Essentia Tatami Mattress

Tatami Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

The Essentia Tatami Mattress is an excellent option for Canadians looking for a firm mattress with great pressure relief benefits. This mattress has two thick foam and latex layers and is ideally suited for side or back sleepers. For those who sleep on their stomach, the firm surface may prove to be uncomfortable.

The Tatami Mattress features 100% organic, vegan and sustainable materials, perfect for Canadians concerned about environmental and animal welfare. The mattress is constructed entirely of nontoxic materials and is allergy free, which should appeal to most Canadians.

For those who sleep warm, the Tatami Mattress will find the sleeping surface cool and breathable, but it won’t reduce all heat. Users who co-sleep will find that motion isolation is reduced with its latex and foam blend, helping you stay asleep regardless of movement around you.

Canadians with allergies or worry about frequent spills will appreciate the easily zipped-off mattress cover and the ability to machine wash it with the rest of their bedding.

Tatami comes in two different mattress heights (8″ and 10″). You can also choose to include EMF Protection, which helps your body recover from the influx of electronic frequencies we encounter in our day-to-day life.

Essentia Stratami Mattress

Stratami Mattress

It's Great For:

Considerations:

For Canadians seeking a softer sleeping surface, the Essentia Stratami Mattress is a great pick. This mattress is made of two thick foam and latex layers and is of medium firmness. The softer pillowtop-like layer is great for those who sleep on their stomach or looking for a plush sleeping surface. Those who sleep on their side or back or need extra pressure relief may find this mattress lacking firmness for needed support.

Made of 100% organic, vegan and sustainable materials, the Stratami is ideal for any eco-conscious Canadian. All mattress parts are non-toxic and hypoallergenic, making this a perfect option for nearly everyone.

Canadians who sleep hot will find the Stratami Mattress excellent at keeping body temperatures low throughout the night. Its airy and breathable latex foam keeps the mattress surface cool, and the dome-shaped top layer helps with increased airflow. For those who co-sleep and have restless partners, the latex blend foam helps reduce motion transfer between partners for a better night’s sleep.

The cover of the Stratami Mattress is fully removable and washable, great for those with allergies needing a frequently cleaned mattress or for the occasional spill. You can choose the 8″ version or the 10″ version of the mattress, as well as additional EMF protection.

Firmness

Essentia Tatami Mattress

7 on Firmness Scale

The Essentia Tatami Mattress is a firm mattress, coming in at a 7 on the firmness scale. With its thick layers of organic latex and memory foam, this mattress is solid and supportive, perfect for those wanting a mattress you don’t feel trapped in.

The Tatami Mattress is best suited for those who sleep on their side or back or need pressure relief from achy joints. Stomach sleepers may find the mattress too firm for their liking and may prefer the Stratami mattress instead.

Essentia Stratami Mattress

6 on Firmness Scale

As the softer mattress in our review today, the Stratami Mattress ranks as a 6 on our firmness ranking. , While it shares similar layers to the Tatami Mattress, this model has a plusher top layer that acts like a cloud-like pillowtop. Comfortable and supportive, this layer is medium firm.

While this mattress is great for all sleeping positions, stomach sleepers will find it highly comfortable. For Canadians that regularly sleep on their side or back or need additional pressure relief, this mattress may be too soft to get adequate support.

Motion Isolation

For those who co-sleep or have restless pets or children in bed, choosing a mattress that can combat motion transfer may be an important feature to consider when deciding which mattress to purchase. Both of the Essentia mattresses reviewed today have moderate motion isolation features.

The Tatami and the Stratami mattresses have two thick layers of organic memory and latex foam that can reduce motion transfer but will not eliminate it. Neither mattress does a better job than the other one in this category, and most will find that its motion isolation will be good enough for the average Canadian.

Pressure Relief

Essentia Mattress Pressure Relief

For Canadians who wake up feeling achy or need additional pressure relief, seeking a mattress with pressure relief measures in place can be an important consideration. For those with joint pain or who sleep on their side or back, a mattress with better support may be needed for hips and shoulders.

Of the two Essentia mattresses we are comparing today, the Tatami mattress offers the best pressure relief for those needing extra support. With its firmer surface, those with aches and pains will find comfort without sinking into a plush surface that may not be as supportive as they need.

Canadians looking for a softer mattress and needing less pressure relief or supportive features will find the Stratami Mattress comfortable and great for their needs.

Temperature Control

For those that wake up feeling hot and sweaty, finding a mattress with great temperature control can be critical. Many memory foam mattresses can retain heat, but Essentia has multiple ways to ensure you can stay cool throughout the night.

Unlike traditional memory foam, the latex organic foam layer found in the Tatami and Stratami helps reduce temperature naturally. This latex layer is breathable and promotes airflow throughout the mattress, allowing heat to be expelled and cool air to flow in.

Between the two Essentia mattresses we are reviewing today, the Stratami does better with temperature control than the Tatami model due to its top-layer construction. The dome shape layer of the Stratami mimics a traditional pillowtop and allows increased cooling while providing a cushier sleeping surface.

Edge Support

Essentia Mattress Edge Support

Canadians who sleep or often sit near the edge of the bed may want to consider choosing a mattress with edge support measures in place. Typically, most foam mattresses do not have additional features that help with the overall sinking or sagging that can happen over time around the bed’s perimeter.

Both Essentia mattresses compared today feature a foam and latex blend top layer and a thick organic latex support layer. These two layers do a much better job with edge support than most foam mattresses, as latex is far more durable. You can’t go wrong in picking either the Tatami or the Stratami mattress if good edge support is important to you.

Ease of Movement

For Canadians that frequently switch positions throughout the night or get in and out of bed often, finding a mattress that has good ease of movement can be an important thing to consider.

The two mattresses in our Essentia review today have varying degrees of ease of movability. The Stratami Mattress is a softer mattress with a plush top, which could be more limiting to those needing excellent ease of movement. Choosing the Tatami would be the best option for those seeking a mattress with superior ease of movement. Its flatter, firmer surface will easily allow sleepers to transfer in and out of bed and move around throughout the night.

Pricing

Essentia is a luxury bed-in-a-box company, meaning that these mattresses are a little pricier than other mattresses on the Canadian market.
