It's Great For:
- Canadians who sit on the edge of the bed
- Those who need better lumbar support
- Users who prefer a soft, cool sleeping surface
- Side sleepers and some stomach sleepers
The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is one of the best bed-in-a-box mattresses on the Canadian market in 2024. This mattress uses cooling foams, supportive coils, and eco-conscious foams to deliver a comforting experience that is comfortable for most sleepers. The medium-firm feel of this mattress makes it popular for most sleeping styles, but the way the mattress is constructed is comfortable for side sleepers, some stomach sleepers, and some who sleep on their back.
It’s also easy to move around on, which makes it a great option for combination sleepers. Because combination sleepers move around a lot at night, they need a mattress that doesn’t restrict them. Most memory foam mattresses will contour to your body, creating an indent that can trap you in a single position. This mattress makes turning over easy no matter how many times you do it.
This mattress uses two layers of foam and a layer of strong pocket coils. The first layer, a 1” quilted cooling gel foam, is attached to the cover with quilted lines that promote airflow. The foam itself also helps wick away moisture, keeping you cool even if you sleep hot. The middle layer is transitional. It helps with your deepest pressure points and absorbs motion, so the mattress won’t move too much when your partner tosses and turns.
The coil base is made with up to 1200 pocket coils depending on the size you choose. Regardless of size, this is more than enough pocket coils to provide great personalized support. The coils compress individually, mapping to your body and offering support right where you need it. A perimeter of edge support foam strengthens the edges, allowing you to sit at the edge of the bed in the morning without sinking or sliding.
It’s all wrapped in an antimicrobial cover that prevents the growth of bacteria and helps reduce allergens. Your bed will stay fresh and odour-free for longer because of this comfortable cover. If you need a softer mattress, consider the Plush version of the Silk & Snow Hybrid. This updated version of the mattress offers plush comfort layers that make it better for pressure relief than the Medium-Firm version we looked at here.
Key Features
- Pressure Relief. The first few layers at the top of the mattress help eliminate pressure points. This reduces strain throughout the mattress, allowing you to stay more comfortable throughout the night.
- Broad Compatibility. This mattress is compatible with most types of bed frames, including platform beds and adjustable beds. As long as you use some type of foundation, this mattress will stay comfortable for years to come.
- Firm Edge Support. A perimeter of foam around the coil layer helps bolster the edges, providing firm support from one edge of the mattress to another.
- Plush Top Layer. The Silk & Snow Hybrid is topped with an antimicrobial cover and quilted cooling gel foam. This helps with pressure relief and airflow.
Our Expert’s Take
“We recommend the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress to all sleepers, regardless of how they sleep. Most Canadians can appreciate the increased pressure relief, firm support, and better edge support than other options on the Canadian market.”

The foundation of the Logan & Cove Frontier is made of 9” thick individually wrapped pocket coils, which are whisper quiet and provide excellent motion isolation. With its perimeter support, those who sleep on the edge can do so without experiencing sinking along the edge, which can happen over time with many other mattresses.
As our choice for the best Euro-top mattress in Canada, this hybrid model offers the best of foam mattresses combined with the durability and support of a coil mattress. With a 365-night sleep trial, the Logan & Cove Frontier Mattress is a great option for anyone seeking the best in comfort and stability.

The Douglas Mattress is the best mattress on our list for pressure relief. Instead of providing a standard memory foam mattress, Douglas has taken their product a step further in every way. Regular memory foam mattresses usually receive a lot of complaints, from issues with overheating to a lack of support. However, the Douglas mattress addresses all of these issues in a comfortable, Canadian-made package.
Inside a sustainably-sourced Infinitex CoolSense cover, you’ll find two layers of eco-conscious foams. The first layer is a cooling gel known as ecoLight, which is made with 40% less carbon input than standard memory foam. It feels just as soft and comfortable, though! The second layer is Elastex, which is made without the chemicals that make people allergic to latex. This non-allergenic alternative won’t irritate those with latex allergies.
The entire mattress is supported by thick support foam, which helps keep the edges supported and eliminates motion transfer. It does all of this while balancing your body weight!
Try the Douglas Mattress for a risk-free 365-night sleeping trial. Afterward, the mattress is protected from major defects for up to 20 years!
Key Features
- Eco-Conscious Foams. Two layers of eco-conscious foam make the Douglas better for the environment, including ecoLight foam (which uses less carbon input than standard memory foam) and Elatex (a latex alternative that doesn’t use synthetic chemicals).
- Responsive Surface. Unique foam blends used in the construction of this mattress (including a latex alternative) create a responsive surface. Those who move around a lot at night won’t feel stuck in the mattress.
- Temperature Control. Layers of cooling materials help mitigate higher temperatures throughout the night, so you can sleep a little cooler than you would otherwise.
- Washable Cover. The cover of the Douglas Mattress is easy to remove and completely machine washable. You can also dry the cover in your clothes dryer at home.
Our Expert’s Take
“The Douglas mattress is balanced in the best possible way for you, no matter how you sleep. It helps resolve many issues users have with memory foam mattresses, offering better pressure relief and comfort than other Canadian mattresses.”

It's Great For:
- Couples and co-sleepers
- Canadians who move around a lot at night
- Combination sleepers
- Side sleepers and sleepers who need better pressure relief
Couples need motion isolation to sleep peacefully, especially if one is a light sleeper and the other is restless. Proper motion control is essential to allowing couples to sleep through the night, and the Endy mattress is happy to provide excellent motion isolation.
The open-cell memory foam actively works to eliminate motion in real-time. Each cell absorbs motion and doesn’t allow it to travel any further, ensuring that your partner on the other side of the bed stays asleep for longer. This mattress passed each motion test with flying colours, and it was one of the only mattresses with motion isolation this strong.
In addition, this all-foam mattress is temperature neutral. While most memory foam mattresses may feel different depending on the season (usually firmer in the winter and softer in the summer), this mattress maintains the same feel all year-round. If you live in a region of Canada with a lot of variable weather, this could be a great mattress to help you sleep more comfortably.
You can try it yourself during the risk-free 100-night sleep trial. A 10-year warranty protects the mattress and takes effect immediately after your purchase.
Key Features
- Industry-Leading Motion Isolation. Endy’s mattresses are well-known for their motion isolation, so you won’t feel anything from the other side of the bed. Even if your partner tosses and turns, you will stay asleep.
- Great for Alignment. A strong support layer helps align and balance your body, reducing strain and improving support throughout the mattress.
- Responsive Feel. The Endy Mattress is extremely responsive, so you won’t feel like you are ‘stuck’ in the mattress. You’ll be able to move around easily.
- Open-Cell Construction. Each layer of foam within the Endy Mattress is made with open-cell construction, which means it helps actively isolate motion and reduce temperatures.
Our Expert’s Take
“The Endy Mattress is a great all-foam option for those who prefer to sleep soundly, especially those who have restless partners. The active motion isolation stops motion in its tracks, so you won’t wake up even if you are a lighter sleeper.”

When reviewing all of the top mattresses in Canada, the Octave Horizon stood out as one of the best mattresses when it comes to cooling features. This all-foam mattress has an extensive list of great features and deep benefits, but its top-of-the-line temperature control is what gets the mattress a spot on this list.
Canadians who tend to wake up hot and sweaty will love how this mattress keeps body temperatures low and moisture at bay. The washable cooling top cover wicks away warm air and moisture, and multiple foam layers within the mattress actively cool the body while dispersing any trapped heat and warm air.
Those who suffer from aching joints, whether due to back pain or sleeping positions, will benefit from the pressure relief the Horizon offers. The cooling gel foams soothe aches and pains, while the latex foam adapts and cushions joints no matter what position you sleep in.
While many all-foam mattresses retain extra heat, the Octave Horizon features a unique base layer made of high-density foam that is ultra-breathable. With built-in air channels, this layer ensures a moisture-free and cool mattress in every season of the year. Couples will find that this base layer does an excellent job of motion isolation, so you can achieve restful sleep even if you usually get woken up by restless partners or pets.
As our pick for the best cooling mattress in Canada, the Octave Horizon is a mattress you should definitely consider. With a reasonable price point and one of the most well-constructed all-foam mattresses you can find, this option will appeal to most users. This mattress comes in all standard sizes and includes a longer-than-average 365-night sleep trial, as well as a generous 15-year warranty. With so many perks, you can be comfortable in trying this mattress out virtually risk-free.
Key Features
- Cooling Cover. This breathable fabric infused with CryoFusion Nanofibres keeps even the hottest sleepers comfortable. For spills or dirt, this cover can be easily removed and machine-washed.
- Latex Foam. Made from airy and responsive foam, this layer adapts to changing positions, gives the mattress a slight bounce and soothes pressure points.
- Cooling Foam Layers. Two different layers of foam in the Octave Horizon provide superior cooling. This is ideal for Canadians who naturally sleep hot or live in warmer areas.
- High-Density Base. The foundation of the mattress is made from thick, high-density memory foam that has built-in air channels to reduce heat and warm air. Co-sleepers will deeply benefit from the motion isolation this base provides.
Our Expert’s Take
“Any Canadian who sleeps hot will love this mattress, which will eliminate night sweats and keep sleepers cool night after night. It offers great pressure relief and support due to the high-density base as well.”

It's Great For:
- Canadians who need better alignment and support
- Those who sleep on their sides
- Sleepers who often wake up uncomfortable
- Restless partners and co-sleepers
The Brunswick Spring mattress is a supportive hybrid that uses a blend of foam, fill, and coils to create a sleep surface that supports you and keeps you comfortable. This mattress features a soft, breathable cover, followed by layers of gel foam, memory foam, and more to help create a comfortable surface that doesn’t retain heat.
This mattress shines when it comes to the coil layer. These coils are zoned and pocketed, meaning they are great at reducing motion transfer. They are zoned, meaning firmer coils are positioned under your hips and back for additional support. But that’s not the only place where the Brunswick Spring Mattress is supportive.
A perimeter of thick, supportive foam encases the coils, creating a comfortable edge for sitting or sleeping. This mattress feels the same no matter where you lay or sleep, making it great for those who need a little extra help.
The comfortable quilted cover is extremely breathable, especially because of the loose pillow-top fill underneath. It wicks away moisture and uses a few layers of supporting gel foam to maintain comfort for all sleepers. The Brunswick Spring Mattress is available for a 120-night trial and is backed by a 15-year warranty.
Key Features
- Zoned Coils. The support layer of this mattress is made with zoned pocket coils. Fimer coils in the middle of the mattress support your hips and lower back, while softer coils at your shoulders prevent pressure points.
- Plush Euro-Top. The Euro-top section of the mattress is plush and comfortable, with layers of contouring foam and light hollow-fibre fill for cushion and breathability.
- Breathable Surface. The surface of the Brunswick Mattress is extremely breathable, especially considering the layers of fill and foam near the top. You’ll be able to sleep better without overheating.
- Edge Support. A perimeter of firmer foam surrounds the coil layer of the mattress. If you sit or sleep near the edge, it won’t collapse under your weight because of this additional support.
Our Expert’s Take
“This mattress is a great choice for a supportive hybrid, especially if you prefer a plush top layer that helps you get to sleep quickly.”
Best All Foam
Casper Original Mattress
- Type: All Foam
- Firmness: Medium (5)

- Read Our Full Review of the Casper Original Mattress
It's Great For:
- Those who sleep with a partner or their kids
- Back sleepers
- Canadians who sleep hot
- Those who prefer a plush, pressure-relieving surface
The Casper Original all-foam mattress blends temperature control and support into one premium, comfortable package. A layer of perforated foam helps circulate air, while a middle layer offers zoned support foam. Firmer foam under your hips and back help support those critical areas, which can be extremely useful for side sleepers especially.
At the same time, softer foam under your shoulders helps prevent pressure points. This helps you stay comfortable all over, regardless of how you sleep or what type of support you need.
These features work together to give you a unique sleeping experience. These extraordinary layers are perched on a layer of thick support foam, which helps to balance your body and gives you the support you need. Meanwhile, breathable AirScape foam prevents heat from building up, which ensures that you sleep better all the way around.
This mattress is available in a hybrid version if you need a little more support, too. A 10-year warranty and 100-night sleep trial await those who want to try Casper’s flagship mattress.
Key Features
- Perforated Foam. Perforated foam layers provide additional airflow and breathability. If you usually wake up with night sweats, these foams can help reduce temperatures so you sleep better.
- Great Spinal Alignment. Side sleepers need especially strong alignment, and the Casper Original mattress is great at providing all the support and balance you need.
- Pressure Relief. The AirScape foam layers within the mattress are great at reducing uncomfortable pressure points, so you can rest in the same position all night without discomfort.
- Zoned Support Foam. Support foam is not usually zoned, but the Casper Original Mattress is an exception. Firmer foam in the centre of the mattress helps reduce strain and provide better support.
Our Expert’s Take
“The Casper Original Mattress is perfect for temperature control and a firmer support profile without the use of pocket coils.”
Best Firm
The Noa Mattress
- Type: Hybrid
- Firmness: Medium Firm (7)
- Sleep Trial: 120 Nights
- Warranty: 15 Years
- Made In: Canada
- Read Our Full Review of the Noa Mattress
It's Great For:
- Canadians who overheat often during the night
- Combination sleepers who change positions often
- Heavier sleepers
- Those who need increased, balanced support
The Noa Mattress is one of the firmest hybrids we tested. It’s a good option for those who need more support, better lumbar support, or generally prefer sleeping on a firmer surface. This medium-firm mattress uses Tencel fibres in the cover to help keep you cool, followed by layers of latex and cooling gel memory foam. These layers work together to keep you cool and support your pressure points.
At the same time, a layer of thick and sturdy pocket springs helps support you, evenly distributing your weight across the mattress for the most support possible. Though this mattress is a little on the firmer side, the layers of foam create a surface that’s just plush enough to be comfortable.
Finally, a layer of edge support foam helps keep those who sleep near the edge a little more comfortable. Altogether, this mattress fits the bill for most that prefer a firmer mattress, but it isn’t too firm for those who are still on the fence.
The Noa mattress features a 120-night sleep trial with the option of return or refund during that time frame. If you keep the mattress, you can expect a 15-year warranty for defects, and some of the most comfortable well-supported nights of sleep ever!
Key Features
- Firm Feel. The Noa Mattress feels extremely firm. Those who prefer a firmer mattress or those who need additional support will find that this mattress provides what they need.
- Thick-Gauge Steel Pocket Coils. The coil layer features thick-gauge steel pocket coils, which are strong and durable for years to come.
- Cooling Pillow Top. The top of the mattress is a comfortable pillow-top, with a layer of comforting latex under a Tencel fibre cover. It’s plush and responsive, helping you get to sleep faster.
- Extreme Support. Even though this mattress has a soft pillow top, it features extreme support that can help you stay comfortable throughout the night.
Our Expert’s Take
“Those who prefer firmer mattresses will enjoy the way the Noa mattress feels, particularly when it comes to support and the plush, comfortable pillow top section.”

How We Selected the Mattresses for These Canadian Mattress Reviews
We’ve spent years in the sleep industry, tracking trends and testing new mattresses to bring you the best of the best. Between our detail-driven test lab and our amazing team of testers, we’ve assembled only the best feedback to help you choose a mattress that’s best for you. Using information from all of our different tests and feedback sessions, we evaluated each mattress based on performance areas like motion isolation, temperature control, pressure relief, and edge support.
Mattress Basics
Choosing your next mattress doesn’t have to be overwhelming. These mattress basics can help you consider which mattress may be right for you based on your sleeping position and personal preferences.
Type of Mattress
There are a few different types of mattresses. Mattresses are usually defined by the contents of their layers. Here are some of the options on our list:
- Memory Foam. Memory foam provides a comfortable, pressure-relieving surface that sinks to support your customized ‘body map’ It does this by reacting to the heat in your body. Memory foam can be supportive and soft, but it can also generate more heat than other types of mattresses.
- Latex. Latex also forms in your body, though not in the same way that memory foam does. Mostly, Latex provides a responsive surface for combination sleepers and outstanding pressure relief for those who sleep on their sides.
- All Foam. An all-foam mattress combines layers of memory and latex foam to create a sleeping surface. This combination does great in most of our performance areas, but each blend can feel slightly different. Pay close attention to how the materials are layered for each all-foam mattress.
- Hybrid. A hybrid mattress uses a coil support layer sandwiched between layers of foam. These mattresses are supportive (and mostly provide great lumbar support), and they can be used with adjustable frames as well.
Firmness
Firmness is one of the most important features to consider when choosing a mattress. While you should choose the firmness that best appeals to you, how do you know where to start? While factors like body type and sleeping position can play into the firmness you prefer, you have to understand the basic options available to you.
Each mattress is usually rated on a firmness scale. Most mattress companies use some version of the firmness scale to rate their mattresses. Here’s our firmness scale.
- 1 – 4: Soft
- 5: Medium
- 6-10: Firm
If a mattress falls between these values, they are considered a bit differently. A 4.5, for example, might be considered Medium Soft. A 6.5 might be a Medium Firm, too.
Body Type & Sleeping Position
Your body type and sleeping position can tell you a lot about the type of mattress you might prefer, even if you aren’t sure yourself. While these are only guidelines, those with a certain weight who sleep in a particular position often share preferences when it comes to firmness. Here are some of the suggestions you might use to choose your mattress.
Firmness | Body Type | Sleeping Position |
Soft | < 130lbs | Stomach |
Medium | 130lbs – 230lbs | Side |
Firm | 230lbs+ | Back, Combination |
Sleep Trials & Warranties
When you purchase a mattress online, you can’t try it before you buy it. Still, trying a mattress in a retail location might only give you a few seconds to see how the mattress feels. That’s where sleep trials come in.
Most companies offer a sleep trial, which allows you to test your mattress for several days (or even months) after it arrives at your door. Since it takes about 30 days for your body to adjust to a new mattress, most sleep trials are at least 60 days long. Go with a longer trial if possible – this allows you to try the mattress for longer to ensure that you like it. If you don’t, you’ll get back the money you spent. Returns are free, too.
Warranties, on the other hand, protect you in case there are manufacturing defects with your mattress. While you should always read the warranty to find out how you are protected, a longer warranty is usually better.
Size
Mattresses come in six regular sizes, but there are additional options available from some companies. If you don’t already know how large a mattress you need, consider the following table.
Size | Dimensions | Sleepers |
Twin | 38” x 75” (96.5cm x 188 cm) | 1 |
Twin XL | 38” x 80” (96.5cm x 203.5cm) | 1 |
Full | 54” x 75” (134.5cm x 190.5cm) | 1+ |
Queen | 60” x 80” (152cm x 203.5cm) | 2 |
King | 76” x 80” (193cm x 203.5cm) | 2+ |
California King | 72” x 84” (183cm x 213.5cm) | 2+ |
You should choose the size that best fits your needs and comfort levels. There may be additional sizes available, but these standard 6 sizes are available for most mattress options.
Mattress Performance Features
Now that you know all about the basics, it’s time to look at some of the performance features you should consider as you shop. These features can help elevate your experience with your mattress, reduce discomfort, and lead to a more comfortable sleep overall.
Temperature Control
If you sleep hot, you aren’t alone. Many Canadians wake up feeling uncomfortably warm during the night. If this is something you struggle with, you might have heard that memory foam mattresses tend to hold in heat. Mattresses with temperature control features work to reduce the build-up of heat throughout the night. Look for mattresses with gel cooling foam, perforated foam, and active cooling measures to help reduce how much you’ll sweat at night.
While most mattresses offer some temperature control, adding cooling sheets and cooling pillows to your sleeping space can make it even cooler. If you sleep extremely hot, consider both.
Motion Isolation
If you sleep with a partner, you understand how important motion isolation is. Some mattresses allow you to feel every movement your partner makes. Innerspring mattresses are notoriously bad at this, as motion can travel easily across the springs and wake you when your partner turns or gets out of bed.
A mattress with great motion isolation stops this process as it happens, ensuring that you stay asleep even when your partner turns over. Foam mattresses are great at motion isolation, and hybrid mattresses can isolate a lot of motion as well. Look for a foam mattress with open-cell foam for additional motion isolation.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief is what makes foam mattresses comfortable. Most of the mattresses on our list will contour to your body, providing customized pressure relief based on where you need it most. If you sleep on your side, balanced pressure relief is important. A great pressure-relieving mattress will prevent pressure points from forming,
Foam mattresses provide great pressure relief, but some mattresses are better at it than others. Look at what each mattress claims about how they handle pressure relief to make an informed choice.
Edge Support
Some foam mattresses lack support around the edges. Sitting on the edge of the bed to put your slippers on can make you feel like you’re sliding off, and sleeping near the edge can be uncomfortable. If you regularly sleep or sit near the edge of the bed, edge support is an important performance feature to look for. Stronger edge support helps you feel more balanced and supported on the edge of your mattress, eliminating the feeling of sliding or falling off.
Mattress Feel
Each mattress feels just a little bit different, but we’re specifically talking about the feeling associated with these types of foam mattresses. Regardless of how firm a mattress is, some memory foam options tend to sink in and feel like you’re sleeping in quicksand. Latex options contour to your body in the same way as memory foam, but they allow you to move around easier.
Consider what type of feel you’d prefer – a responsive latex that’s easy to move around on, or a sinking memory foam that cradles your pressure points. While firmness is a great metric to go by when you’re purchasing a mattress, you should consider how the blend of materials used to create the mattress might feel.
Frequently Asked Questions
It can take up to 30 nights to get used to a new mattress, which is why most of the options on our list feature a longer sleep trial. Make sure to give yourself at least 30 nights to adjust to any new sleep surface. In some cases, it may take up to 90 days to get used to the mattress, so a mattress with a longer sleep trial is ideal.
Each mattress is compatible with different foundations based on manufacturer guidelines. Make sure to check the mattress specifications to discover which types of foundations are compatible. Never use a foundation that is not compatible with your mattress.
Bed in a box mattresses are compressed into smaller boxes than you might think. While heavy, these boxes are easy to move. Once you remove the mattress from the box and cut into the plastic wrap, the mattress will begin to decompress back to its original shape.
The type of mattress you need is based on many factors, including your sleeping position, body type, and other preferences. To determine which option is best for you, you should consider how you sleep, if you need additional support, what you prefer for pressure relief, and more. If you know what type of mattress you like, you can use that as a starting point to choose a mattress you know will work for you.
