Puffy is an American brand that produces mattresses and other sleep accessories in Canada. Every mattress that Puffy sells in Canada is made right here, including the Puffy Lux. This model is exclusive to Canada, as it is no longer made in the US.

This mattress features layers of temperature-neutral foams, which help with better support and pressure relief. In our Puffy Lux mattress review, we’ll take a look at all of the best features of this mattress. Let’s see why Canadians should choose the Puffy Lux.

Should You Buy the Puffy Lux Mattress?

The Puffy Lux is temperature-neutral, meaning it isn’t too hot or too cold. The plush design is great for side sleepers and those who prefer a softer mattress, but it still offers balance and support from the special body-adapting layer. These features set the Puffy Lux apart, making it one of the best mattresses in Canada for pressure relief. You can try it for a full 101 nights after your purchase if you aren’t sure that it’s right for you.

Here are some of the features we’ll be exploring in detail during our Puffy Lux mattress review.

  • The Cooling Cloud layer is breathable and reduces overheating while maintaining a neutral temperature.
  • The hypoallergenic, stain-resistant cover is soft and comfortable.
  • The cover is removable and machine washable.
  • Body-Adapting Dual Cloud Foam supports your body, minimizing strain and eliminating pressure points.
  • A lifetime warranty keeps you covered longer than any other warranty on the Canadian market.
  • Compatible with any foundation, including adjustable beds.

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Puffy Lux is the middle mattress in Puffy’s lineup, which makes it the perfect option for those looking for a little bit of luxury without breaking the bank. This all-foam mattress features a layer of temperature-neutral foams that keep you comfortable and help relieve pressure. When it comes to balance and alignment, this is one of the best all-foam mattresses on the Canadian market.

Puffy uses a special technique to create its foam. This technique, called VPF (or Variable Pressure Foaming) reduces the need for toxic chemicals in the creation of memory foam. This means that every layer used in this mattress is good for you and safe for the environment. If you are often worried about these things, this mattress can help you relax a bit.

It uses a hypoallergenic and stain-resistant cover, which can easily be zipped off and washed with the rest of your bedding. You can easily refresh your whole bed each time you wash your sheets. Below this cover, five layers of foam help reduce temperature, promote better alignment, and provide industry-leading pressure relief.

This mattress is a medium on the firmness scale. The plush surface and optimal pressure relief are best suited for side sleepers and those who prefer softer mattresses. Those who need a firmer experience won’t be as comfortable on this mattress. The 101-night sleep trial allows you to try it for yourself, and a lifetime warranty awaits if you decide to keep it afterwards.

Mattress Construction

Puffy Lux Review Mattress Construction

As with all Puffy mattresses, the Puffy Lux uses a variety of materials to provide one of the best all-foam sleeping experiences possible. All of the foam layers used in this mattress are certified by CertiPUR-US, a third-party company that helps regulate harmful chemicals. This means these foams are safe and don’t contain VOCs.

  • Stain-Resistant Cloud Cover. Puffy Lux uses a stain-resistant cover made from soft, smooth material. This cover is hypoallergenic and removable, so you can easily zip it off and throw it into the washing machine at home. Thai cover is durable to withstand frequent use, so your mattress is protected.
  • Cooling Cloud Foam. The top layer of the Puffy Lux mattress is a gel-infused memory foam that doesn’t include latex. It uses a process that Puffy calls Variable Pressure Foaming, which means it’s better for the environment and certified by CertiPUR-US. These measures ensure that the mattress is cool and comfortable. It also helps eco-conscious Canadians rest a little easier.
  • Body-Adaptive Dual Cloud Foam. This layer is unique to the Puffy Lux mattress. The cradling comfort from this layer sets it apart from the other mattresses in Puffy’s lineup. This layer is the best at relieving pressure, providing a more comfortable experience where your hips and shoulders sink into the mattress. This layer helps prevent discomfort, even if you sleep in the same position every night. This foam is designed to provide better lumbar support, with variable support that contours to your body.
  • Climate Comfort Foam. A layer of comfortable, breathable transition foam helps keep you elevated out of the firm support core of the mattress. This layer is resistant to temperature fluctuations. This means that it won’t feel different depending on the ambient temperature. Some memory foam mattresses get softer when it’s warm and firmer when it’s cold, but this mattress will retain its feel no matter the temperature. It helps relieve pressure and isolate motion, too.
  • Firm Support Core. A core of supportive PU foam creates the base of this mattress. It’s made with Puffy’s patented VPF process, so it doesn’t use harmful chemicals or negatively impact the environment. The foams are certified through CertiPUR-US, too.
  • Grip Base Cover. The bottom half of the cover is made with a gripping material that ensures your mattress won’t slide around. No matter how much you move around or toss and turn, this mattress will stay right where you put it. This base cover is what makes the mattress ideal for most bed frames and foundations.

Firmness

5 on Firmness Scale

The Puffy Lux mattress falls at about a 5 on our firmness scale. This means it’s a true medium. Because most of the mattresses on the Canadian market (and beyond) are medium-firm, this mattress may feel significantly softer than your current mattress, or other mattresses that you’ve tried. If you prefer a plush sleeping surface, this mattress may be perfect for you.

This true medium firmness is best for side sleepers. This is also true because of the way that Puffy Lux helps reduce pressure, leaving side sleepers more comfortable than they might be on a firmer mattress. This mattress can be great for some stomach sleepers, too. However, we can only recommend it to stomach sleepers with lighter body types. The lack of any strong support can make it uncomfortable for those who need an extra boost.

Back sleepers and heavier sleepers should avoid the Puffy Lux, as it may be far too soft for these sleepers to be comfortable throughout the night.

Motion Isolation

Do you often wake up when your partner tosses and turns? Tired of feeling every movement from the other side of the bed? A mattress that offers motion isolation is one way you can sleep easier. Mattresses with motion isolation features can help neutralize motion from the other side of the bed, absorbing it so it doesn’t reach you. Memory foam mattresses are best at motion isolation, though hybrid models aren’t far behind.

The Puffy Lux Mattress uses multiple levels of memory foam to create its plush, comfortable surface. These layers are great at reducing motion as it happens, meaning you won’t feel anything from the other side of the mattress. You can stay asleep while your partner is restless. This level of motion isolation can even keep you asleep when your partner gets out of bed!

Pressure Relief

Puffy Lux Review Pressure Relief

If there is one area where the Puffy Lux mattress excels, it’s pressure relief. This mattress offers some of the best pressure relief in Canada, even among other Canadian all-foam mattresses. That’s because the layers of foam at the top of the mattress are engineered differently. They are designed to reduce the pressure you may feel when you sleep too long in the same position.

If you’re tired of waking up with uncomfortable pressure points, this mattress might be the perfect option for you. The soft, plush foams cradle your body to deliver the support you need right where it’s needed most. Puffy Lux’s layer of body-adaptive support foam helps reduce strain throughout your body, providing better balance and reducing discomfort at your back and hips. The core support layer also helps keep your spine aligned. Together, these layers reduce pressure throughout the mattress and leave you feeling more comfortable than ever.

Temperature Control

The Puffy Lux is an all-foam mattress that uses different blends of memory foam to create its soft feel. As you may know, memory foam tends to retain heat, leading to a much warmer sleep for those who already generate a lot of heat as they sleep. If you are tired of waking up too hot on your memory foam mattress, the Puffy Lux won’t necessarily fix the problem. It may allow you to sleep a little cooler through the use of breathable and gel-infused cooling foams, but you still won’t feel totally cool throughout the night.

If you only sleep a little too warm, this might be a good option for you. While the Puffy Lux doesn’t sleep cool, it also doesn’t sleep too hot. This mattress is mostly temperature-neutral. If you aren’t already sleeping hot on your mattress, you likely won’t be on this mattress either.

If you are looking to make your experience with Puffy Lux a little cooler, consider choosing cooling sheets and a cooling pillow to help you rest without waking up sweaty.

Edge Support

Do you sit or sleep near the edges of the mattress? Do you and your partner share a smaller bed (such as a Full or Queen)? If so, you might recognize the slipping, sliding, and sagging feeling at the edge of the mattress. Most foam mattresses lose vital support as they reach the edges. The foam in these mattresses may compress too much, leaving you clinging to the mattress or unable to put your slippers on in the morning.

In response, many mattresses now use edge support foams or options that are known to be firmer at the edges. The Puffy Lux doesn’t use any additional edge support measures to ensure that you don’t slip or slide off of it when you sit on the edge of the bed in the morning. However, there is still enough support to make you feel well-supported at the edges. You won’t get the same effect as you might from a firm edge support foam, but this mattress helps eliminate a lot of sliding or sagging due to the different layers of foam used in its construction.

Ease of Movement

Puffy Lux Review Ease of Movement

Most all-foam mattresses can be hard to move around on. Mattresses that use memory foam allow you to sink into the layers of the mattress for better support and pressure relief. However, this can sometimes lead to an uncomfortable ‘quicksand’ feeling. Soft foam mattresses like the Puffy Lux are usually the worst options for those who like to move around a lot or those who don’t like the confining memory foam ‘hug’.

However, the Puffy Lux defied our expectations for ease of movement. While it is made of memory foam materials, you can still move around fairly easily on the surface of the mattress. Side sleepers and combination sleepers that require a lot of movement throughout the night will appreciate how different this mattress feels.

Pricing

The Puffy Lux is a higher-end memory foam mattress. As a result, it’s a bit more expensive than the average memory foam mattress in Canada. This is partly because of the materials used, specifically how they are produced. Puffy’s proprietary production methods lead to a better foam, but can increase costs across the board. You’ll find the Puffy Lux mattress in all six standard mattress sizes. Here arehte prices and dimensions for each available size.

Sleep Trial and Returns

Puffy offers a 101-night sleep trial for its mattresses. You’ll have a full 101 nights to try this mattress to see if it works for you. Puffy asks that you try the mattress for at least 14 nights after you receive it. If you don’t like it after this time, you can initiate a return for a full refund.

Returns are quick and painless. Once you submit a return request as part of your 101-night sleep trial, Puffy will arrange a quick pick-up of your mattress. Used mattresses are donated to local or national charities when possible.

After your return has been picked up, Puffy will issue a full refund. It may take up to 14 days for the full refund of your purchase price to appear on your financial records. While some mattress companies require a lot of different steps to follow and hoops to jump through, Puffy has streamlined the sleep trial and return process.

Frequently Asked Questions

While Puffy is a US company, all Puffy mattresses sold in Canada are manufactured domestically. This means that your mattress is made in Canada, but may use materials from other sources (including the US). However, Puffy mattresses sold in Canada ship from Canadian warehouses for fast delivery with reduced shipping costs.

Puffy delivers all of their mattresses with FedEx, so they will arrive right at your door. As we examined above, most mattresses will arrive fairly quickly. Your Puffy mattress may take longer to arrive based on your location, especially if you live in a remote area.

The medium softness of the Puffy Lux makes it okay for some back sleepers. The body-adaptive foam layers help provide support right where you need it, so this could be the perfect mattress for someone who prefers a softer mattress but needs strong support. This mattress offers great pressure relief for those with other joint issues, too.

The smallest size (Twin) weighs 33 lbs. The largest sizes (King and California King) weigh about 75 lbs. You can expect your mattress to fall somewhere in this range. Larger sizes are, of course, heavier.

The Puffy Lux is compatible with any surface, including box spring foundations, flat frames, slats, or adjustable frames. Your mattress will be adequately supported on any of these frames, so you can use the one that works best for you (including the one you already own if it is the right size for your mattress). Make sure that you use a foundation with the mattress, though – you shouldn’t put your mattress on the floor, as it can lead to damage.
