makes it suitable for most sleepers. Finally, Bloom River is the firmest option here, which works well for those who need an extra boost for support while relieving pressure points.

Temperature Control

Do you often wake up sweaty and overheated during the night? Tired of your sleep being interrupted because your mattress is just too hot? A mattress with better temperature control might be able to solve your problems. If you sleep hot, you know the value of a mattress that dissipates heat, reduces the overall temperature of the bed and keeps you cool throughout the night.

Unfortunately, all-foam mattresses are known to sleep hot. Memory foam tends to retain heat, causing it to gather as you sleep. There are multiple measures in place throughout the Bloom mattresses featured here to reduce temperature, though some are more effective than others.

The Bloom Mist is the coolest option in our Bloom mattress review. It offers two layers of gel memory foam to help reduce temperature, moving heat away from you and preventing it from building up. The cover of this mattress is infused with copper, which helps keep your bed fresh but also moves heat away from you. Finally, there are air channels in the bamboo charcoal support base, which helps keep the core of the mattress cool.

The Bloom River has average temperature control, with a thinner layer of gel memory foam and airflow provided through the construction of the convoluted foam transition layer. This mattress isn’t suitable for those who sleep hot, as it doesn’t do much to reduce temperature.

On the other hand, Bloom Earth may provide a nice balance. it offers a thicker layer of gel memory foam, with extra airflow through the convoluted foam transition layer and cooling from the bamboo charcoal core. However, it’s also the softest mattress in our review. Better contouring and pressure relief mean this mattress sleeps hotter than the others, and the extra control measures attempt to reduce the build-up of heat.

If you sleep hot, Bloom Mist is probably your best option. Bloom River is average, and Bloom Earth may sleep a little hotter than most Canadians prefer.

Edge Support

Bloom Mattress Review Edge Support

All-foam mattresses like the Bloom mattresses on our list aren’t known for great edge support. Memory foam mattresses usually lack any type of additional edge support, and that’s true of Bloom mattresses. A mattress without edge support can make you feel like you’re slipping or sliding off the edge of the bed when you sit there. if you usually sleep near the edge or sit on the edge of the bed, edge support may be important to you.

As all-foam options, all of the Bloom mattresses here offer sub-par edge support. The Bloom Mist offers a measure of natural edge support, due to its slightly different construction when compared to the other models here. While you can expect slightly better edge support with the Bloom Mist, all of the mattresses in our Bloom Mattress review offer fairly average support for all foam mattresses.

Ease of Movement

Memory foam mattresses, particularly all-foam mattresses, offer a notorious memory foam “hug”. Because the mattress contours to your body for better pressure relief, you can sometimes feel stuck in the mattress shortly after laying down. This makes it difficult to move around on the mattress, particularly if you move around a lot during the night.

To move around easier, you need a mattress that offers some bounce and responsiveness. The Bloom mattresses featured in our Bloom mattress review are all-foam options that offer great contouring and pressure relief. All of them are fairly difficult to move around on.

The Bloom Earth is the most responsive mattress here, but it’s a very small advantage. It’s likely due to the composition of the top layer of the mattress, which is gel memory foam. Though this mattress is the softest on our list, it offers a small bit of help over the other options.

Bloom River is a medium firm option that provides a little more mobility from its top layer. Despite this, it’s still fairly difficult to move around on. Combination sleepers should avoid this mattress. The Bloom Mist mattress isn’t much better, with the lowest ease of movement of the mattresses featured here. If you need better ease of movement, Bloom Earth provides a small amount of comfort.

Pricing

The Bloom mattresses featured here come in a range of prices, ranging from budget options such as the Bloom River to the luxury model like the Bloom Mist. Each is available in five standard mattress sizes, but does not come in a California King size. There is Bloom mattress for every budget and sleeper, even among the offerings not mentioned here. Shipping

The Bloom mattress is shipped via Sleep Country, the retailer that sells the mattresses. Mattresses are delivered on a truck by a trusted courier. You can choose free standard delivery, but you can also choose Green Glove Delivery. This service is an in-home delivery service, which includes complete assembly and set-up of any mattress, foundation, or other furniture pieces. They will also remove your old mattress, base, box spring, and excess packaging. Green Glove Delivery is an extra upgrade you can choose at checkout, and fees may vary for the service.

Sleep Country delivers free to most areas in Canada, except for the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland, and Labrador. In these areas, you must pay a $120 surcharge for delivery. In these locations, you can expect to wait 7 to 10 business days for your order to arrive once it has shipped. Additional fees may apply for some remote locations. Make sure to check with customer service if you are concerned about the delivery fees to your location.

Sleep Trial and Returns

Sleep Country, the company behind Bloom Mattresses, has a nontraditional sleep trial and return process. No matter which of the mattresses you choose from their lineup, you’ll have 100 nights to see if it works for you. You can try it for this long to see if it works well for you.

While other mattress companies offer a full refund if the mattress doesn’t work for you, Sleep Country only allows you to exchange the mattress for one of 50 other options in their retail locations. If you need to exchange your mattress, you can walk into any Sleep Country retail store. If you’re unsure where the nearest Sleep Country retail store is located, you can check using the ‘Find a Store’ feature on the Sleep Country website.

At the store, they will set up a delivery and removal of your old mattress. You can upgrade to the Green Glove Delivery service, which we detailed above. There is a $65 base exchange fee for delivery of the new mattress. If there is a price difference between the Bloom mattress you chose and the new one, you will be required to pay the difference. Likewise, if you choose a less expensive mattress for your exchange, you will receive a refund for the balance to your original payment method.

Just like with shipping, Sleep Country doesn’t serve the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland, or Labrador. If you live in these areas and need to exchange your mattress, you can contact customer service to help you discover your options.

Warranty

Bloom mattresses offer warranties of different lengths.

  • Bloom River Mattress: 5-year Warranty
  • Bloom Earth Mattress: 10-Year Warranty
  • Bloom Mist Mattress: 10-Year Warranty

Despite the difference in the length of the warranty, the terms are the same. The warranty is void if you don’t use a compatible foundation with the mattress. They also require you to use a stable foundation, so they recommend purchasing a foundation at the same time as the mattress.

Bloom’s mattress warranty covers physical defects, including tears in the fabric of the cover or the foam underneath. It covers body indentation of more than 1.5″, as well as any undue sagging not associated with the misuse of the mattress.

The warranty does not cover mattress fabric, body indentation of less than 1.5″, damage due to misuse, and structural damage caused by using an improper foundation.

If you suspect you have a warranty claim, you can do a self-assessment. Instructions for this assessment (as well as how to proceed once it is completed) are available on the Sleep Country website.

Final Thoughts

Bloom’s mattress line-up covers all of the bases you need to sleep comfortably. There’s a mattress for everyone, no matter how you sleep or which firmness level you prefer. Each has a slightly different construction, which means it provides slightly different benefits when compared to the other mattresses in the line-up. Consider all of these factors before deciding which Bloom mattress is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sleep Country is a Canadian company with over 250 retail stores across Canada. However, Bloom mattresses are made in China. When you order a Bloom mattress in Canada, it will ship from Canada and arrive quickly.

The Bloom Mist is our choice for the best cooling mattress. Dual layers of gel memory foam and airflow channels in the base provide better cooling than the other options featured here. Those who sleep hot may prefer the Bloom Mist.

All Bloom mattresses feature removable, machine-washable covers. However, the Bloom Mist is the only option that offers copper-infused organic cotton for its cover instead of the standard knit textile used in the other Bloom mattress options. Regardless of which model you choose, you can keep your bed clean by washing the cover.

All of the foams used to create Bloom mattresses are certified by CertiPUR-US. This means they have low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and don’t have any harmful chemicals. These mattresses are safe and clean for use in all Canadian households.
